Should My Toenail Hurt While Growing Back

Will my toenail grow back?

Now, what do you mean cut off? Did you have a wedge resection (where they cut a wedge on the affected side), a nail removal (nail removed, but nail bed intact), or a full removal where they destroy the nail bed? I've had wedge resections and they grow back normally, though the ingrown wasn't cured. Then I had to have both my big toe nails fully removed. I just have small parts of the nail that are growing back where the dr didn't fully destroy the nail bed. It was extremely painful for days afterwards, but I guess worth not having to deal with recurring ingrown nails.

Toenail fell off, will it grow back?

So, a couple weeks ago I hurt my big toe moderately badly in a lacrosse game when someone stepped on it directly with one of their cleat pegs. I had a pretty big Subungual Hematoma (the whole entire toe was black) and at first I didn't know what to do because I didn't think anything bad could happen because it happened once to my finger when I slammed it in a door by accident and it turned out fine. Well, my toenail just fell off. Pretty much completely. A couple days ago I was looking at it and I noticed something, like a gap between the toenail and the toe near the bottom. Lo and behold, it was coming off. The whole toenail has now fallen off more or less. My dad had his big toe toenail fall off when he kicked a board in taekwondo and it never really fully grew back. My question is
1. Will it grow back
2. How long will it take
3. Is there any thing to do to speed up the healing
4. Is it a health issue?
Thanks for the responses

Nail regrowing hurts?

Hi, a while ago I had my big toe nail removed by a doctor. It's growing back nice and fine, and infact it's almost all the way grown back, but it's starting to really hurt the past few days! Is this normal for a regrowing nail? Not really like a sharp pain, more like a discomfort if I put pressure anywhere on my toe.

It looks fine, its not infected or anything, but is it redigging into my skin, or is discomfort normal? Reason I had it removed was for an ingrown toenail.

Thanks

Will my toe nail ever grow back?

Give it two months. It will likely grow back within that time, if this was your little toe. If you see no signs of growth in that time, then the toenail is permanently lost.

If a toenail comes off, will it grow back?

yea nails grow back back but it takes a goooooood long while. ive lost about 7 nails total, really sucks. 7 nails and 4 broken ... phalanges.

Does a toenail that is ingrown grow back after surgery?

It has been over twenty-five years since I had the very minor surgery to remove an ingrown toenail. I don’t remember every detail, but I do recall some of it. I can remember watching the doctor inject local anesthesia. It took at least two or three injections to achieve the desired amount. Those didn’t really hurt, it was more of a discomfort than pain. Afterwards, he proceeded to cut and remove a narrow piece of my toenail, so as to remove the ingrown toenail. The ingrown toenail was quite deep, but was removed fairly easily. He then cleaned the area and packed it with gauze and wrapped it up. I don’t remember how long that I had to stay off of my foot while it healed, but I recall spending a great deal of time on the couch. As far as whether or not it grew back, well honestly, not really. You can clearly see a narrow spacing between the toenail and the side of the original nail bed. I think that it may have grown very slightly, but it has never reached its original location.I still have trouble with the occasional ingrown toenail on the other side and on the other big toe. In fact, the other big toe has issues where one side of it eventually breaks away and peels off. You can see in the above photo that the one that I had the surgery on, it has the appearance of a split down its center. The other big toe has similar issues. The doctor that performed the surgery, said that to avoid, or at least reduce the likelihood of ingrown toenails, one must cut their toenails straight across. This is supposed to ensure that the toenail only grows forward, rather than sideways as well. It is not completely effective, but it does help.

What do I do with my big toe nail that grows into my skin and hurt so much?

Although there might be more than one cause, the most probable one is that you are suffering from an ingrowing toe nail. The most important thing is that you do not attempt to cut or pull any part of the nail when you have this as you will most likely cause more damage. Visit your podiatrist so that the correct treatment is administered which will most likely involve a minor procedure where a wedge of the nail which is penetrating the skin is removed.

If you have a toenail, removed does it grow back?

Amazingly once removed, the toe nail will grow back. It takes some time, about 9 mos for the toe nail to cover the toe. Depending on weather the fungus affected the Matrix (the nail bed) it is possible that the nail will look normal again and you will be able to polish it for the sandals that you are planning on wearing next summer. Over the winter months, there will be medicine to put on and a sleeve to cover it with, and of course socks and shoes or boots to protect the sensitive toe. It will look natural. and you need to have patience until the toe nail is all grown out again. Certainly it will look much better than what you had with the seriously fungal toe nail. Not too much pain either. Best of luck

Does it hurt when your toenail falls off and grows back? I need advice!?

It is best to have a doctor remove it. I had to have that done when I was a kid. They just gave me a few local shots, cut it off, and told me to keep it clean and covered during the day. It does hurt when your toenail isn't there though. All that tissue underneath is very sensitive. You feel it rubbing on stuff and if you ever bump on anything it is enough to bring you to your knees. Other than that it is no big deal, nothing to get freaked out about.

Toe nail ripped out, will it grow back?

The same thing happend to me on my big toe. Very painful. Mine grew back without problems or pain. If you experience pain while the nail is growing back, see a doctor. Pain is a sign of infection or a problem with the direction of the nail growth.
After a month or so, the skin of the nailbed becomes tough and the pain subsides. My nail grew back completely in just 4 months.
Just a tip too! Ibuprofen helped with the pain. Make sure to air it out as well, moisture is a breeding ground for bacteria.
Good luck!
