RX-8.

Mazda Rx8 As a First Car?

The rx8 is a wonderful car, but probably not as a first car.

You really have to be on top of all maintenance with the car. Check oil every fill up(or every other fillup), replace spark plugs every 30k miles, ignition coils every 30-40k is a good idea as well. You cannot start it up and move it across the street and turn it off without letting it warm up or you will flood it. There is a ton more stuff, read everything you can at rx8club.com and you can really find out what needs to be done.

You will be looking at about 15mpg city and 22 mpg highway so maybe 17-18 mixed mpg. I assume you mean your gas costs $1.30 a liter not a gallon, per gallon you would be paying $4.92 and a gallon is only going to get you like 15-20 miles. I get maybe 230-250 miles to a tank of gas that would be about 400 KM for you per tank(roughly, could be lower and could be higher.) You are going to be paying a LOT for insurance being 16 y/o with that car. I am not sure a part time job would even cover car payment + insurance + gas for you.

Winter tires work out pretty good as long as you get some good ones. I think most people go with blizzaks, the ice & snow blizzaks are about $650 in stock size before installation and the winter & snow ones are about $850 before installation. The more expensive ones are supposed to be amazing in the snow but I'm sure the cheaper ones do alright.

Just get a car for less than 2 or 3k as your first car and drive that for maybe 6 months to a year then you sell that and buy whatever car you want. It is better to get that much experience behind the wheel in a cheap car. I am not saying you would abuse it but accidents happen all the time. If you get some experience driving the cheap car then you can try and avoid them in the nicer car at least.

C7S the info you are giving to people in #4 is SCARY. No oil changes and using "special" oil, you are out of your mind. no wonder you think rotarys do not last very long lol. You change the oil the same as any other car, every 3k miles or so. You use whatever oil you want, some people say no synthetic some say its fine. Personally I use 10w40 dino in my rx8 because its hot where I live. Yes premium gas is required, 91 is just fine if that is whats in your area. Seriously though, do not answer another question about a rotary engine because the info you are giving could seriously damage someones engine who is clueless enough to listen.

2004 Mazda rx8 Pros and Cons?

Oh man... the guy who uses too many caps locks doesn't know too much...
The rotary engine is a love hate relationship with enthusiasts. They don't make very good torque and spin very high RPM's. the car makes all of it's power up high.
They are not cheap on insurance... the top speed of a car has very little to do with insurance.
the best thing you can do is call your agent and ask what a 2005 Rx8 would cost you in insurance because your rate will take into account things like your age, sex, driving record, past claims, where you live, other cars you insure, other insurance aside from automobile insurance, grades in school or years after grad. It all plays into the rate so it's not just the car and the range anyone provides on here is just a guess. take a few minutes to call an insurance agent and get a free quote that looks at all your factors. A quote doesn't mean you have to buy their insurance so no harm in looking.

The cars are generally slow for a sports car. They have a strong following of tuners though. They handle well and as long as you keep the rpm's up they have moderate acceleration. They burn through oil, and maintenance bills are not cheap on these cars.
There are better options for the money but it depends what you like and what you want.

Mazda RX-8 or Audi a4?

An RX8 didn't come with a V6. If it actually does have a V6 it was some kind of aftermarket modification, those cars only came with Rotary engines (hence the RX in the name). Generally I'd avoid cars such as this. If it's a rotary as I suspect they had less power than the manual ones, you have to rev the hell out of that engine for it to go reasonably fast. It is a much better car with a stick.

Neither of these cars will be cheap to own - they both are well used, and neither are particularly reliable. If you put a gun to my head I'd probably choose the Audi, but I'd buy something else - I'd sacrifice the more expensive brand for something newer and lower miles.

Audi A4 or Lexus IS250?

2009 or 2010, I like the A4.

2011 or 2008 or older, IS250 hands down. 2008 or older is before the A4 re-design, the 2008s and older are just plain boring. That was also during the period when the criticism of Audi being an overpriced Volkswagen were pretty true. The 2011 IS250s now have the cool looking headlight accents (everyone copied Audi) that take that styling edge away from Audi.

Finally, remember that the A4 only has a 4 cylinder engine (IS250 is a small 6). While it's a good one and similar in horsepower to the IS250, I personally find it a bit noisy.

Drive 'em both, pick the one you like.

Should i buy a mazda rx-8 ? see details?

I reallly want a 2004 rx-8 but ive heard it has some problems with the rotary engine. Im turning 16 and its my first car so i need it to be reliable. i love the looks of the car and the whole coupe/sedan thing. its also affordable, i can find one around 10 grand. if its not a good idea to buy it, what car would have the same features around the same price that isnt too old ?

How can I make my 2006 manual RX8 faster?

If you add a CAI and an exhaust don't expect big gains, they will be low if any. The stock parts on this car are VERY good. For the most part the only reason to upgrade those two would be if you want more sound from your car.

The one cheap thing you can do that can add possibly 5 hp or so(maybe more, its debatable) is a midpipe with no cat or a high flow cat. Just a straight pipe with no resonators will add the most, with resonators should be less hp but still a gain and then with a high flow cat its the same story. Even with the high flow cat you might not pass emissions, without a cat you for sure wont though lol.

Really the only way to make it noticeably faster would be to add a turbo or super charger and get it tuned via the cobb access port from MazdaManiac(he does amazing tunes, but it does take some time to get to your final tune). Either that or sell the car and buy something faster, or drop a v8 in it.

It is not meant to be a super fast straight line car so you might even consider upgrading the suspension. Get some nice springs and shocks, aftermarket sway bars, etc. Play on its strengths.

Should I buy a 03 audi a4 1.8t quattro with 165,000 miles for $4,700?

I don't ever recommend an Audi. Not great cars. We get different cars here in the US than they sell in Europe. The Audi with a 1.8 is a passat. Period. Not a good car. If style is all that matters, get the Audi. If you want a good car get a Japanese car. Specifically a Honda. They run forever.

How much would an automatic to manual transmission swap cost?

It depends on what vehicle and what manual transmission. In general, on a rear wheel drive vehicle, swapping out the auto for a stock style manual isn’t terrible. Stock manual transmission assemblies can run anywhere from $1000 to $2000 on common vehicles. Removal and replace usually takes between 5 and 8 hours. Adding a clutch pedal and mounting a cylinder depends on the vehicle and again, whether it is aftermarket or stock bolt in. The problem is, you can’t always just bolt stock replacements back in. If the parts aren’t modular, then adding a pedal can take some time.Swapping out the flex plate for a flywheel and installing a clutch only adds about 15 minutes to the overall labor time.I doubt that manual and auto trans on any vehicle are exactly the same length, so the driveline probably needs to be cut and re-welded. This part of the job would be outsourced by most shops and may run 100–300 bucks. Measuring everything properly so accurate info can be given to the driveline shop takes time. Pinion angles must be checked with the new driveline and in some cases must be adjusted which sometimes requires different spacers being installed under the rear axle.Measuring and cutting a hole for the shifter and boot takes time. Re-wiring the neutral safety switch takes time as well. So, you have the parts cost of transmission, pedal assembly, reservoir, clutch fluid hose or cable, clutch kit, flywheel, driveline modification, any additional brackets that must be bought or made, shifter boot and neutral safety switch swap. Then you have the standard labor of removing and installing the trans, plus the extra labor of making everything work. The extra labor cost is very hard to pin down without knowing what vehicle and if you are going with nice, aftermarket parts or trying to stick with stock parts.Trying to covert a front wheel drive vehicle to manual has potential to be easier. It would be (possibly) easier and cheaper to just buy a complete motor/trans assembly and swap out the whole thing. Sensors might need to be modified and some holes cut in the firewall, but anything can be done. So, I dont know. On old trucks you might be able to do it for 2500 if you buy all new components. On newer vehicles it gets more and more expensive the newer you get as more and more components must be modified or swapped.

Can a clogged catalytic converter unclog itself?

Well, it can happen that they will de-clog on their own, but usually need a helping hand.  If it is utterly blocked, then dismantling and manually cleaning is the only solution. If the ceramic material inside is melted, then change it.Most modern Cats are stuffed with a ceramic honeycomb structure, unlike the older ones that had complex filters with platinum wool amongst other stuff inside them. One of the reasons they get clogged is people lugging around in fifth gear making lots of soot which clogs the honeycomb.A faulty EGR valve (gas recirculation) will do the trick as well.Faulty injection, allowing to much fuel to come through the exhaust can cause the honeycomb to melt when it starts burning the fuel... (replacement)But you can clear a blocked (not 100% blocked) converter by getting it hot enough to make it finish what it is supposed to do.The garages here in France have a naughty technique, they hoist the car up on lift with the motor going flat out, and stand underneath it holding a fire extuinguisher, just in case it sets fire to the car, or any flames from the now burning soot comes blasting out of the rear.It is a dangerous technique in my opinion, and not good for the engine, but it works.  I don't suppose it works everytime either. So if you have a CAT that is partially blocked because you mooch around in fifth gear or have bad driving habits, you could try driving the vehicle hard enough to heat the CAT as it should be, where usually it can clear itself. So , if it is soot build up, there is hope for you, to unclog it without taking it off the vehicle and or changing it, if it is hard blocked with mineral deposits, unlikely. If it is melted, its got to be changed.
