Sickness From Playing Video Games

Are you okay with your kid playing video games while they are sick?

Yes, my kids can play video games when they are sick. It's not much different than watching TV. I play when I'm sick. Watching TV for hours on end is boooooring. I had a nasty case of strep throat for a month (and I'm allergic to most medications used to treat it, so it would keep coming back), and then was hit with a nasty flu immediately after for two week - six weeks of being stuck in bed or barely functioning. I would have gone insane without my games!

And I think at 14, you are perfectly capable of playing a video game while ill, and will know if you are too tired and need to sleep.

How can I avoid sickness and headaches after playing video games for too many hours?

Back lighting your TV can help eye strain, or just generally playing in a lighted room.Take frequent breaks, stretch and drink water during these, don’t look at any screens for at least 5 minutes. If you’re doing a long session, plan a workout in the middle of it. The endorphins and the longer break from the screen can work wonders. You can also try standing/squatting while playing instead of sitting.

Motion sickness while playing video games?

Ever since I was little I get motion sickness from video games. I don't get it from 2D games. I get it really bad from 3D shooter games- particularly Black Ops 2. I don't play them myself, but I'm always being subjected to it by being in the same room as someone who is. I end up leaving the room nauseous and dizzy.

Years ago someone said it was my eyes, that they weren't able to focus as fast as the game was moving. I do wear glasses but it doesn't help at all. I've tried the chewing gum trick, eating, all the lights on, and the other night I broke out the Dramamine.

I think the Dramamine worked. I felt my right eye get stuck on the background graphic until it disappeared (I was running the person around trying to induce the sickness I normally get), but I didn't get nauseous from it. The game I was using (Red Dead Redemption) doesn't make me too nauseaus while playing, so I really don't know if the Dramamine was working. I am going to test it tomorrow while at my Mom's, my sister is bad about flinging the in-game camera and making me seasick.

It seems rather silly to take medicine just to play a video game, or to save myself from feeling yucky when someone else is playing it in the same room as me. I don't like taking medicines personally. Is there anything else I could try?

Why do I feel sick when playing video games?

Sometimes, I experience the same thing. According to the source that I found, sitting farther away from the screen so that it doesn't fill your field of vision. Also, experience often helps you get over it. It seems that after enough exposure to dizzying graphics, your brain learns that you don't die from poison every time you play a first-person shooter, and it lets you enjoy your fun. This works for me, though sitting farther away will be inconvenient for some games. It doesn't always happen to me so I just do it when I feel sick. I got used to it eventually.

Video game motion sickness?

I get a very sick feeling when playing first person shooters like the Call of Duty series. I find that odd since I love roller coasters, thrill rides and I was in the military and on the water a lot with no sea sickness. Is there any cure for this?

Feeling sick while playing video game?

okay I don't know if this really happens to anyone else. but sometimes whenever i play video games i feel sick it doesn't hurt but it disturbs my stomach I feel like I'm going to puke but that doesn't happen it makes my head feel dizzy and it's just a weird feeling that happens whenever i play video games like rainbow six and splinter cell.

What is the best video game to play while sick?

Really depends on how sick you are. If you're running back and forth to the bathroom to pray to the porcelain god then online games are out. You need something you can pause. So that cuts out all multi-player online games except maybe mmo's like war craft where it's normal for people to go afk in important situations (curse you LFR!)Personally my go to sick game is final fantasy. Steam has a pretty decent port of FF7 which is an absolute classic of a video game. I'm partial to FF8 myself but that's just because it was the first in the series that I played. If you're in the mood for something even more laid back any of the tycoon games would be good for you. I highly recommend game dev tycoon or two points hospital on pc. Kerbal Space program is also a game loosely in the tycoon catagory. It is basically an unforgiving NASA simulator. Still plenty of fun if you're into physics games and rockets. If you're feeling better and want something to get your heart pumping try dead by daylight. It's like being trapped in a horror movie and you have to escape.Hope you get well soon and I hope this list helped.

Can video games make you sick?

I have always been a well-adjusted, neuro-typical person with no seizure activity or mental illness of any kind. I recently got a little carried away playing Skyrim, a new video game. The game is VERY immersive and detailed. After about 50 hours of game-play in a week (a LOT, I know), I started to feel very strange. While I was playing, the muscles in my face would occasionally begin to twitch, my stomach would feel very fluttery, my hands would shake, my heart would pound in my ears, and I would become extremely flushed. I stopped playing because I felt so odd when I was playing it. For the next three days after I discontinued play, I experienced extreme anxiety and depression and battled being completely unable to eat and being constantly being sick to my stomach. Could this be from the game?? I have never had this kind of anxiety or depression before. I am a 23 year old female, and I have not been drinking or taking any drugs. Thank you for your help.

Why do i feel sick after i play video games?

Lord, do I feel your pain on the insomnia part.

Anyway....

There are two possibilities here. The most likely one is that you have motion sickness, and the crazy action in the games that you play is triggering it. Certain games make me sick; I can't watch my friend play Ace Combat without wanting to puke my guts out, and first-person shooters are pretty much out of the question. The other option is that you have a mild form of epilepsy and the flashing lights in the game are triggering odd reactions from your brain....but you'd probably know by know if you really did have epilepsy.

Unfortunately, there's not very much you can do about this. How well-hydrated are you? Dehydration can sometimes trigger nausea and sweating (which seems backwards, but it's true). If you drink more water during the day, especially before you start playing the game, you might not have such bad symptoms. And it needs to be straight-up WATER, not soda or juice or that vitamin water stuff. The only other thing that might combat this is popping a motion-sickness pill every time you want to play, and that's not very good for your body.
