Should I Try And Get Promoted Work An Extra Job Or Move On To A Full-time Job

Should I work full time while at college?

Sounds like you are setting yourself up for failure. If you are already going poorly, why are you trying to make it worse with greater demands?

If you leave college now, you will probably not go back. Most people don't. Get a part time job that doesn't interfere with your classes. Make graduating in a year your top priority and getting a job comes second. My daughter has that kind of schedule that makes it impossible to hold a day job, so she has a job that is just on weekends.

Getting the degree opens up the opportunities to get a better than minimum wage job. Stay with it. It also greatly increases your chance of promotion when you do get a career. You are only 22. Pretty silly to think you are screwing yourself of the opportunity for a career.

Grad school while working full-time? Too much?

I am in grad school right now and I do work full-time and it isn't easy. I get off work and go to class, and don't have any time for myself, but I know that its worth it. It's better than taking out a whole bunch of student loans that I can't pay back, or taking so much out that it'll take forever to pay back. And I also take summer classes. So it just depends on how much you want to succeed and the time and effort that you are willing to put into it. If you take it one day at a time and try not to stress about the next month or so it wont be so bad.

How many hours do I have to work at Walmart to make it a full-time job?

The full time status essentially is dictated by the state you work in US. The government can’t tell employers what hours to schedule employees, but does govern the overtime and safety. The Wall-Mart cannot simply say: hey! You get benifits/ full time status if you work 168 hours a week! That will conflict with some sort of regulation or discrimination statute.Your question should be aimed to clarify if you are exempt from overtime while working so and so hours. The overtime is governed by Federal and State laws. Some part-time employees qualify for overtime. You need to go on DOLgov and check your situation based on your location. Walmart lost public class action lawsuits for screwing employees. You should check on that stuff. Generally 40 hours a week with 7 days week, regardless when you are scheduled to work will qualify you for overtime. Fringe benefits also indirectly governed by State and Federal laws. Employer cannot discriminate with wages based on the race, disability, national origin, etc. So question why you are not scheduled the hours that you are qualified and able to work.

How does Mcdonalds’ shift system work?

I had trouble with this because I just started school and wanted less hours. I told them when I got the job I would work as much as they wanted until I go to school. They continued to give me close to but not 40 hours a week and schedule me for 6 days a week (keep in mind this wasn't the only scheduling problem I had with them.) You fill out a availability sheet. And if your a good worker and have a good attitude you'll basically get all the hours you want. Anyways I told three different managers including the one who does the schedule but nothing changed til I went to the general manager and informed him of what was happening. He fixed it asap. So technically they're flexible but you shouldn't have to risk going over 3 managers heads and having them angry at you, even if they were the ones who didn't do their jobs. The other problems were minor things like making me work late one night and having to be there first thing in the morning. Other then the pay my only other complaint (which will happen at any job like this) would be some of my co-workers attitude both from the teenagers and older adults who work there. Sorry I thought I was posting on something else. But I've seen people work two shifts of 3 or 4 hours a week. My longest shift has been 10 hours not including a half hour lunch break. And I've worked 6 days a week at most. So there really isn't a system. It goes more by what they need.
