How far back do your sinus' go that it would show up on a brain scan? I've been having severe migraines. Would this infection possibly be causing this pain?

What is sinusitis or sinus infection?

Sinusitis is inflammation of the sinuses. It is not always because of an infection.Inflammation means swelling, reddnes, pain, heat and functional disability. It can be caused by allergens, bacteria, viruses, fungi and autoimmune disorders. This inflammation causes swelling if the lining of the sinuses causing blockage in the opening leading to collection of secretions within the Sinusitis. This is sinusitisSo, if there is inflammation of the sinuses that always less than a week it is acute sinusitis and if it lasts for more than 6 weeks it is called chronic sinusitis. The best way would be by restoring the normal physiology of the nose and sinusesin a consistent or permanent manner. Many times saline washes and medicines can cure sinusitis because they help restore the normal physiology. But often this may be temporary because physical factors like shape of the nasal septum, size of turbinates and variations and airflow can cause poor ventilation and sinusitis. In such situations, if sinus openings can be widened without removing any tissue or important bony structures then that facilitates normal functioning in the most natural manner. A procedure called Balloon sinuplasty is the best way is achieve this. When the disease involves all sinuses and the nature of inflammation risks neighbouring structure, functional endoscopic sinus surgery is advised. and if it lasts for more than 6 weeks it is chronic sinusitis.

Can food particles from vomit stuck in sinuses cause sinus infection?

Can a sinus infection give you brain fog?

I would have to speak strictly from personal experience, which is yes. If you understand the physical effects of a sinus infection, then you know cloudy mucous pools in the sinus cavities and becomes foul. The sinus cavities primary function is to warm and dampen the air breathed in through the nose, as well as trap dust and/or pollen. Excess mucous can hinder this function, and sinusitis caused by allergies can cause perpetual inflammation of the sinuses. This inflammation causes a sluggishness for me, which is felt as drowsiness and brain fog. Decongestants clear this problem for me, but a doctor or allergist would be a much better source of information. I also use a neti pot, also called a sinus irrigator, which helps to flush out extra mucous and allergens. It is drug free and helps me avoid more serious issues.

Can anyone give me some information on Sphenoid Sinusitis?

The Sphenoidal Sinuses (or sphenoid) contained within the body of the sphenoid vary in size and shape; owing to the lateral displacement of the intervening septum they are rarely symmetrical.

The following are their average measurements: vertical height, 2.2 cm.; transverse breadth, 2 cm.; antero-posterior depth, 2.2 cm.

When exceptionally large they may extend into the roots of the pterygoid processes or great wings, and may invade the basilar part of the occipital bone.

Each sinus communicates with the sphenoethmoidal recess by means of an aperture in the upper part of its anterior wall.

They are present as minute cavities at birth, but their main development takes place after puberty.
