Should People That Are Away From Home A Great Deal Own Pets

Dogs (pets): Can a dog stay home alone for 12 hours?

Realistically, 6 hours and more is not reasonable for a young dog.I personally do not feel that an adult dog should be alone or even alone with another dog more than an 8 hour work day. Dogs are pack animals and definitely need interaction. I would say 8 hours is pushing it. Remember that you sleep for a further 8 hours, making it more than 65% of the time that your dog is alone. Then you start to include date nights, going out with your friends, shopping late after work, overtime... you start to see that your dog spends like 80%+ of its time completely alone or with another dog and not able to go out and do anything. The yard or house is interesting to a dog for about 2 minutes, then its not new. This is really miserable for the poor guys.My personal opinion is that unless you have multiple people in the house on different shifts/always home or work part time, unfortunately a dog is just not for you.Other animals do much better with solitude. Cats, obviously. I know some people have pre-conceived notions of cats but they can be great companion animals.

Is it ok to leave you dog home alone for 2 or 3 days?????!!!!!!!!?

Your parents are right not to allow you to take the dog on vacation. Dogs are much more comfortable at home in their own surroundings. As long as you have a fenced yard and the dog has access to food, water and shelter (preferably a dog house or garage), there is no reason you can't leave the dog alone for two or three days, or even longer. The problem is food. If you don't have an automatic feeder, you would have to leave a great deal of food available and as you know, dogs wolf down their food and will eat as much as you give them.

I've left dogs alone for as much as a week at the time. They had a comfortable dog house with blankets, more than an acre of fenced grounds in which to exercise, and I left a container of water beneath a dripping faucet and I have an automatic feeder. They were just fine.

@Moondog: No one is going to be prosecuted for "abandonment of an animal" if the dog has food, water and shelter! You are way out of line making such statements when you have no idea what you're talking about!

Have you had a beloved dog or any animal pass away in your home? please read for question?

We have had several pets die in our home. We alway take them to the vet and have them cremated. That way they can come home with us.. I know what happens when you leave the bodys at the vets office and I refuse to let that happen with my pets. I pay for private cremation and pick their remains up at a later date.

It is very hard to lose a pet. We lost one in fed. It is very sad but you have to remember the good times and move on with life. If you believe you will see them again later On Rainbow Bridge

Is there any boarding school in the US that allows dogs? Please!?

I am looking to adopt a German Shepherd before i go to a boarding school.... I want to know which boarding schools to look in to that allow big dogs like them... I want it to be a High School.. PLEASE ANYONE! I would also be willing to go to one in the UK if neccessary.

What pet should I own?

Write down all the things that you want in a pet. Make sure these are qualities that are real and not just stereotypes. Don’t attach these things to a particular kind of pet. Just list the qualities. There is a great deal to consider, so take time to really think about this, and try not to let your biases or preconceptions color your true thoughts, wants, and needs.Answer the following questions in your notes:Will you be able to live with pet hair, a litter box, scooping poop from the yard or on a walk (cats can go on walks too), and the occasional wear-and-tear caused by pets? How much space do you have inside and outside your home? Do you have a fenced yard? Will you want an outdoor enclosure (a catio or better fencing) so your pet can spend time safely outdoors? How much time do you have to spend with a pet? No matter what pet you choose, you need to make sure you have the time. It isn’t true that cats are okay spending most of their day alone. They need at least 15 minutes of play twice a day (more for a kitten or young cat), and they need snuggle time or relaxing time just to be with you (at least 3 hours, but ideally more). What is your activity level? Are you sedentary or physically active?Do you have the financial resources if your pet has a medical crisis and has high veterinary bills?Do you have someone who can be a secondary caregiver if you are away from home? If not, how will you provide care for your pet when you travel? This is another huge difference between cats and dogs. You can have your dog stay with friends or family, but a cat is strongly bonded to its territory (your home), so you will have to find someone to come to your home to feed the cat, play with the cat, and just hang out for an hour or so every day.Make a list of things you don’t want in a pet. Remember to write down your reasoning. When you have an idea of what kind of pet you want, go to the animal shelter and meet dogs and cats. Ask lots of questions about anything that comes to mind.If you aren’t sure about which pet you would prefer, then try fostering a cat or dog (or other animal) for a few months, then fostering another kind for a few months. This can be a great way to figure out if an animal will really fit into your life.

In your opinion, are cats or dogs better? Why?

It really depends on your lifestyle, what you value in a pet, your time commitment, etc....  Some people decide to get both.  Here are some things to think about.  (I'm not a big cat person, so I may have some cat facts wrong).Advantages of Dogs:Dogs are always happy to see you. They yearn for your affection, will follow you around the house, and will come when called. They are loyal and really enjoy your company.Dogs are more trainable.  Teaching them to do tricks is fun, although it does take some time investment.Dogs are great activity partners.  You can take them running, hiking, and walking in off-leash areas (some beaches and parks allow your dog to roam free). It's awesome having a running partner who's ready to go whenever you are.Dogs can be hypoallergenic.  If you have allergies, you can find breeds of dogs that don't shed.  Cats like to clean themselves a lot, and the saliva dries up and turns into allergy-inducing dander.Dogs are good alarm systems.  I feel safer knowing our dogs will alert us if there are intruders, especially the evil possums and squirrels.  I think I read a study somewhere that said neighborhoods with dogs have a lower chance of break-ins.Puppies are cute.Advantages of Cats:Cats are lower maintenance.  You don't need to take them on walks or runs to keep them happy and healthy.  You can also leave town for a weekend, and the cat will feed, water, and clean up after itself.  You'll need to board the dog if you're going anywhere.Cats don't require training.  If you don't have time to teach your dog good behavior, you're going to have a tough time with bad behavior.  Cats, on the other hand, naturally do the right thing (in general).  Also, cats aren't really trainable, so it's a moot point.Cats don't smell bad.  Most dogs do (not our labradoodles -- they usually smell like teddy bears).Cats don't need a yard.  Having a yard and doggy door is more convenient for dog owners.  Cats are good to go with their litter boxes.Cats don't bark.  They do, however, have a wretched meow when they're in heat.Kittens are cute.

Please give me REAL proof that Cesar Millan's clients supposedly get more aggressive.?

Thank you catfood for providing me a link that deals with the topic instead of boohooing like the other 4 anti-Cesar posters!!
Unfortunately, it says the server is down at the moment so I couldn't read the article, and I only have one day left to be able to see it. DX
I appologise if I couldn't read it before I choose Best Answer, but I will make sure I read it once it's up again. (:
(crossing my fingers that the article is not something you just Googled up in 10 seconds because I've done Googling before posting this question)

Thank you Jojo for giving me a link to such a WONDERFUL article about Cesar! Wow, I had always thought that the reason Dog Whisperer was cancelled was because the producers got tired of the bullshit the anti-people chuck at them. That's really sad that they lost Cesar's trust because it was such a great show. ):
Ewww @ Cesar's perfume was wet dog. XDDDDD
I loved this article and wish to translate it to Japanese some time for the Japa
