Sims 3 Does It Matter How You Play

Is it weird that I play The Sims 3 in 2018?

No, it is not.First of all, the game isn’t that old, it’s only nine years old. While that may feel like an eternity for certain games, the graphics in TS3 are highly reasonable by today’s standards. Also, it is quite common to continue to play old games with no sequel. While TS4 is the next game in the series, it takes away such major features (i.e. the open world) that it is hardly a sequel. Another example I can think of is Theme Hospital, which is a game from 1999 that people still played, as a sequel was only released very recently.

Should I play The Sims 3?

Yes.If you have the time, you should. It can show you what you want from life.Create a family that you think you would like to have. One of the family is YOU. Your Ideal YOU.Create the person as similar to you as you can - not just the visual, but the personality.Create other people and pets in the family (or not) and see where that leads you.Do other housemates annoy you? Do you take care of them? Do you help them develop and improve (skills, hobbies, career, relationships), or you just let them do whatever they want to do? Do you want them to move out? - Move them out and see what that is like.Do you want children? Do you want pets? Adopt some and see what is it like to take care of them. Do you not want them? Put them away, or make them grow old enough to live alone.Do you want to have a life partner and take care of them? Do you want to have a big family, be surrounded by children and grandchildren? Try that and see how do you like it. Have you changed your mind? Just move to another city and start over.Do you focus on career only and neglect your relationships? What is you career like? Is it active career, or a regular one? Or do you stay at home making paintings? Are you a ghost hunter or a detective?Do you have tons of sexual partners and go to every party? It is easy - you can do this. Nobody is judging you. You just want to have fun. How long will you enjoy doing this? Do you want more than this, or is this what you want from life?Would you just love to stay at home all day and study and read books? Do that, read all the books, study all the subjects and skills. Master every skill - are you happy? Is that enough for you?Where do you live? A small solitude house in the hills, or an apartment in the city? Or do you live on a houseboat? Or do you have a big mansion with your own beach? You may move thousands of times until you find it. Try it all and see what you really want.At the beginning I suggest playing with a very long lifespan, and all the expansions there are.Try couple of different approaches, until you are happy with one, that you can settle for. This reflects your view on life. It can also warn you about some mistakes you might be making.Play like this for about a month (or a year) and you will see what you really want from life, as this is a way to get everything you ever wanted from life - for a free trial.

Does The Sims gets harder to run as I install more and more expansions?

I’m not sure that it’s the GB size of the actual packs that matter, but yes the more content you have in your game the slower it will be, at least when loading. I’ve noticed this with each one over the years. Especially if you also use CC (Custom Content). It will take longer to load certain parts of the game, namely CAS and Build Mode. Because stuff packs and expansions add, well, more stuff for the game to load in.Edit: Just a little note I thought I’d add, I know that it definitely does affect it because it happens to me too, I could run the base game alone on High, but the more expansions and stuff packs I add the slower it starts to run and I have to turn the graphics down, and that’s without CC. I took out all of my custom content a while ago to find one faulty file, my game ran a lot better without all the extra stuff to load. Also it may be worth adding that with The Sims 3, they added an option to disable and enable whatever packs you wanted each time you open the launcher, specifically for performance reasons. So it’s definitely nothing wrong with your computer, the sheer amount of stuff you put in it can certainly start to slow it down.

Can you play sims 3 with your friends?

The only way to do anything like that is with the Showtime expansion. You can send your performer sim into a friends game as long as your friends with them on thesims3.com. You can't control your sim or see them in your friends game but your friend can see them. They can't control your sim either but your sim will put on a performance for them.

As a first-time Sims player, would I be better off purchasing The Sims 3 or The Sims 4?

The Sims is a series of games that comes in two main flavours: Base game and expansion packs. Base games (like The Sims 3 or The Sims 4) are the mandatory games and sets the bar for the expansion packs that are to follow. The Sims 3 is a relatively open game focusing on the overlap between family and community with an open neighborhood where you can jog to the gym and pop by the grocery store on the way home. This is also the game with the most expansion-packs, as The Sims 4 has not had any released yet.The Sims 4 focuses on the family, home and emotions. While you can still visit parks, gyms and other places of public interest it is not seamless and not a core focus of gameplay. With regards to factors like customization, The Sims 3 has the function of allowing the player to change the texture (material, colour) of objects and clothes to personalise your home. The Sims 4 focuses it's customization options on changing the size of rooms and objects. In this regard The Sims 4 plays better than The Sims 3. However The Sims 3 allows for a greater variety of options. To conclude, the games are not hugely different, but The Sims 3 allows for a more customized gameplay experience, The Sims 4 plays smoother and the gameplay may feel better. They are still not too different, and I would reccomend trying the demo versions of both games assuming they are both still available. This demo is limited to the Create a Sim portion of the game where you create your in-game avatars.Edit: Grammar and spelling. Also, it might be usefull to watch some gameplay videos on YouTube before making a hard decision. It won't be as satisfying as watching, say, Batman: Arkham Knight, as much of the pleasure of the Sims is creating a unique experience, the way you want it. Still, it's a good way to spot the main differences now that you might have some ideas as to what sort of play you would like. An expansion pack had been released for the Sims 4 now, and I'll update the answer accordingly once I've tried it to see how it modifies gameplay. Another thing worth noting is that EA has previously released bundles with The Sims and The Sims 2 along with all their expansions. I'm not currently aware of any such bundle for The Sims 3, but it would be considerably cheaper to buy that, than it would be to buy each peice separately.

How much hard disk space does The Sims 3 take up when all of its expansion and stuff packs are installed?

I have all expansion and stuff packs installed as well as some store and custom content and my game is at 32.14GB not including the documents (mods and saves and installed worlds et cetera) which is another 19.72GB. Plus I have to keep backups of my data (physical discs are in storage) and mods incase I need to reinstall because I hacked something badly which is a 109.66GB folder on top of that. Thats 161.52GB total for sims 3 at minimum for me, minimum because I occasionally keep multiple copies and or backups of things like documents or just packages folder to switch out quickly when testing different things.Going hardcore completionist in this game is not for someone unable to go hardcore on their PC specs. I have a 3.2GHz 8-core Intel tower with 32GB RAM, GTX 780, and 4 HDDs one being a 1.5TB HDD just for Games. My main is a 512GB SSD so there's no room. Then I have a 2.5TB Time Machine drive and a 3TB additional documents drive, on which I keep my virtual machines too. I use a custom pc built out of a 2008 Mac Pro with El Capitan as my primary OS so I have a 1TB virtual Windows XP machine on that 3TB which I run simultaneously on a virtual monitor (ctrl+arrows to switch between virtual monitors); although when I can afford a second 4K I’ll run it on a second monitor so I can see both screens at the same time; and Android and other virtual machines and other junk.
