Should I Take Homeschool Help

Do you need your parents’ help to be homeschooled, or can you learn on your own?

Here is what you absolutely need from your parents for successful homeschooling:They need to pull you from public school and make sure they do it legally/contact your town officials (it’s usually regulated by town laws; some towns are mores strict than others). They need to be in a financial position that is stable enough to be able to provide you with books, resources, and anything else necessary for your success. If you can’t afford it, homeschooling isn’t the greatest idea. But that’s it. If you learn better independently, good for you. I’ve been making my own schedules and teaching myself at least half of my school subjects since fourth grade, and I’m doing great (if I do say so myself—I can provide ACT/PSAT scores if anyone objects to this ;) ). Nowadays, it’s a bit different since I take a lot of community college classes, but I’m still in charge of choosing those classes, registering for them, planning my homework schedule, and driving to and from class (now that I have my license). The only thing my mom needs to do nowadays related to my schooling is pays for my classes, writes up the required documents for the town, proofreads my more major papers before I submit them to professors, and comes to college tours with me.Of course, in actuality, she does so much more. The beauty of the system we have is that I go to her. She’s not forcing me to do anything, even go to college. She promises constantly that if I don’t keep up straight As, that’s perfectly fine. She doesn’t intervene, and the responsibility is on me—and this lack of pressure allows me to feel comfortable asking for her opinion, telling her I’m having a hard time with something, and working through both educational and emotional issues together. She is without a doubt my main source of support—emotionally and physically. There is no daunting pressure to succeed in every endeavor—just a personal desire to keep pleasing her and uphold the bar I have set for myself. That’s the best part of independently-driven homeschooling. I hold the steering wheel, but my parents fill the car with gas and let me know if I make a wrong turn. This is the opposite of public schoolers, who are virtually forced into the backseat of a cramped minivan that they sometimes don’t even be taking, being dragged along for the exact same ride as everyone else.

How can I get caught up in homeschool??? PLEASE HELP ME!?

Howdy-

I take online classes for college and the semesters are about as long a time period as you're describing. What I do is (besides following the syllabus to stay on track of due dates) is use a different 3X5 card for each week. It shows the class, assignment due, and the due date. I always make the due date 1 day earlier than it's really due in case something happens like a storm knocks out our phone or the computers dies, or I need to work around my kids' school things. As soon as the assignment is done, cross it out. It makes me feel hopefull whenever I see the list dwindle by even one assignment. I take a full course load so it's like you taking a full year of classes, but I only have 8 weeks to complete all that work. In other words, it can definitely be done. It looks like this:

Algebra-- answer all even # questions on pgs. 400-402 2/15
Geography-- essay on volcanos 3/2
test 3/5
Phil-- Essay Socrates 3/3
Bio-- 10 Questions p. 340 2/28
Hist.-- Read Pgs. 200-285 3/1
Quiz 3/2

The goal is to divide things like that so you've got a clear idea of the deadlines for each subject and you can plan accordingly. If you're organized it'll be pretty easy for you to get on top of your required units with time to spare.

Good luck,

Do you get paid for homeschooling your kids?

You do. You receive a payment in joy and a deeper connection with your family. You watch with pride as your child concurs obstacles and challenges. You watch them grow and learn and all the while you are rewarded with the knowledge that you have been instrumental in helping your child to prepare for adulthood. These things are priceless.  As for mere money? You will put out a whole lot more than you bring in but it is worth every penny you invest in your child’s future.I did however teach at a homeschool co-op and received a small amount for each student.

Going from Homeschool to Public School? HELP!?

Hello! I'm currently a 9th grader and I've been homeschooled my entire life. I've seemingly convinced my parents to maybe let me go to a public high school for 10th grade.
I'm a little scared of the differences that there will be.

I have a few questions:
A) Homework.
- for 10th grade..is homework really rough?
- What kind of homework do you get?
B) Advice
- How to fit in (I have a few friends that go to this school, but they're older than me.)
C) What classes are there and what are the electives available usually?
- As much info as you can, please.

This is in Colorado, if that helps.

Should I do homeschooling because of Anxiety? Please help?

I am 13 year old girl and my anxiety started in the age of 6 when i first went to school. I remember being very motivated for school but when I was about to step in the school building I would start crying and I would have breathing problems. Once I even threw up in school. Then I changed my school and I would still cry the whole day. It continued untill 5th grade when I changed my school again. Kids there seemed cool and we all got along but I would still cry. Not that massively but still I was crying. Crying got off now as I am in 7th grade but I still get really serious anxiety attacks before school. And my anxiety is still very strong. I get attacks before social events, birthdays, concerts etc. Please help me. I don't know what to do anymore.

I feel kinda cheated from doing homeschool...help?

Well there's not a lot to miss in a senior year except maybe a few football games at the school, which you can do with real football games or even go to the schools one with a boy friend or friends.

Then there's the prom and you can even go that if a boy from the school takes you as a date.

As for the prom a lot of it is kids gone wild. My former boss, when it was prom time out here, told me she went to the prom on her 18th birthday and got pregnant that night. The boy didn't stay with her and she became a single mom. So that's her prom memory.

There's a year book, but its usually just got one or two pictures of you and lots of farwell's from a lot people you may never see again.

What you should be more concerned with is your future.

You will be doing ALL that stuff and more in college, so you will have pleanty of Kids Gone Wild experiences because college is generally one big party for most students.

Beer bong 101 seems to almost be a manditory class.

Spring break is a bunch of kids in Cancun holding tall glasses with a dozen umbrella in them laughing hysterically.

So you'll have plenty of school memories.

That seems to be what you feel cheated out of, not the education, not if you're planning to go to college parttime in your senior year, which is what a freind of mine who was a brain did in his senior year. The high school sent him to a JC part time.

By the way, he flunked out of the UCLA, Astrophysics and Calculus did him in. He went from As in high school to Cs and Ds at UCLA

Most of my other friends ate the big one with ORganic Chemistry in college.

I'm talking it now as home school and finding it quite interesting. I digested the first 5 hours in one sitting. I'm taking it at my own pace and will probably take it a second time a year later.

Most of my friends from high school became lawyer snobs or druggie snobs and I don't see them or hear from them anymore.

The friends I make are in the real world or through other friends or at work.

So stop looking backwards and sideways and keep looking ahead!
