What is wrong with the Indian education system?

9th standard:PTA meetingPhysics Teacher: Your son is very smart. He is hardworking too. Dad: Thanks sir! He studies well. He is passionate about physics.Physics Teacher: Yes. He has what it takes to be an IAS Officer. Prepare him for Civil Services. He would be a great officer.Dad: That's good to hear sir. I am just a 9th standard guy. All I knew was that I loved applying physics to daily life activities. I knew I loved Maths too. But I did not know about my future. I did not know what I would be or what I wanted to be. I approached my teacher the next day.Class - the next day:Me: Sir. I like physics. What is its future.Physics Teacher: The future of physics is full of possibilities. There is infinite scope for exploring the field.Me: Then why did you want me to be an IAS Officer.Physics Teacher: Its a very stable job. You get security. You can get others to do your work for you. You will have many servants. You can earn very much. Even though the salary from government is less, you get lots of gifts (not so subtle). If you pursue physics, you can't earn much. Home:Mom: How did the meeting go. Dad: Great! His teacher told me that he has what it takes to even crack Civil Services.Mom: He's too young. Let us give him a few years before we push him towards his goals. (My mother is a professor. I am lucky. Not all are lucky to be afforded this freedom.)Conclusion:I tell my teacher I like his subject. He tells me it has good future. But money is the ultimate objective and it has less scope to earn money. He tells me to pursue another field. I feel there is something fundamentally wrong if we educate our younger generation that one field has more priority over another. All are equal. It just depends on one's passion towards a field and a drive to pursue it.As someone said: "Where would they be if Lata Mangeshkar picked up a cricket bat and Sachin Tendulkar became a singer."

How strict is SRM University (Main Campus) when it comes to student freedom, life, party culture and interaction amongst peers of the opposite gender?

SRM is more of mini India than a college, wherein you can see people from all parts of India. Different languages and cultures dominate the college atmosphere. Although sometimes you may find it tough to survive because of the lingo issues when you travel outside of college. but then that is also the part of the amusement you won't want to miss. The college has a different environment altogether during the college fests - MILAN and AARUUSH. Let me elaborate a day in a SRMite's life:8:00am : you wake up for college (yes that's true because you sleep late-night)8:45am: you rush for class sometimes or you don't rush at all because you miss the class. **And now you reach for second class for which you have to be cautious becuase you have to enter in the class in that short duration when the first lecturer leaves and second one is about to enter. you don't want to lose internals in either of them. 10:10am: Supposedly a break where in you rush to canteens (a mini battle field because people form Biotech block + IT Park + Architects fight for food) to have a samosa or vada12:15pm: You rush for lunch otherwise again a battle of sambhar, rasam and curry is waiting for you or else if you don't want to be a martyr shell out money and have food in canteen.Chit chatting is commonly observed during this time. and couples really have a gala time during lunch hour. Now comes the horrible part of the day-- SECOND HALF.1:30pm: Its a small struggle with oneself to attend the lectures after lunch or not. You don't feel like going inside the class. Its full of sedatives.4:15pm: Somehow the day gets over and you roam in the campus with your would be/present partners freely. 6:00pm: This is an important time because girls hostels have attendance at 6 and failing to be present at that time can land them in trouble.after 6 pm: Boys generally go to what's called heaven -- BACK GATE (Potheri). You come back to hostel at around ninish and now watch a series/movie. SRM is not strict but when it comes to attendance, man you are screwed big time. 74.99% is not 75 % attendance. so beware.Rest, you will enjoy SRM and it will become an unforgettableĀ  journey.
