Siberian Husky For A First Timer In A Hot Country

Is it convenient to raise a Siberian husky puppy in a hot country like Egypt?

The word “convenient” is key here.If you are worried that it might be inconvenient, due to the fact that a Siberian husky is a heavy-coated dog, bred for living in snow, and prone to overheating in hot weather… then your answer is obvious. Yes. It can be inconvenient. If you never feel inconvenienced by the hot climate of Egypt, that is: you live in a relatively refrigerated, temperature-controlled environment, maintained at around 73°f, and that's where your Siberian husky would be living as well, then you have nothing to worry about.Just don't make the mistake of thinking that you can leave your dog outside EVER.

Can you train a Siberian Husky to NOT run away?

Nope. Found out I was doing well when I could turn it into a casual stroll. Both of us here would have had a heart attack already if we lived around major traffic. It's absolutely terrifying when they take off around a road. Don't recommend anyone gambling this way, but what worked best was running directly away from. Then it became of game of tag instead of keep away. Most embarrassing was when our female jumped out of car window in a state park, with a 20 foot lead on. She headed off into the hinter lands. After about 45 minutes of hard walking, we heard the steps of a horse. Was a mounted ranger being led by our blue-eyed gal, wasn't cited but I, myself got a major butt chewing. Last couple years before our female passed, she would stay close. We have enough room to run on, and I couldnt trust her to behave. As mentioned by others here, huskies have a very strong hunting instinct. It's explosive to the point where a chance cant be taken.

The thing to understand about a Husky is, there is only one place in the world they want to be.
That place is anywhere else than the very spot they're standing in.

Bernese mountain dog vs. siberian husky ?

for a young woman who is going into college, lives in an apartment at the time but in about a year will have a house with her fiance, and has a about a year but is going to graduate and have kids, and wants to get a puppy as soon as possible, which dog breed best suits her? since childhood she has always loved siberian huskies and how beautiful they are, but isn't sure if she can handle how rambunctious they are. She also likes the look of the Bernese mountain dog and likes their personalities alot. she wants to get a puppy and raise it in her apartment and then in about a year she would move into a house with her fiance and start a family, which one of these dog breeds would be best suitable for this lifestyle?

Can I own a Siberian Husky in a “warmer climate” city?

Huskies are bred to withstand very cold climates. That said, the fur that insulates against cold also insulates them from heat. My Husky prefers the yard to the house and on hot days digs a nice spot under the trees and bushes. When I feel her coat and her head she is cool as a cucumber. The important thing is for them to have a cool spot in the shade, plenty of water, and a natural coat. The coat helps them so most breeders will tell you NOT to shave a husky. You do need to brush and groom them well to get rid of shed hair. The lighter the Husky’s color, the better for them, whites or grays, for when you walk them in the sun. Also, pay attention to their feet and walk them on grass or dirt and not on concrete or asphalt. Some Huskies like kiddy pools and I have seen some people put ice in them as a special treat for their Husky. All said, it the the quality of care they receive rather than the climate. Shut any dog up in a confined hot space on a hot day and it will suffer and eventually die. A Husky would probably die before a chihuahua would, but it is cruel and abusive in either case. I live in Connecticut, but the summer gets hot here and Sally can come into the air conditioned house whenever she wants. She will come in and say hi, look for a snack and then go right back outside.

Can Siberian Huskies stay healthy in hot weather?

My brothers got me a husky for a Christmas present, and he is 10 weeks old. I am worried because i live near the south and it gets really hot outside during spring, summer, and even in the winter time it gets warm.(rarely)
I was just wondering if my dog can maintain healthy in hot weather. if he cant, then wat are some ideas to keep him cool? i cannot have him living in the house becuz I have heard that they shed a lot. I was thinking of maybe getting him an inflatable pool to be in when he gets hot.
plz answer, thanks

Best enclosure for Siberian Husky?

You just need to dog proof your yard. High fences that cannot be scaled & fixed at the bottom with chicken wire to prevent digging. If the dog is a jumper, you can get 'no jumping' harnesses to prevent his jumping. The chicken wire at the bottom will stop any digging. But REMEMBER they are escape artists.

Yes, I think a solid fence would be better than wire. Wire can be seen through & temptation lays just on the other side. Look up 'dog proofing your yard'.

I dog proofed my yard years ago when I was housing PPD dogs & then I started rescuing dogs & I sure was glad I had already dog proofed the yard. One of those guys getting out could cause some problems.

Are Siberian huskies immune to electricity?

Not immune, but the "prize" (your birds) is worth the jolt to the dog. They will ignore most hot wires and electric fences, and can easily scale most chain link fences. They are escape artists with a high prey drive. Having said that, it is your neighbor's responsibility to contain their dog. That means a husky proof fence, one with wire buried underground to prevent digging, b or more feet of chain link, with "coyote runners" installed on top. You have discussed it with the neighbors, and now it's time for you to take more action. Get the dog and tie it up, then call animal control to come and get it. They will be fined for having a free roaming dog, and if you live in an area where you can have chickens, they tend to take a very dim view of dogs who harass livestock If the dog won't allow you to catch it, then call animal control when it comes, take a PICTURE to document it, and report it along with the name and address of your neighbor. They can then either choose to properly confine the dog, or surrender it to a rescue where they will find the dog a home willing to provide for the needs of a husky including a suitable fence.

Will a Siberian Husky live in Dubai?

Actually, contrary to popular belief, the huskies thick coat insulates against heat and cold. I have known siberians that live in Texas, and are perfectly content.

However, they cannot be excersised in the extreme heat of the day, like most dogs.

Have you done your research on siberians, though? They are not just a pretty face, and they need a ton of work. Not a good choice for first time dog owners.

Good Luck!

I like siberian husky, beagle and golden retriever. Which one is the best to be around with babies and friendliest to strangers? What do you choose?

Hands down the Golden Retriever, but if you are expecting, then get an adult who has been raised around babies/small children. Raising a baby and a Golden Retriever puppy is a lot to take on together. And never ever ever leave a child younger than five-six years old with any dog. Even a Gentle Golden Retriever can accidentally mistaken a youngster for another dog and play too roughly or fail to recognize boundaries and knock your little one over. Children before the age of five-ish don't smell like us; just as puppies have their own puppy breath to signal infant status to the pack, babies and toddlers also do not smell human and might inspire less appropriate behavior.
