Should You Go To The Doctor If You Experience Panic Attacks

Panic attacks?

i really need help. i have panic attacks regularly (well, more irregularly but on a regular basis if that makes any sense...) and they are making my life so hard. i just started a new job that i LOVE and today i had to drive an hour away from my work for the orientation...which wasn't bad, i had a few minor attacks while there (it was an 8 hour session) but nothing really notable...until the ride home and i FREAKED out. i felt like i was going crazy...i started to cry and i couldn't hold it in any longer and i threw up and i kept making my co-worker who had driven our agency van, pull over and i ran away from the van and laid in the snow wishing i could just get hit by a truck...now i have 2 more days of training and i'm not sure i can do it...i can't go back to work. i made a fool of myself. she was really understanding but that doesn't make it any less embaricing...i guess my question is...what should i do? i'm so scared of being scared. the only thing i haven't tried is meds.

Have you ever had a panic attack?

I would recommend you go to the doctor because by not eating and exercising as much as you are, that can lead to health problems, including gynecological problems like losing your period, which actually happened to me when I was your age. When you are exercising it is very important that you take care of yourself and eat right. You may want to even go to a nutritionist if you want to eat healthy. If you are concerned it could be a panic attack, it is good to go to the doctor about that as well. I had a panic attack once before and I had similar symptoms like a rapid heart beat. I was so worried there was something wrong with my heart because it was beating so fast. I got it all checked out and the relief of knowing it was a panic attack and was in my mind alleviated my anxiety and I have not had one since. So if you have not been diagnosed with having a panic attack, I recommend you go to the doctor because only a doctor can diagnose that and you may want to rule out any health problems.

Why do I have panic attacks?

Chances are your mono and panic attacks are unrelated. Panic attacks are VERY common and occur because of lots of different things for lots of different people. They are often times triggered by something, even if you don't realize what it is. But the general thought is that something triggers a panic attack to start, so your heart beats faster, your breathing rate increases, you start to sweat, you get really nervous etc. This makes you think there is something wrong and you start to get more and more worried, which increases your heart rate, breathing rate and sweating, nervousness! It's a vicious cycle. Sometimes people can talk themselves down from a panic attack, but other times they require medication. I would recommend that if they are causing you worry you should consult a doctor and ask about possible treatments. It will be really beneficial in the long run!

Do I go to the doctors and seek help for my panic attacks? It only happens when I fear I’m going to be sick.

Yes! Panic attacks are so distressing and can affect day to day activies. I suffer from anxiety and Panic attacks are one of the worst symptoms! Like you, whenever i feel as if i might throw up my body goes into panic and i cant function properly. It happens in the most inappropriate times! It can be so embarassing. Can you have a panic attack in your sleep?

I have been having bad panic attacks lately. I now know when Im going to have one because I get this weird feeling in my hands right before it starts. But I never had one in my sleep. I woke up to what it felt like someone put an IV of ice cold water in my arms. I thought it was because I slept on my arms so I waited about twenty minutes for the feeling to go away. When it didn't, I started to panic and the cold feeling went into my chest so I started screaming I was having a heart attack. Everyone in my family knows about the panic attacks I have so they calmed me down and said I wasn't having a heart attack. Turns out it wasn't a heart attack, but was it a panic attack? Can you have one come on even when you are sleeping? Just typing this is making the tingling feelings I get in my hands come.

Panic attack medicine??

I know exactly what your are exeriencing and it's extremely miserable. Your psychiatrist will be the best judge for the right type of medicine. You may have to take a medication to help this chemical imbalance, just as a diabetic must take insulin. Makes sre you give your doctor complete details of what you experience, when it happens, etc. Leave nothing out so they are able to properly diagnose you. The great news is there is medication that eliminates these attacks. You may start and feel fine or the medication might not help at all. Everyones body is different and reacts differenty to meds. SO what is wonderful for one peron, may not help another. You must report any and all concerns to your doctor. If you notice a problem and keep an open dialogue then the medication is adjusted correctly for you. You will become a new person and the relief is overwhelming! I hope you get to experience the relief right away, as I know first hand how lonely and scary these attacks are. You are very smart recognizing this and seeking treatment. Best of luck to you.

How often do you have anxiety attacks?

If you are wondering about the reason for your attacks, the best thing to do is have it checked. Thoroughly. Don’t go around wondering if there could be another cause. It only increases the tension. You get nervous that you will receive another attack, and in the end: You’ll get another attack because you are afraid you will get one. It will also be stronger because you are uncertain about what it is.At least this was my experience. It’s an evil circle. You have to be able to reason with yourself, without it sounding like empty self-help advice. And if you think it might be something else than anxiety, it’s hard to convince yourself that it’s true. You need to be able to say things like: “It’s just anxiety, I’m not dying, it’s not dangerous. All I have to do is breathe slow long breaths, and it will pass.”, and you have to believe yourself.I used to have attacks that were strong enough that I fainted. My last real attack was several years ago. I still get signs of them, in stressful situations, but now I can feel them coming. And take precautions. Usually all I need to do; Is excuse myself, and take a short trip to the bathroom and breathe for a minute. Otherwise just go out for some air, if I am in a public place or at a party. That said, I have been 7 years in treatment for this. It took time to get better. Time and exposure. So when you think there is something wrong with you, have it checked at your doctors office. If you need a second opinion, get that, too. Do not however, go around at home, worrying there might be something worse ailing you.And good luck with everything.

When do I know when to go to the doctor for anxiety?

Hello Trinity -Thank you for requesting my answer to this. Anxiety is a topic that I am constantly researching and understanding it is a bigger problem than society lets on unfortunately. From my personal experience, I decided to “suck in my ego” and finally take the step to see a therapist when it really became obvious that my anxiety was preventing me from going after a lot of my goals and where it felt like every single action was a dilemma even to the point, where it meant leaving my house to enjoy my time with my friends. When I felt like I could not operate and really when years would go by with me not being forceful in not attempting to go after my goals, that was when it was time.Understand, or at least try to understand where your levels of anxiety is, and if it is seriously affecting your decisions and life day to day. It is one thing to have an “anxiety episode” once in a while, it is another thing to truly affecting you day to day. Im 28 now, did it when I was 26 and it transformed me.When it does, that is when you should seek someone to help. Trust me, do your research, find a great one and they will help you see things more clearly.
