Should You Worry About Light Scratches On The Plastic On Your Laptop

Is there any way to remove scratches on my camera lens?

First of all, as long as the scratch is not dead center of the lens then it may not be all that bad. Check by taking some shots in various lighting situations.  Look for flare (kind of a general haze of light) in the portion of photo corresponding to the scratches.  If you don't see anything then you can safely ignore the scratches.  If you do, try shooting with a lens hood to see if that helps. There are two tricks if you want to do something about the scratches.  One is is to touch up the scratches with a black permanent marker.  (You may want to try this first with a black dry erase marker which can be cleaned with rubbing alcohol.) The idea is to suppress the flare due to the scratches.  I did these years ago with a an old lens that had been banging around in the bottom of the camera bag, and it worked ok.The second trick (which I haven't tried) is go to an auto parts store (like NAPA, Autozone, Pep Boys, etc.),  get some windshield scratch remover, and touch up the scratch. It won't perfectly match the index of refraction, but should be a cosmetic fix.

How did you feel when you first scratched your new car and how did you deal with the depression?

I still remember the joy of getting my first car and the eventful day that followed after it was scratched with a week. Some kids decided to use my brand new black SUV as their writing board, and practiced alphabets on the sides and wrote a big “CAR” on the bonnet with stones. They also put a couple of Spiderman stickers on each of the head-lights to add to their exterior design. I was on my way to work when I saw it, enraged I scolded my apartment security, made the supervisor apologize. Then on my way to the repair shop I lost my cool due to a bunch of idiots, got into road-rage followed by an accident. At the end of the day I found myself in a police station with a Rs.15000 ($300) expenditure. You can read more about it here: What is the strangest reason a person has ever crashed a vehicle?I had knowingly crashed my vehicle as I was very outraged by the scratches, in a moment of rage I decided to let my vehicle have as many scratches and dents it can, and vented my anger by crashing it into another vehicle. Following it, I got various advice on moral and public behavior by family and friends, advice on how not to value materialistic stuff so much that it could get me into trouble, but I was in early 20’s and it all sounded like crap! The crash acted as a medicine, I wasn’t as depressed anymore but felt sorry for what I did. I got everything repaired and got it into as good as new condition, and got over it.By time and experience everyone develops wisdom, 10 years later today I understand cars will always get scratched at some point of time, so learn to live with it, if it hurts, get it fixed. Especially when the wife drives the new Mercedes into a side walk putting some scuffs on the rims on the way back from showroom, and you have to laugh it off.. that’s wisdom!

Which kind of plastic is the average laptop made of?Have a toshiba, would like to repaint..does vinyl dye do?

Most laptops are made from CFRP

Carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP or CRP), is a very strong, light and expensive composite material or fiber reinforced plastic. Similar to glass-reinforced plastic, sometimes known by the genericised trademark fiberglass, the composite material is commonly referred to by the name of its reinforcing fibers (carbon fiber). The plastic is most often epoxy, but other plastics, such as polyester, vinyl ester or nylon, are also sometimes used. Some composites contain both carbon fiber and other fibres such as kevlar, aluminium and fiberglass reinforcement. The terms graphite-reinforced plastic or graphite fiber reinforced plastic (GFRP) are also used but less commonly, since glass-(fibre)-reinforced plastic can also be called GFRP.

It has many applications in aerospace and automotive fields, as well as in sailboats, and notably in modern bicycles and motorcycles, where its high strength to weight ratio is of importance. Improved manufacturing techniques are reducing the costs and time to manufacture making it increasingly common in small consumer goods as well, such as laptop computers, tripods, fishing rods, paintball equipment, racquet sports frames, stringed instrument bodies, classical guitar strings, and drum shells.

FOR PAINTING...

I'd advise accrylic paint and seal it with a clear polyurethane coat (you can either paint it on or buy a spray can). That is what I used for my computer case and my guitarsI would also suggest spray as result will b smoother. The seal will give it a glossy look, which you may or may not find desirable, but it will substantially increase the strength of the coat, making it resistant to scratches.

Don't try to paint it like normal stuff, that is use masking tape and all that. Disassemble your computer until you have the casing itself separated then paint it without having to worry about the little LEDs and screen and stuff.

How to get rid of scratches on laptop?

I have an original Dell skin (actually hard plastic covering) on one of my 3 Dell Notebook PCs just to keep it in LIKE NEW CONDITON. One of my older Dell Notebook PCs I bought an original Dell replacement lid <= top cover when closwed but haven't taken the time to retrieve the Service Manual and then patiently uninstall/install the replacement lid.

You might try automobile wax or polish too lightly remove scratches not too deep...

Hope the Above Info Helps!

How effective is using a hard shell case for a laptop (such as a Mac)? Would most programmers consider it a necessary purchase?

I have a 2012 MBPR, and I had the good sense to buy a Speck hard shell case shortly after my purchase.Fast forward into roughly four years later, in 2016, I pried open the case for the first time since I've attached it. The Speck case is mighty worn now. And it did take some difficulty to pry loose the case off top, but when it came free, I saw that the surface was pristine as ever. Not much of any gunk either. TBH, I don't think it would have had the same smoothness had I not used a hard shell case.Prior to the MBPR, I've used an older aluminum-finish Macbook, which was bare and didn't have a hard case at all. Only a few weeks into using it casually, the top and bottom finish had degraded noticeably with scratches here and there. You'd hope they'd be stuff you could just wipe off, but no, they're actually scratches on the metal. Having to look at the scratched surface would make any owner wince. If it weren't too prone to scratches and dings, I'd let my MBPR go bare, since a case hides so much of the beauty. But really, a hard case offers the needed protection for when you want to resell, or for when you don't want to cringe at the sight of scratched aluminum.

Scratch on an LCD Glossy Screen?

I know of no way to repair damaged LCD surfaces.

The "plastic" that is used is very, very soft and will show scratches and/or abrasions even if you use a kleenex to clean your screen.

I just got a new 24" inch monitor and the recommended method of cleaning is with a pure soft cotton rag or a micro fiber cloth and nothing but luke warm water and to be gentle as you can damage the monitor with pressure also.

Hope this helps.

What can scratch Aluminum?? Like on the new MacBook?

I recently gotten the new MacBook, and I am a bit paranoid. My question is what can scratch Aluminum? Because the new Macbook's have that Aluminum shell. I'm just worried if for some odd reason I can scratch it with my fingernail, watch, metal pen, etc. Thanks for your help.

How do I identify whether it is my screen protector or my screen that is scratched without taking it off?

I tend to try to look for the depth of the scratch. It's not as effective as checking with your fingernail, like everyone else pointed out, but if the line looks deeper then there's a stronger chance of it being a crack. Also, if you have a screen protector on and have a cracked screen it's probably going to run completely from one edge to another instead of just being a small line that runs partially across the screen.

Is there any need of tempered glass or screen guard on gorilla glass 4?

If your phone is equipped with Gorilla glass, then a tempered glass is unnecessary. Get a good armor case instead. People give all kinds of lame explanations for buying tempered glass saying that it won't hurt spending 200 rupees to protect a 40000 rupee phone. The fact of the matter is that it is not required. When we drop a phone that is equipped with tempered glass, we usually find the tempered glass cracked. And then we thank our stars. “Thank God I had tempered glass!” This is faulty reasoning at its best. Just because the tempered glass cracked, it doesn't mean that your gorilla glass would have had the same fate had the protection been not there. The truth is that had there been no tempered glass, nothing would have cracked. Probably the edges of the phone.Gorilla glass needs sand or harder materials to get scratched. Unless you keep loose diamonds or cubic boron nitride granules in your pocket, you're not gonna scratch the gorilla glass. And although tempered glass is harder than most glass varieties, it isn't harder than gorilla glass itself.Spend the money on a good armor case, preferably a branded one. Spigen makes some good armors that you'd want to check out. Don't spend your cash on tempered glass just because everybody has one!!
