Should You Go To College If You Don

Are you a loser if you don't go to college?

To some people, of course. Some people equate being successful in life with having a college degree. To me it is ridiculous to say that if you don’t have college education you suck and in reverse - if you have college education you don’t suck. But some people are so convinced that college degree is the secret to a happy life that they won't listen to this. And I won’t listen to them.It really depends on what you believe in. What is your definition of success. The danger of thinking that college education is a must-have for anyone to be able to have any kind of success in life is that if you’re not fortunate enough to have been through college, or if you didn't go to college because you had other ideas, as young people often do, and your plan didn’t pan out (as is very often the case) and you’re suddenly in your late 20s / early 30s, and you don’t have the resources that would enable you to go to college, or you’re convinced that it’s too late, then you’re really doomed. The lack of college education will become your favorite excuse in life and the most frequently told lie. You will assume that your life is miserable precisely because you didn’t go to college, which will be a bullshit story in your head. And all those who believe that college education is a magic bullet and a must-have for any kind of success in life will conclude that this bullshit about college degree being this crucial ingredient of success is actually true. They will look at you and people like you and say “See! That’s the consequence of not going to college.” And they will really believe this nonsense. They will not look at what else could have been done. No. College education is missing and that’s the reason. To me they’re just morons. If you believe those who tell you that people without college education are losers then (unless you have college education) you will think of yourself as a loser. And you’ll be f*cked.

So I don't want to go to college....what should I do?

First of all, whether or not you plan on going to college, you should stay on top of your school work and try to make the best grades you possibly can. That way, if you change your mind for ANY reason, you have decent grades and can still get into school and hopefully secure scholarship dollars. You might find a school or conservatory that "fits" you perfectly, or have some other reason to change your mind years and years from now.

The other things is that you should start getting work experience. As an actress, you might have to do a lot of side work to pay the bills. At 15/16 don't worry about getting a career, just a solid work history with employers who will give you good references later. The longer you work, the easier it is to get work if you need to change jobs or get a second or third job.

Finally, try finding some acting experience now. Hopefully, you'll be discovered, but at the very least you'll be getting experience and building a good resume so that you can get better and better acting gigs as you get older. You might not end up a movie actress, but you might be a big deal one day in some small-theater scene.

Good luck.

Should you go to college even if you don't know what you want to do?

It depends. If you got into a good school and received a good financial aid package, I would say yes definitely go for it. Pick a marketable major like CS and start. If you don’t like the major change, you’ll have a solid foundation in math, science, and writing. You’ll have a structured learning around to continue to push you even if you feel lost. You’ll meet plenty of people who are also looking for their path in life, and it will make your path seem less scary, which will allow you to try new things and experiment, ultimately figure yourself out. You can continue to explore who you are and what you want your whole life, but spending a few years working at department store/ coffee shop etc. while you figure things out is a waste of time. Going to college doesn’t stop you from doing things that you want to do you, you’ll just have to be more frugal with you time. When I hear this question, it usually comes with a undertone some money issues. If you’re wondering if it is a waste of money, it is not if it’s a marketable major like STEM majors. If you can’t get into a good school and get financial aid, I would say resort to more creative methods. Ex: teach yourself to code, how to make YouTube videos, start a business, fail, learn, repeat. I would say the lack of structure in this option makes this harder than just working hard because it is very easy to just sit back and not do anything without the sense of urgency like exams.Whatever you do, don’t do nothing. Have a plan, execute, learn.

I don't want to go to college after graduating?

After years of stressing, pulling my hair out, not enjoying my life even a little bit, and severe depression, I've decided that I probably don't want to go to college/university. After next year, I'm graduating. I'll be 16, and I'll have to figure out what I want to do with my life by then or my mom will force me to go to college (she's not letting me leave the house or live with my father who's much more progressive until I'm 18, which I hate.) I never really wanted to go to college, even when I was younger, because I didn't find the replaying of stressing over school adding debt and a boring work life much fun. I'm going to start my own business while my mom is making me stay at home and see how it goes, but I don't want to tell her that I'm considering not going to college because I know she'll tell me I'm making a big mistake and that I'll regret it. People say that college isn't the same as high school, but people told me that high school would be better than middle school, middle school would be better than elementary, etc. Are they right? Will I regret that choice? Will it be better than high school, or will I be spending four years stressing about money and grades all over again? I'd rather off myself than go through that again, I honestly hate school, and want nothing to do with the people and schools where I live once I leave it.
