What fast food restaurants have veggie burgers?

Not many. Burger King has a veggie burger. Subway has the VegMax, or you can get a Veggie Delight. Chipotle, Qdoba, California Tortilla, and Moe's Southwest Grill all have veggie options (Moe's even has tofu for your tacos!). If you have an iPhone/iPod Touch, there's an app called VeganXpress which tells you what's vegan at many fast-food places. Since you're just going veg, you MAY be able to get cheese in some places. At Wendisease, you're pretty much limited to the side salad.

Anyone know what brand McAlisters Chicken Tortilla Soup is?

"Because McAlister's Deli is a franchise chain with more than 50 units, its soups are delivered to the restaurants frozen and in plastic bags. However, the local franchisees’ representative, Breck Phillips, was able to provide a recipe modified for home use by McAlister's corporate chef. We modified it further, and it's now a close match to what is served in the restaurants."

2 boneless, skinless chicken breast halves
1 1/2 teaspoons olive oil
1/2 medium onion, minced
2 tablespoons minced garlic
1 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 (14.5-ounce) can crushed tomatoes
1 (28-ounce) can low-sodium chicken broth
3/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons water, divided
1/4 cup cornstarch
1 (4-ounce) can chopped green chiles
4 ounces shredded Cheddar cheese (about 1 cup)
1 tablespoon chopped fresh cilantro
2 cups tortilla chips
1 bunch green onions, sliced

Bring about 1 inch of water to a boil in a skillet large enough to hold the chicken in a single layer. Add chicken, reduce heat to a simmer and cook until chicken is done, about 15 minutes. Drain chicken; cut into 1/2-inch cubes.

In a medium stockpot, heat oil over medium heat. Add onion and garlic; saute until soft.

Stir in chili powder, oregano, tomatoes and their liquid, chicken broth and 1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons water.

Stir together cornstarch and remaining 1/4 cup water; stir into stockpot. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 5 to 10 minutes, until broth is slightly thickened.

Stir in chiles, cheese, cilantro and cooked chicken. Stir until cheese melts, then let simmer for 10 minutes.

Ladle soup into bowls; serve chips on the side (or crumble a few chips over each bowl of soup). Garnish with chopped green onions.

Yield: 4 servings

What are some tips for meal planning when counting calories if you hate cooking?

I like to eat the same things every day during the week and I HATE cooking. On weekends I relax and eat what I want. I’ve developed a weekday meal habit that I know the calories for so if I stick to it (and sometimes I don’t), then I know I’m getting good nutrition and a limited amount of calories. Here’s what I eat:Breakfast (310 calories without the shake - 600 with the shake):On days I exercise I make a protein shake with my magic bullet (1 scoop protein powder, some milk, banana and peanut butter).I also eat 2 scrambled eggs and a piece of wheat toast and some sort of fruit. It does involve some cooking but takes less than 5 minutes.Lunch (510 calories):Trader Joe’s black bean and cheese burrito. Super filling and tasty - about 510 calories. Throw it in the toaster oven for about 10 minutes, super easy. I buy 5 per week when I do my weekly grocery shopping so it doesn’t involve any going out.Snack (300 calories):I usually eat snacks with my kids after school and we’re suckers for 7-Eleven junk food, so I usually give myself a break here but try to stay under 300 calories.Dinner (500 calories):Ok, this is cheating a little bit because my husband DOES cook and makes large batches of fried rice every Monday so we each reheat a small bowl for dinner every night. The rice is easy to make - we do precooked Trader Joe’s rice (in the frozen aisle), half brown, half white, some garlic, green onions, broccoli, eggs and chicken with soy sauce. I think he adds some other spices and oils as well, I don’t know, I don’t cook the damn thing. He cooks once a week and it gets us dinner for 5 days, so I still count that as a no-cook meal.So in total it’s about 1620 calories a day, 1910 with the shake on days I exercise (which typically burns 500–700 calories, so it more than cancels out the shake).

What are some vegetarian fast food restaurant items with lots of protein?

Here's some of what's in my area:1. Tofu stack with beans and cheese from Moe's Southwest Grill: 41g protein2. 8" Veggie Pizza from Subway: 32g protein 3. Vegetable lo mein with tofu from Japanese Express: 32g protein4. Spinach & Feta breakfast wrap from Starbucks: 19g protein (add 8 oz milk or tall caramel macchiato for +8g protein: 27g protein) 5. Bowl of black bean soup w/ side baguette from Panera Bread: 23g protein 6. Hotcakes w/ scrambled eggs from McDonald's: 21g protein 7. Morningstar Veggie Burger from Burger King: 21g protein8. Falafel pita with hummus & feta from Pita Pit: 19g protein 9. Grilled cheese from Sonic: 14g protein (add small fry for +2g protein: 16g protein)10 Bean burrito from Taco Bell: 15g proteinAlso, if you happen to have a Publix or Whole Foods in your area you can get some of the healthy stuff other people are saying (quinoa salad for example) readymade at the price and convenience of fast food and should definitely try that out.Hopefully this will give you some ideas!

I just went to a fast food place called Moe's and as I was paying I was asked if I wanted to provide a tip. I was confused. Why should I provide a tip at a fast food restuarant? What is the purpose of this?

Here in California, almost all restaurants ask for a tip aside from McDonald’s, Burger King, Wendy’s, and a few other major fast food joints. Pizza my heart is an example. You order a slice they put it in the oven for 30 seconds to a minute and hand it to you and ask for a tip. Another is Panera bread, they put my soup in a bowl and ask for a tip. It is kind of absurd that this is expected nowadays but I guess because the cost of living is so high it’s expected.
