Since They Revamped Yahoo Answers .

What if Yahoo! Answers revamped their service in a way that competes with Quora ? Who will win?

There are two kinds of Q&A people, predictably, questioners and answerers. For questioners, people who seek knowledge and ask questions, Yahoo! Answers is a decent experience. While many of the questions make my eyes bleed to read, I often see accurate information when objective questions are asked. If you ask a question on Y!A, you are very likely to get an answer. Often the answers are factually correct, and most of the content on Y!A I end up reading I discover via Google, so one presumes the CTR on these responses is high. For instance, here's a completely accurate answer to a very obscure question about cars.http://answers.yahoo.com/questio...For answerers, Quora is much better, which is why I visit Quora daily and hardly ever visit Yahoo! Answers. The ability to scratch my "OMG SOMEONE ON THE INTERNET IS WRONG" itch on Quora is unsurpassed. However, the content is fairly connoisseur focused, whether your poison is cars, food, politics, or science. It's not really mainstream content. So it really depends on your definition of "winning". In terms of traffic, Y!A dwarfs Quora, and will continue to do so. I would also not be surprised if the answer rate for questions in Quora is fairly low compared to Y!A, because many of my questions have gone unanswered for weeks. Since most of the engaged audience on Quora are people who like to upvote and answer questions, and the UX caters to these folks by boosting interesting content, this is unlikely to change in the near future. If you define winning as having a site that is interesting to browse, then Quora is ahead for me, though apparently not for a general audience. It will be very difficult for Quora to overtake Yahoo! Answers in traffic without becoming a lot more like Yahoo! Answers.

WTF is going on with Yahoo Answers?

Are they revamping something again where are the topic sections and such if this is the new way not coming here anymore this is ridiculous why mess with a great set-up.

Why is Yahoo just letting Yahoo Answers die?

Yahoo!'s revenues mainly come from display advertising. Answers is just another Yahoo! property that sales ads and nothing else. The cost of maintaining such site and competing with more professional services such as Quora is too high compared to the revenue they might get off of it. If Yahoo! had to revamp any products, it would most likely be mail instead.

How did Yahoo Answers take so long in adding notifications for comments on comments?

Because by the time it became a popular request, Yahoo was pretty much done making improvements/changes to the site, and there was a long period of time between when that happened and the site was sold. Then when Verizon bought Yahoo, it took a good while before they put Yahoo under the Oath brand, and people from Oath got around to looking at all the different parts of Yahoo (notably Answers).

So, it's taken a while for Oath to get around to looking at YA and what needs to be fixed/changed. A Facebook group was created so people could make suggestions for changes and more quickly bring up specific problems on the site, which helps Oath know what's not working and what users would like to see (they are working on a major revamp of the site for sometime next year).

Is Firefox/Mozilla renamed, revamped Netscape Navigator?

The open-source Mozilla project was started by Netscape (Mozilla was the internal name of their browser). It was initially based on the code for the un-releasd Netscape Navigator 5. Shortly after release, it was determined by the community that the code base was a huge mess, and so a massive rewrite was undertaken. That rewrite resulted in the Mozilla suite of tools (browser, mail client, etc).

Firefox (originally Firebird, originally Phoenix) was based off of the Mozilla project as an attempt at providing a smaller, faster, more stream-lined browser. They did away with everything but the browser itself (a new mail client, Thunderbird, was eventually written, as well as several other tools like Chatzilla and NVu). Eventually this lightweight browser became the preferred mozilla-based browser.

Mozilla's rendering engine, Gecko, is used by several other browsers (Galleon on Linux, for example).

How should I revamp this desk?

Sorry you are getting such negative responses. Melamine can be successfully painted.

I would be more inclined to paint the fake wood pale grey and keep the top; if painting melamine foil use ESP (every surface primer). But if you dislike the top so much ....

Cover with a lighter stone colored 'desk-top lino' - which you can also apply to the edges. Although given that it curves, I think I would edge it with thin hardwood to match the rest of the 'beech' or whatever it its.

Another way would be to cover the top in fake leather (Rexine) but you need a bit of experience to be able to smooth it over curved edges.

If you are keen to paint it - degrease it well and sand and then use something really durable like Hammerite.

I would go for a green finish, but gold or copper would work.

Where is Member Since in new yahoo profile?

Yahoo has revamped the profiles and the member search. Until recently you could enter http://members.yahoo.com/ to get to the membersearch, now you are being redirected to:
http://profiles.yahoo.com/intro/?s=209 which asks you to create a new profile.

At the bottom left of that page you'll see 2 buttons, 1 takes you to an official blog with explanations why and how the changes were made: http://www.yprofileblog.com/

The other one has tutorials about how the new profile system works: http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/profiles/
