Should I Worry About My Cats Safety

Is it safe for cat to try to eat jolly ranchers?

Yes. Your cat can break his teeth on such hard candy, won't be able to chew it, and it can easily get lodged in his throat.

That being said, the actual ingredients in the candy won't harm your cat, but it's almost entirely sugar and that's not something a cat should have in their diet.

So it's not safe for a cat to eat a jolly rancher and anything with sugar isn't healthy for any pet... except honey for Sugar Gliders. :O

I gave my cat a Wotsit, was it safe for her to eat?

So, I was eating a packet of Wotsits, and my cat was sat on the sofa next to me. She sort of sniffed the wotsit, so I held it in front of her, and she started licking all the cheesy stuff off it, she seemed to like it! So I put it down for her to do what she wanted with it. Next thing I knew, she'd picked it up in her mouth like a dog with a bone, and jumped off the sofa. She was sat on the floor with this wotsit, and I could hear her crunching it. She was there for a while figuring out how to eat this thing. So, I came down, and saw that the wotsit was all gone, and she was licking her lips. She'd eaten the whole thing!
Afterwards I started worrying about whether it was safe for her to eat or not. Will she be okay?

How long after a neuter do I have to worry about a cat licking it?

I would leave the cone on your cat when you're not there to supervise. The cat will get used to moving around with it on. I would leave it on for several days when you're not supervising the cat. It's still pretty raw I'm sure, so I wouldn't let your cat lick it too much. It's okay for him to clean the area but you don't want him "fixating" on it. Here's an article for you: http://www.pets.ca/encyclopedia/neuter_cat.htm
This site recommends keeping the cat calm, indoors and from excessive licking for 7 days after the neutering procedure.

What type of food can I feed my cat, other than pet foods?

You mean human food? Hmm, cats’ tastes vary, but your cat would probably love it if you were to open a can of tuna. :-)Don’t worry if commercial cat food isn’t available for a while. When I was a child, my mom fed our cat the same food the family were eating. That cat lived a long and healthy life, so obviously the diet wasn’t bad for the cat, even though it wasn’t ideal.Fish and meat of any kind would be very welcome. (A cat can eat fish and meat raw, but for safety reasons you may want to cook them. That childhood cat adored raw minced meat, fresh from the butcher’s shop, above anything else.) The following items would also be good - although not every cat likes them: cooked eggs, cooked vegetables (many cats are fond of broccoli, sweetcorn or beans), rice, hummus, porridge. My Sulu recommends baked beans in tomato sauce. :-)Cats can also eat potatoes and bread, although most will only eat a bit of those.Milk can be great, and also a bit of cheese and yoghurt. But be careful with this, because some cats have a lactose intolerance and can’t digest milk or dairy. If you’re not certain whether or not your cat can digest milk and dairy, give it just a spoonful and observe if it’s ok. (If your cat vomits or gets funny poo, don’t give it any more.)Basically, you can let your cat have a bit of almost any human food. It’s not an ideal diet in the long term, because cats have different nutritional needs. But it’s not a problem for a while, as long as you include meat or fish. Here are the exceptions: grapes, raisins, chocolate, onions, garlic, alcohol, chewing gum. Those are toxic for cats. Don’t give your cat those. Also, avoid salt and spices, especially very salty foods. If the canned tuna is preserved in brine, rinse it before giving it to your cat.I hope this helps.PS: The question I answered got merged with a different one, which isn’t quite the same. The question I replied to asked what food to give a cat until the original asker could get to the shop to buy cat food. This implies just a very short time. The question it was merged with is about a situation where cat food isn’t available, which may be a permanently. — Please read my answer in the context it was intended.

Is it safe for my cat to put out roach bait traps?

Don't let your cat get to one of those traps.......

Put them UNDER appliances.... INSIDE cabinet under sink, toward the back, so the cat can't find it....... NEVER put one on a counter top. The roaches will find them.......UNDER the refrigerator, stove, etc.......They don't need to be seen.

My cats like to "play" with roaches that they come across, but never bother them if they're already dead.....so, hopefully, your cat won't bother a dead roach. You just need to keep an eye out for one that is "dying", and pick it up before the cat finds it.

You can make your own roach bait, by getting some boric acid crystals and mixing them with flour and cocoa powder. Put in a bottle cap and stick waaaaaaaay back under stove, fridge, etc. These are poisonous to roaches, but can make animals sick, so don't let your cat get to these, either. If you mix up a "batch" of this, and keep it in a (lidded) jar, it will last FOREVER...because you only need about 1/2 teaspoon in a bottle cap, to do the job.....

Hope this helps...........Just BE CAREFUL with your cat. NO poison is "safe" when a cat eats it!

Good luck.

Is merthiolate tincture safe on cats?

my cat tore out his nail while falling out of his cat tree, he tried to hold on to the ledge and fell. he was licking his paw and saw a little blood. when i pressed his paw gently to expose his nail from its sheath it was dangling so it was easy to jus tug it gently and it fell out. inside the sheath i saw a little pink nub which im assuming is the quick? i cleaned it out, it didnt seem to bother him much. now its been almost 2 weeks and hes having a little pain. i tried gently seperating the sheath to see inside and be able to clean his toe better but it wont open, it seems to have closed up, but the weird thing is i sorta see a little nub pushing from the inside of the sheath. could be his new nail trying to come out? i called my vet and all they said was keep the area clean, bandage it if the cat allows. if he starts showing signs of not being his usual bubbly self to bring him in. he doesnt have a fever, he eats and drinks like he always has, he even plays with his brother, and he doesnt limp so im not too worried. but yes sorry for the long post but i was just wondering if merthiolate tincture is safe to use on him?

My cat has worms, she sleeps with me. Is there anyway I could get the worms?

the only way you can get tapeworms is by ingesting a flea. tapes are not like intestinal worms where all it takes is ingesting the microscopic eggs to get them...a flea is necessary to be the "middle man" for this particular worm.

the segments that you see on her "bootyhole" (i laughed my @$$ off at that one, lol) are actually egg-filled sacs...even though it moves, it is not a worm itself. the eggs inside the sac MUST be ingested by a host (fleas) and mature to tapeworm larva before they become infective to other animals. so while it's pretty darned disgusting to have on your bed, you cannot catch tapeworms from these little sacs.

treating your pet for the worms itself and treating both the pet and your living areas for fleas is the best (and, in fact, the only) way to take care of this problem. no fleas, no tapeworms, no problems. don't worry or be paranoid. you're safe unless you swallow an infected flea...and if your kitty is being treated for both the worms & fleas, that isn't likely to happen. your risk of infection is really really really tiny. (i cannot stress enough just how tiny it is.)

http://www.marvistavet.com/html/body_tap...

EDIT: cannot begin to tell you how amazed i am at how many people believe a human can contract a tapeworm from the rice-like segments or eggs in poo. you can't. a flea is required to infect any critter with tapeworms. you can eat all the tapeworm eggs you like and not catch the worm itself. (disgusting thought, lol, but true.) if in doubt, call your vet - they are the best resource when it comes to finding out about zoonotic diseases and parasitic infections...and can usually tell you much more precisely than a human dr on just what it takes to catch something from an animal (it's their job to know how to keep that stuff at bay, you see.)

and your term is less nasty, i just thought it was funny. :-)

Is it safe for my cat to be drinking plant water?

It depends on what you are feeding the plant, are you simply watering it and the soil doesnt have fertilizers, then dont worry about it. Your using miracle grow or some other form of synthetic fertilizer then I would say see what you can do to stop it just on principal, I would think it would take a long time exposure to cause any real harm, but why risk it.
