Should I Retake The Act

Should I retake the ACT?

I took the ACT in 11th grade and got a composite score of 24 without studying and without a calculator. I now just graduated and want to bump up my chances for getting admitted in the Spring of 2018. The next ACT test day in my area in September 9, 2017 and the application deadlines for the Spring is November 16, 2017. Would I be cutting it too close to send in my new test score? If I send my old test can I update the school once I get my new scores? If I got rejected could I appeal and send in the other scores?

Should I retake the ACT?

I just received my ACT scores and got a composite score of 31. I would really like to get as many scholarships as possible, and live without much college debt. I have a 4.0 GPA, and have taken some honors/AP classes and some University ones as well, but compared to some the classes I am taking are not terribly impressive. I am not involved in any sports or clubs, and so my academics are what will get me any money. Would it be beneficial for me to retake it, or should I accept the score that I got?

Should I Retake the ACT?

Worth it? Depends on what college and scholarships you plan to apply to and whether you really need a higher score.
Also, most colleges superscore-take the highest from all times you took it.
So you have 34 english, 36 math, 30 reading, and 35 science
If they superscore, it does not matter that much if you get the three high scores you got the second time.
Generally it is not good to take it more than 3 times. Often then, they average. Also ask if they superscore.
So again is good if you study for it.
Worth it? Got the money and the time? Trying for scholarships and admissions that this will help with?

Should I retake the ACT?

A 35 isn't a bad score at all! I got a 36 (full, not perfect sadly) and I got a 33 on the writing. Most colleges don't take the writing into consideration, so I think you will be alright; the ACT is mostly a benchmark for colleges to eliminate low scorers to save the admissions staff time. So, having a 35 is more than good enough, considering the fact that most high level colleges don't even take it into consideration. Good luck!

Should I retake the ACT? Got a 28?

That's a really good score regardless of the science subscore! I got a 26 and I was thrilled. Lol. It depends where you want to go to college though. For a state university, that's good enough. For Ivy League, you never to improve a lot (and even that doesn't guarantee admission). For a top 25 or 50 school, maybe go up about 4 points. Standardized tests are overrated. You may have to take them but they in no way measure your true intelligence. I'm graduating with a 3.8 GPA and like I said, I got a 26. I recommand trying the SAT, it has no science portion, and more than likely you will score very high because you scored high in english, reading and math on the ACT. Your writing score also counts for 30 percent of your grade on the SAT, on the ACT, it doesn't matter.

Should I retake the ACT with a score of 34?

So … if you retook and scored a 36, would you stand out? Apparently not, if that’s common among your peer group! (I’m not being sarcastic - I’m glad that you explained why you might retake with an already high score).I wouldn’t worry about the essay score - it’s not that low and you can easily make up with it with thoughtful well written essays elsewhere in your application.Instead of studying for the ACT and trying to improve to a 36 (which is often a matter of luck anyway), focus on doing something else to improve your application. Think of it this way - you don’t think you’re a worse student for having a score of 34 versus your friend that has a 36. And if you do think that, it’s likely not because of your ACT score. So improve your application in other ways. Do something that you really care about and can write about passionately in your application (read something, organise something, volunteer somewhere, teach yourself a skill) etc. That will make you a better person, you’ll enjoy it much more than studying for the ACT, and I’m pretty sure it will look better than an extra 2 ACT points on an already excellent score.

Scored a 27 on the ACT -- should I retake it?

My goal in life is to become a forensic psychiatrist, which requires going to med school. I know that a 27 is a solid score, but I'm not sure if it's good enough for med school admission. My main question is, do ACT scores make a significant difference when it comes to getting into medical school? I think that I could score a 30 if I retake the test, because I felt rushed in the reading and science portions, and I believe I underachieved in the essay portion. I was always under the impression that med schools look more at your college GPA and MCAT scores rather than what you did in high school, but I could be wrong.

I know that my score of 27 will get me into the universities I plan on applying to, so I don't know if retaking it will be worth it.
