Should I Take My Hamster To California

Where can I get Degus in California?

Chinchillas are VERY social animals. If you haven't done reasearch, here is some info about them:

They are very friendly and get very attached to you after they get to know you. You can take them out of their cage. In fact, you have to take them out of their cage daily at night for them to play and run around if they are older than 6 months. They are VERY entertaining to play with and watch. They love to run around and jump all over. They do not pee everywhere, but they poop everywhere. Their poops are tiny and hard, so it is easy enough to just vacuum up. Plus, they have no odor which is great! They can also tolerate being held and being pet.

Here is some general info about chinchillas:

All you have to do on a daily basis to care for them is refill food, water, and hay, and vacuum the poop and clean the cage in general. But you should do a full clean of the cage once a week and wash all dishes and scrub shelves, etc.
Chinchillas also take dust baths. You can get dust in a local pet store and put a little in a big bowl. Then you just put them in the bowl and they will roll around in it and it's adorable!

Also, chinchillas are a big responsibility and a long time commitment. They can live up to 20 years. They do require you to interact with them daily as they love attention. They are very fun to have and I would highly recommend one.
They also need to have wood and chews in their cage at all time as their teeth constantly grow and need things to chew on.
You will have to do tons of research before hand though.
There are just a few cons to getting one. The initial expenses can be pricey (the chin itself, the cage, food, bowls, dust, hay, toys, chews, etc.)

I would definitely consider getting one if you are willing to put in the effort.

Why is my hamster sad??

Its nice of you to be so concerned about your pet, and I will do my best to answer every question you have.

Try moving your hamster to a cooler area of the house. Often, lower levels of a house will be several degrees cooler than higher floors. If theres any air conditioned rooms, move your hamster there, and possibly start a fan to cool him off.

Take your hamster to the vet if you can afford it. If you can't, its okay. I still have some suggestions that will help your hammie feel better.

Try feeding your hamster a pinch of nutritional yeast or half a yeast pill per week. Yeast activly reduces stress in hamsters, which is the primary cause of many hamster diseases. Do not give bakers yeast because it has a bitter taste. Nutritional yeast can be found in health food stores, and plain yeast pills can be found in the cat or dog section of a pet shop.

Also, make sure that your hamster has a fresh supply of food, and especially water. If your hamster drinks from a bottle, it may possibly be plugged. Check this, and then try feeding your hamster water through a syringe without a needle or a juicebox straw.

You mentioned that hes not eating that well. Try changing food brands to a more expensive brand, and give him treats once and a while such as occasional small peices of hard boiled egg.

Chew toys can help to keep your hamster busy. Give your hamster things to chew such as toilet paper rolls, popsicle sticks, or maple twigs.

Play with your hamster more often and let him crawl on you for excersise and fun. In additon to a wheel, try buying him a hamster/gerbil ball for running around in your house in. Encourage him to use this by nudging it gently while he is inside.

I really hope this helped you and your hamster. Good Luck!

To determine if these restrictions apply to you, look at the date on your driver license. The date printed just to the left of your photograph is the date these restrictions begin. The new restrictions apply for 12 months following this date. For example: If the date on your license is May 7, 2005, you will have the above restrictions through May 7, 2006. Violation of either restriction can result in a fine and/or community service.  Persons under 18 may not be employed to drive a motor vehicle. When you turn 18 years of age, the provisional part of your license ends. Why are gerbils illegial to own in california but not hamsters or other rodents ?

Something about the laws in Ca that protect the other wildlife.
Because gerbils are very adaptable creatures and could find a way to survive, if the gerbil escapes it can thrive in the climate there possibly out competing several indigenous animals for resources. Arizona and Florida also tend to make owning certain animals difficult for the same reason.

How much is it for a Hamster vet check up?

well hamsters are small animals so they would be less then a cat and dog so about 40-50

So I'm getting a hamster in 3 days. I think I'm going to keep it in my room. My room is usually 80-82 degrees. Will my hamster be ok in there?
