Should I Trust An Open Box

What does "open box" mean?

open box items are typically from three categories:Returned items: (best) These are items that people brought back within the return period. They usually just decided to exchange the items for something else or decided that they didn’t want this particular item. Its generally pretty safe to buy these as they are essentially new items. If the customer stated that the item did not function the store would not have put them back out on the floor. If they are defective or missing pieces you can return the item to the store within the usual return period.Shelf displays: After a while the stores sell their display items because they no longer need them. These are generally working items that have been used for the year and are still functioning albeit with some amount of wear and tear. These items are usually OK as well, but you might be advised to use some of the money you save to purchase a warranty from the store.Refurbished items: (worst): These are items that were exchanged out for a customer for being broken and then sent out to a service center to be repaired. These items are then shipped back to a store to be sold as an open item. The boxes are usually beat up from being shipped, they are typically missing screws or they are put together wrong. Look for shipping labels or a small white sticker that says “Store Stock.” I do not recommend these items. If you do take a chance on them it is strongly recommended that you try out the device for the return period to check for complete functionality and also you should buy a warranty on these items as well.

Can I trust newegg open box for a laptop, is it worth the risk?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220700R&Tpk=ASUS%20G%20Series%20G51JX-X1

Now I know that alot of the laptop policies on newegg are basically no refunds, but return for replacement within 30 days. Since this is an open box, it basically means that who ever bought, returned it for some reason to get the (same?) laptop.

Now this open box does say return for >refund< within 30 days. Should I buy it just to see if there is nothing wrong and if there is, return it for the refund. Would anyone happen to know if I get the full refund?

I trust newegg, but have never bought an open box item, and have heard about nightmarish experiences. On top of that, would the asus 2 year parts and labor warranty still be active, along with the 1 year accidental that a sealed box would come with.

Thanks ALOT, to any answers I can get.

Open box laptop from best buy is a good deal?

I found an HP laptop that I liked on best buy page... I'm going to buy it, but i'm not sure if I should buy a open box laptop that is cheaper or buy it new. I heard that it is good to buy an open box because it has been already checked that everything worked fine. What about the warranty? Should I buy the extended warranty or not. Does every laptop has a free warranty that cover hardware problems that were not caused by the owner? Where can I look for this warranty info... Please help. First time buying a laptop.

How reliable are open box products from Best Buy?

In theory Open box items should be functionally identical to new in box items. the Geek Squad Certified Open Box program (GSCOB) has a 42 point check list that a product has to meet in order to be certified as Geek Squad Certified. If an Open box is missing an accessory it should say so on the pricing tag on the box.HOWEVER … I have personally seen multiple cases where managers violated the system and had Geek Squad associates sign off on something being Geek Squad Certified when it shouldn’t have been because being GSCOB means they only take 5% off the floor prices rather than 10%+.Bottom line: open box or not, the items are still covered by manufacturer’s warranty for 12 months after purchase. Assuming the individual store is following policy, they should be noting any missing components or damage to the system on the pricing tag on the box. I would suggest buying the item in question and opening it in the store before you leave. If the contents of the box, or the condition of the item does not agree with the pricing tag, speak with a manager. If the manager gives you a hard time, get the manager’s name, take your receipt, and the open box item home, file a customer survey (instructions are on the receipt) noting the problem. Reference the manager you speak with by name. Then call 1–888-BestBuy and file a complaint. Believe me, double filing like this (complaint at 888-bb and CSI survey) the issue will be addressed and very quickly.

When buying an item on eBay, just what does "open box" mean?

In addition to the excellent answer by Chris Han , some sellers have Minimum Advertising Price restrictions (MAP) by their distributor or manufacturer. They cannot sell items below that price without jeopardizing their relationship with the manufacturer. This kind of puts them in a pickle if they are overstocked. So, sometimes they will list an item as open box, floor sample, or “used, like new” so that they can sell it without violating a MAP policy. I would certainly ask the seller what the situation is with the item before purchasing. More than likely you can get yourself a good deal.

Is it safe to buy open box mobile phone?

No, not at all.Let me tell you my story. In November 2015, I went to local market to buy a galaxy j7. A shopkeeper offered it at good price which was lesser than what online store offered. So, I purchased it and it worked fine for four months and then display flickering started. I headed for the Samsung care centre and trust me they don't even care about customers. It was such a bad experience. Although they replaced the octa (display), but it took around one month.. can you believe they took whole one month!!!!!. Then I thought that its okay now my phone will work finely. But the story doesn't end here, it started to flicker again. I knew I've to suffer again with that f**king staff again. But this time I waited patiently for another one month and their behaviour with customers like they don't care about them. After one month I got my phone but wait it wasn't my phone they exchanged my phone and battery with someone else's phone I complained about this to them and I got the battery replaced but they denied to change my phone because it was my phone's motherboard inside someone's eles's phone.Ps. Seal of the box was broken when I purchased it.I hope u got the answer.
