Should We Put My Dog To Sleep

Should i put my dog to sleep forever?

You need to take him to the vets to get the ticks removed, he will be in pain and irritable because of the ticks biting into his flesh and sucking his blood, he could also have a skin infection from the ticks. They need removing, if you try to do it yourself then you could leave the heads inside him and make it even worse. Then you need to treat regularly with Frontline, then if any ticks get a hold of him they will die and drop off.
Once he is free of the ticks, you will see a difference in his behaviour, don't just condemn him to death, cure the problem, if you still don't want your dog then find a new home for him and give him a chance, .

I am torn about putting my dog to sleep..?

He is a 17 yr old Boston Terrier, He is incontinent of bowel and bladder, he has cancer in his bladder, and has tumors on his right hip/ sternum, he limps when he walks, has been falling, can't do steps, limps when he walks, some blood in the stool, seems to be hurting more, getting up every hour on the hour at night. We are not sleeping because he is always needing to go out at night. I need reassurance that I am doing the right thing. He has been such an important and special member of our family for the last 8 yrs, before that I got him from one of my hospice patient's when she died.

My mom wants to put my dog to sleep?

So I have a 12 year' old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. He's really, really skinny, he has always been skinny but he has even gotten more skinnier. He has a lot of problems chewing his food, because his teeth are rotten. (We already give him food that is easier to eat for him) We have talked to the doctor about cleaning his teeth etc. but he said that if we do that he may not wake up. (It's really expensive so my parents don't want to risk our dog dying and spending money for nothing). He's always sleeping and doesn't want to get up for walks anymore. Sometimes when he's awake he get's really active again. (Especially when there is food on the table.) He starts barking really loudly and that really annoys my parents. (He has a very loud, high pitched bark). He does come for hugs every now and then and then I give him love but most of the time he's just sleeping and is too tired to get up. (Even when I'm offering him dog treats)

So the reason why my mom wants to put him to sleep is because he really stinks and keeps peeing and pooping all over the house. Most likely because he's getting old and can't hold it very well. (We do take him for walks at least 4 times a day). She thinks he's not enjoying his life anymore anyway, and that it is better for him to be put to sleep.

Anyways, I kind of disagree. Because sometimes he can be very happy and I think it's just.. If you buy a dog then you should take care of him until the end, right? Or is my mom right? Is it better to put him to sleep?

What do you think? What would you do in this situation?
Sorry that it's so long by the way..

Is it okay to put dog to sleep for grooming?

Is your dog mean? if not your dog should not be put to sleep to groom the only time we put dogs to sleep to groom is when they are mean and try to bite us it is common practice for some groomers they just want to charger more i would go to another groomer or ask the one you go to now why they what to do it and befor you but your dog to sleep it would be a good idea to chech with your vet to make sure your dog is heathly .

We had to put our dog to sleep due to a stroke and wondered if we made the right decision?

Sorry i meant 30th August 2009.

Thank you all for your kind words. No one knows what it feels like to lose a dog until you have done so yourself. I will eventually get another dog but it will never be a replacement for Kip. The hardest thing is coming home to an empty house with no Kip here to meet me at the door. Its amazing how you can miss being woken up at 6:30am by him moaning cause he needs a wee! I even miss having to walk him everyday. I am sure he is up in doggy heaven and happy as he could ever be!

Should I put my diabetic blind dog to sleep?

Where is this thought of putting her down coming from? Is it really because your dog's life is bothering you more than it's bothering the dog? If she wags her tail ever that means she can still be happy and should live. It sounds like you are looking for relief because she has come to be a burden to you in some way, maybe if not financially or physically, but emotionally. Emotional, in the sense that it's bugging you because you think she is not active like she used to be. And you are asking someone else to make that decision for you so it can ease your guilt if you put her down.
Try not to think of yourself, or your thoughts, think of how the dog feels. Is she happy? Does she still wag her tail? Does she cry often? Does she get excited when you come home? When dogs are older, even if they're not blind and diabetic, they do slow down and often don't want to play with the other animals in the home. They want to relax in their later years, they like just basking in the sun. Could you imagine if your grandma or your mom was elderly and went blind 2 years ago and was diabetic, that you were thinking of putting her down? Would that be good?
I don't think you should put your dog down if she experiences some joy or content in her life.

What can I give my dog to make him sleep so I can trim his nails?

Take him for some exercise, give him a nice warm meal, let him go to sleep and just clip a nail or two while he is sleeping. You do not have to pick up his paw, just ease a paw out from under him and clip the tip of the nail. Do as many as you can and then repeat this every few days.

If he is sleepy enough he won't care. Many dogs just do not like having their paws handled possibly because it puts them off balance. This way, the only pressure he feels is a little bit on the nail.

You can then work on desensitizing him to having them handled by giving him some really nice treats while picking up each of his paws. You can then move on to handling the nails and then cutting them.

In the meantime, instead of trying to get them all at once every few weeks, you can do them every few days a little clip at a time. The quick gets shorter as the nail gets shorter so by clipping just a little each time, you have less of a risk of hitting the quick.

Another alternative is to shop around for a groomer who can do it for you. Dogs act differently around different people so you may find one that works.
