Small Black Moor Seizure

Small black moor seizure?

My black moor is swimming upside down, breathing erratically, seems to be very bouyant, yet still trying to get food off the ground too. He can't seem to keep himself upright. Could he be just constipated? His color is good and looks otherwise healthy. I don't want him to tire himself out.

Was King Charles II black? ?

No, he certainly wasn't. His father was half-Scottish and half Danish, and his mother was French.

What may have given your father that idea is that when Charles was a child his mother used to call him 'my black boy'. But in 17th-century England, where black (as in 'African') people were so rare that most British people had never seen one, if you called someone 'black' you just meant that he or she was black-haired. Here's a traditional English rhyming proverb:

With a red man rede thy rede [= "keep your thoughts to yourself"] ;
With a brown man break thy bread;
At a pale man draw thy knife;
From a black man keep thy wife.

This proverb isn't slandering pasty-faced men and men of African extraction: it's about hair colour!

But a lot of people seem to have some emotional investment in believing that the British Royal Family have African ancestry, so Charles's nickname has been seized on as 'evidence'. That's probably what your father was told.

Since Portugal and Spain were controlled by the Moors for 700 years, why don't Portuguese and Spaniards have more African DNA?

Quite simply because the Spaniards and Portuguese were already an established people in their lands, while the Moors who came to the Peninsula were quite small in number, mostly keeping to themselves in their own quarters. There is an issue with the question though, because the Reconquista in Portugal was completed in the 1100s and there were some remote mountain areas of northern Spain that were never conquered by the Moors. The Reconquista was a long, bloody and tedious process whereby the Moors were gradually pushed southward, so that most areas of the Peninsula were controlled by the Moors for much less than 700 years. That is only accurate for Andalusia and specifically the regions of Cordoba and Granada.The Moors were always a ruling elite and historians have shown just how relatively small the Moorish invasion force was. Their conquest was helped by the local Jews and the "heretical" Monophysite Christians, as well as by incompetence by the Visigoth leaders, more than it was due to some large invasion force. This is also shown by the various shifting alliances that Moors made with local chieftains, further demonstrating they were always a minority ruling elite.Increasingly through the centuries, the Moors were joined by many native Iberians who had converted to Islam either by choice or enslavement. They came to outnumber to Moorish Muslims (who were either ethnically North African Berbers or Middle Eastern Arabs), becoming known as the "Muladies". Even at the height of the Moorish rule, the largest population were the Mudejares, the mass of native Iberian Christians; followed by the Muladies, and then a small minority of Moors. The Portuguese expelled the Moors sometime in the 1100s, while they were completely expelled from Spain in 1492 after already being pushed back into only a small area of Andalusia.

How do I treat and heal dark black spots on goldfish? Will they disappear after time and treatment?

Anonymous, dark spots that appear on goldfish are usually always a sign of an injury that is healing — probably an ammonia burn. The only way to “heal” this is to make sure your water parameters are good, to reduce the amount of ammonia (frequent testing, water changes, adequate filter for the size of the tank/pond, avoid overcrowding, don’t over feed…..).

What are the black spots on my daughter's goldfish?

The first thing I would do is test for ammonia in the water in order to rule out ammonia burn. You can purchase tests at the fish store or bring in a sample of the water for them to test. This can result if the aquariums cycle became disrupted, the aquarium is new but had never been properly cycled, or if the fish is kept in a bowl (bowls are cruel homes for goldfish and inevitably kill them).While testing the water, get the level of nitrates as well. High nitrate levels indicate an aquarium that isn’t getting the maintenance it needs. It is important to do enough partial water changes on the tank to keep them at reasonable levels (there is no exact number, but aiming to keep them under 40 is good), and doing so will keep organic waste and other pollutants at equally healthy levels. As water becomes more foul the fishes immune system loses function and the fish become more prone to all sorts of illness. Again, in a bowl it can take as little as a couple of days to build up to unhealthy levels.Goldfish are one of the messiest fish, and many types like the Common “feeder”, shubunkin, comet, and oranda types get so big they can only live a full life in a pond. It is important to choose a variety suitable to the home aquarium, like the black moor, which only grow to six inches long and can make due in a tank as small as twenty gallons with good care. For a small dresser- top aquarium goldfish are unsuitable, and for bowls, well, the only thing suitable is candy.

Why is my lawn mower blowing white smoke?

I’m going to give you ideas for a push type mower - small vertical shaft, 4 cycle engine.1. A lot of white smoke. Too much oil in the engine. Pull the dipstick and wipe it off with a paper towel/rag. Reinsert it, wait 5 seconds and the remove it. The proper oil level should when the oil in between the two marks on the end of the dip stick. If there is too much oil, change the oil and put in the correct amount based on your operators manual. (usually about 20 oz)2. Going up or down too steep a hill. If the oil is at the right level and the hill is too steep the oil may get into the cylinder/piston area and blow past the piston rings. This will cause white smoke and will quit when the engine is back on level.3. You engine is just wore out. If the smoke is more blue that pure white the engine may just be tired and needs to rebuilt or replaced. Check with your local mechanic to be sure.
