Should I Stay Heavyweight Or Drop To 180 Pounds

Do heavy weights with low reps build as much muscle as that with lower weight and higher reps?

Here’s the cold HARD TRUTH about using Heavy Weights vs. Light Weight to build muscle that NO ONE talks about.A 2010 paper in the Journal of Strength & Conditioning Research by Brad Schoenfeld identified these three mechanisms of rapid muscle growth as – mechanical tension, metabolic stress, and muscle damage.Mechanical Tension: (Lifting Heavy For 2-6 reps and Resting For 2-5 Minutes Between Sets Creating Myofibrillar Hypertrophy). Myofibrillar hypertrophy is when you grow the muscle fibers and build strength.Metabolic Stress: Lifting 80% of Your 1 Rep Max For 8-12 Reps and Resting For 40-90 Seconds Between Sets Creating Sarcoplasmic Hypertrophy). Sarcoplasimc hypertrophy is the amount of fluid you produce within the muscle for size GAINS.Muscle Damage: Super-Sets, Drop Sets, Intraset Stretching, DRTS, Eccentric’sIf you are interested in learning more about the 3 mechanisms to muscle growth, See More Here: 3 Mechanisms To Muscle GrowthOnce you read about the 3 mechanism to muscle growth, you'll see how lifting heavy or light weight affects people in different ways based on their body composition.Have you ever wondered why some people are able to build muscle only using heavy weight while others only use light weight? It’s based on how your body responds to different forms of stimuli mainly, your dominant muscle fiber type. Most men and women never stop to think about what muscle fiber type they are when training. It could very well be possible that your workouts could be suffering if you’re training for a muscle fiber type that is not your own.It makes sense that you want to get the most out of your workouts by training according to your muscle fiber type. How do you figure out your muscle fiber type? Here’s a short 5 question quiz to find out! Here are some simple rules to follow when determining your muscle fiber type. There are 3 main muscle fiber types:Fast TwitchBetter at sprinting as opposed to long distance runningexplosive powerVertical jump higher than 23 inchesLess than 7 reps on 80% of your 1 rep max.Longer rest periods between setsSlow TwitchBetter at marathons or long distance runningVertical jump under 17 inchesMore than 7-9 reps on 80% of your 1 rep maxShorter rest periods between setsMixedA combination of the 2 above (Fast and Slow Twitch)Once you Determine what dominant muscle fiber type you are, you’ll be able to train based on how your body responds.

5'10 Heavyweight?

I'm 15 and currently stand at 5'10 and weigh 215 lbs. of fat and muscle and I have a big body frame. My weight doesn't really restrict my mobility and the speed of my punches that much. My question is should I be a heavyweight or try to cut down to a lower weight class? I'm asking this due to my current height of 5'10 which is short for a heavyweight.

Which weight class should I be fighting at in MMA?

Definitely not welterweight (170 lbs)Probably not lightweight (155 lbs)Probably featherweight (145 lbs)Maybe bantamweight (135 lbs)Here’s some old data (from 2012) that analyzed MMA fighters by height. At 5′9–1/2, your closest match would be lightweight though, from what I’ve seen more recently both at the amateur and pro levels, it seems that featherweight might be the right choice. Right now, in the Featherweight Division, Jose Aldo is 5′7″. Conor McGregor is 5′9″. Anthony Pettis is 5′10″. Charles Oliveira is 5′10″.And in the Bantamweight Division, you have Dominick Cruz at 5′8″, Cody Garbrandt at 5′8″, Bryan Caraway at 5′8″, and Erik Perez at 5′8″. (My son practiced quite a bit with Perez at Jackson-Wink a few summers ago.)Really, though, the answer is what you can cut down to (and recover from) in order to fight. But water weight alone will take at least 15–20 lbs. off of you.

Im 14 and i weigh 180, i need to lose weight b4 skool starts over the summer. HELP!!!?

It depends how tall you are.

Right - this summer, you're gonna have to do something about it. Remember that this is about your health, don't you DARE worry about the way you look. I am overweight too and I have a gorgeous boyfriend, boys like me and people say I am pretty. So don't you worry about those things - just you worry about your health. Your health is fine now, but you're like me - when both of us get older, we could get problems =(

Sit your Mum down and tell her you want to eat healthily. If you can manage to take her with you to your Doctors, do that and your Doctor can help you tell your Mother what food to buy, and help you with your diet and exercise routine!

Sign up for some classes this summer - like martial arts! Don't worry what everyone thinks, just do it! If you can't do that, make sure you spend 2 hours a day just out, exercising and playing around. The upcoming summer will be perfect for you to get as much exercise as possible. Exercise doesn't have to be boring and hard, it can be really great fun!

The first thing you can do right now is swap every drink you have for plain tap or mineral water. You can lose alot of weight by not drinking pop or soda. Just drink water whenever you're thirsty, and nothing else, and you can lose alot of weight just like that! Of course, talk to your Mum about a healthy diet too - but the water thing is something you can start doing right now!!

I am trying to lose weight too =) If you have any questions feel free to e-mail me. Im friendly really!!!

Why are MMA fighters so big, yet so light?

I wouldn't say huge, but more toned and muscled. btw, there is only 10lbs of excess weight in the body, not 30lbs, well not unless you're very fat and unhealthy but in the case of Athletes its more like 10lbs. Water weight is very temporary and less than 5lbs.

GSP is 170lbs and people mistake him for being very big but he's quite small. Small legs, small arms but wide shoulders and a very flat abdomen.

Rampage JAckson looks like a big guy, probably 220 on a slack day, but he still passes off for 204lbs. He looks big but isn't. Like GSP, Rampage has a flat abdomen and chest, small arms and legs but wide shoulders, a good build for a wrestler.
