Should I Replace The Charger Or The Battery My Macbook Pro Stopped Working Suddenly Overnight

My macbook pro charger has suddenly stopped working?

This morning I was using my 13" pro (purchased March 2011) when it the screen suddenly went black and it shut down despite being connected to power and being fully charged. The laptop was restarted but internet password and time and date needed to be reset.

My charger does not work at all now, despite using different power-points etc.

Does anyone know if this can be fixed or whether the Mac store will charge me full price for a replacement?

Macbook Pro battery & Charger not working?

The battery on my Macbook pro has not been working for the past few months (the computer will only stay on if it is plugged in), and today my charger stopped working. Its a 60w magsafe power adapter. I heard something about electrical tape being a quick fix but I could use some advise!

PS: My computer still works if I use another charger (same kind)

My Macbook charger stopped working. How do I fix this?

Laptop chargers break whether it is PC or Mac. I just don't get why they haven't invented something better.

In any case, the problem you are experiencing is that the wiring inside your Macbook charger is damaged; therefore, it will only work in certain "positions" that completes the wiring and appears to be randomly working.

The only way you can solve the problem is to buy a new charger, I am afraid. However, I would recommend that you buy it from Topmic.com because they offer life time warranty and free shipping to all laptop chargers for about $30 cheaper than Apple.

Best of luck.

Why has my MacBook charger stopped working?

(This answer assumes you have a MacBook Pro/Air with a MagSafe charger.)Image source: Warranty not valid for cracked MagSafe cable? These chargers seem to be pretty well-built and robust except for one glaring flaw: the shield on the dc side of the “brick” (ac/dc converter or rectifier) frays very easily, both near the connector and near the brick. If the insulation on the outside of the cable is broken at any point, this is likely the problem. One way to check is just by wiggling the cable near where it’s frayed (while it’s plugged in to an outlet and your laptop), and seeing if it charges intermittently. It is possible to replace the dc cable without replacing any other part of the charger. I’ve replaced this part on many chargers, and the repairs have lasted. However, I don’t recommend it for the following reasons:You have to open up the white case of the brick, which is a huge pain in the buttYou need to have (or have access to) a soldering ironYou could screw something up and potentially create a fire hazardYou have to glue/epoxy the white case of the brick back together, which is only marginally less frustrating than opening it in the first placeThe replacement part costs $6–8 (+ $N in shipping), which in my opinion is not cheap to make the annoyance/risk worth itWhat I recommend: Just buy a new one (or I guess a used one if it’s in good shape). I have personally had good luck with knock-off MagSafe chargers from Amazon (~$30, although the one I have is apparently out of stock at the moment), but there is always some risk involved in such purchases.Note: If you have a MacBook Air (45W), definitely do not try to replace the dc cable. These chargers have a smaller “brick” than the MacBook Pro chargers, and it’s almost impossible to get to the dc cable connections. Just buy a new one.

Mac charger isn't working? or my battery?

if it's only 2 months, just send it back for a replacement. Mac has a good reputation for excellent customer service!

Macbook battery quit working, would not hold charge, bought new, recently stopped working. WHY?

Why is the battery replaced on my MacBook Pro having problems after only 6 months?

Bad luck my friend, the store most likely replaced cheap sub quality battery in your laptop. There are a lot of cheap and low quality alternative available for branded electronics out there in the market. And the store seems to have used one such battery for your laptop.I believe you choose that particular store as compared to Apple Store because they were charging less or may be they didn’t had the produce you were looking for(just assuming, I might be wrong). If it is so, well then nothing can be done if the part is not of good quality.Well I believe nothing can be done with that and you have to pay to get it replaced. Just a suggestion, go for the genuine apple replacement if available. This is a lesson, we all learn someday or the other in our life. Always keep in mind, for your quality products, specially electronics never ever replace with the cheap, low quality party, always go to genuine stores and get replacement with the original parts. It will cost more for sure, but it will be worth the price.I could not find a comparison for batteries but here is a comparison of the apple original charger and a low quality replica charger. You can see the difference for yourself:Left is the original iPad charger circuit and the right is a fake replica charger available. Just see the difference in the circuit and imagine the difference in their working and safety even though from outside they look similar. Here you will find detailed teardown and comaprison: iPad charger teardown: inside Apple's charger and a risky phonySo, to summarize, most probabily the battery you got was a replica and low quality. This time around, go to genuine store and get the original replacement.

Why did my MacBook Battery stopped working?

My ipod battery stopped working and I had to send it off only after having it for a couple of years. This began happening on a lot of ipods that were made the same time mine was and they recalled the battery. So they said would fix it or send the people a new ipod. Look around for recalls that could be around. My ibook battery has not stopped working after a year. If you have a warranty from where you bought it then you can send it there and it can be fixed for free. I hope you can find out what is wrong!

My MacBook shuts down, and the charger stops working?

If its not the charger or the outlet then its your mac. First try removing your battery and reinstalling it one more time.

Check your battery health by downloading iStat Pro or coconutBattery app. You can also determine battery health by going to System Profiler > Power and checking your battery condition and battery cycle. A healthy battery should say normal, under 5000mAh (full charge cycle) and cycle count of less than 500.

If that isn't your issue then do a reset on your SMC/PMU. This will help reset your mac rerecognize all external devices plugged to your laptop, including your charger.

Good Luck!

What are some reasons a MacBook charger might not be working?

It may not be plugged in.The connector on the AC end may be broken. The connector on the MacBook end may be broken. The fuse in the charger may have blown. There may be a break in the wires. The transformer inside may be broken. The flyback controller inside may be broken. The temperature sensor inside may be broken, causing the monitoring chip to shut down the charger, thinking it's overheating.A trace in the charger may have blown.Insulation may have broken down somewhere inside the charger, causing a short. One of the capacitors inside may have blown.Etc.Modern laptop chargers are much more complicated than they seem. There are a million things that can go wrong with them.Unless you have electronics engineering training, don't try to fix it. I am usually all for DIY, but unless you have appropriate training, trying to fix your own mains-powered device is dangerous and can easily get you killed.Just find another one, and see if it works. If it does, you know the charger is broken. Throw it out and buy a new one.
