Smart Techies - What Can You Tell Me About These Phone Calls

Why do some smart, affluent people use Android phones instead of iPhones in 2017? What are the main reasons?

An Android a day keeps an Apple away!I guess, you're calling me to answer this question because you stated smart people! (okay, I might be kidding, but who knows if I really am except being an affluent!)The reasons to it are simple:Android is always innovative as an iPhone was innovative: I agree, iPhone was once a leader, guru and an innovator. But not anymore. Android has higher specs and beautiful carved design than iPhone ever had. Who brought features like edge-display (Samsung Flagships) , more than 90% screen to body ratio (Sharp and Mi phones), dual cameras, water resistant, whopping 6GB RAM phones, giant power battery capacity and much more? Yeah it's different manufacturers, but as a whole it's an Android! So, smart people would not make wrong choice for jumping over iPhones like dumb does!Android OS is highly customizable: Choose iPhone, and you're stuck with forever same looking UI, tweaked a little than previous OS version. Same homescreen. Same icons. Same notification bar. And since, you asked why smart people choose Android, it's because smart people like change. Something always new. In Android, smart people can customize what are out-of-customization in iPhone.Android apps are relatively low costed or sometimes free: Being a affluent doesn't mean you spend money for something that's marketed more than what it's worth. So, with that said, Android apps are relatively low costed and sometimes free for the same on Appstore asks for nice bucks.See for yourself, what the future trends say:I know people will yell that android is more vulnerable to privacy threats and security as compared to iPhones, but did you forget its about smart people! If they can choose to use it, they are smart enough to either avoid it or cope with it!Question is, are you smart enough?Image Source: Around the WebCaseClosed ™

How do I divert my text messages automatically to another mobile number?

Very few carriers offer this service at the network level. You can try diverting SMS using USSD code: *21*[mobile number to divert to]*16# SEND.If this doesn't work the only option is to use an app (e.g. SMS Diversion - Android Apps on Google Play), but it will cost you an outgoing SMS to the number you diverted to.

Which brand of mobile phone do 'real' techies use and why?

I use Google Nexus devices. They don't interfere with whatever I am doing. Not a fan of Samsung for that reason. Samsung devices can be customized, but I just want a factory phone that doesn't restrict me and Nexus does that well.Prior to that, I used Microsoft Windows Mobile devices made by HTC. These phones were capable of more than people realized. I also have a Lumia 920, which again runs a Microsoft operating system and is still supported for Windows 10 upgrades. I love that phone, but it can't be my primary device because its web browser is inadequate. Here is one reason to use a Nexus 5.Open dialer and type in *#*#info#*#*This will open a testing app that will show you in real-time your cellular signal strength and allow you to lock the phone into LTE-only mode. This comes in very handy when the signal is very weak and the phone keeps switching to low speed networks. I can also use this to point my phone at the tower when signal is weak and I don't know the direction of the tower.Another reason is my SlimPort accessory, which lets me connect this phone to any HDMI TV. It works very well.My iOS devices are jailbroken, but Nexus 5 is my primary device for now. I will likely upgrade to Nexus 5X soon. The only downside to using non-mainstream devices is finding accessories like cases for my phone. My Nexus 5 gets Android updates as soon as they are available. I had Marshmallow in September.

If someone your keyed your brand new car (deep scratches) ?

You know the guy who did it is the guy who had the parking spot. Even if you parked in his spot on purpose, that does not give him the right to damage your personal property.
File a police report, Get an estimate of your damages, get a statement from your apartment complex on what happened and take him to small claims court for the damages.

You only have to prove that it is more likely than not that he keyed your car. Personally, I think it is pretty obvious that he did and any reasonable judge would agree.

If you lose your case, then eye for an eye. You key the crap out of his car.

What is going to be the future of Indian IT techies working in US for mediocre software development or web-engineering in average IT companies like Cognizant, Infosys, TCS etc.?

They will be just fine. I wouldn’t call them Mediocre but IT service companies. These companies exist to full fill different kind of need unlike Microsoft, Google, Apple etc. Consider this analogy,The core Companies(MSFT,AAPL,GOOG etc) make the raw materials. These IT Service companies like Cognizant, Infy, TCS etc put those materials together and build a usable software to run business operations. The MSFTs & AAPLs are not going to provide universal business operation software that works for an entire organisation let alone every organisation. Cognizant, INFYs & TCSs can provide software for an entire organisation and everyone. This is a (manual) laborious work and that’s why they have such a large number of employees unlike MSFTs, AAPLs & GOOGs.These core companies & services companies may have miniscule overlap but that’s about it. They are partners and not competitors. So just like MSFT, APPL & GOOG, the service companies such as CTS, INFY & TCS will also continue to thrive. This means the IT techies will also thrive along with them.Even in plain web development, only few aspects like blogging, payment processing etc are now available as ‘off the shelf’ products. Websites of Banks, Retail shops, Warehouse operations, HR management etc are unique to every corporation and they all need custom software. Lot of properatory algorithms, business formulas/rules etc are all custom softwares specific to a particular organisation. I do not see these core tech companies, automating these operations away. These core companies may build substantial Artificial Intelligence but still implementing them require these IT service companies. Because even with Artificial Intelligence, it need to be trained with right kind of data and some one need to monitor & do course corrections. The core companies may own the Artificial Intelligence but the IT Service companies will own how they are used for each corporation. There is another analogy, The IT Service Companies are like multi brand car retail cum service providers. Neither the car manufacturer nor the Retail & service provider will replace each other; Because they are partners and not competitors. Both will continue to do just fine.

How do I work in the social marketing field as a teenager and be taken seriously?

Be ready to give “free” advice on how to improve a business web page - and when you do - be sure you cite how you know it works. For example, I attended a seminar on new algorithms that Facebook was using to decide which businesses get shown at the top of the newsfeed, etc. One thing I learned is that Facebook knows that people are easily drawn in by videos. They don’t want to read and a picture isn’t just exciting enough. So video’s are the “cat’s meow” and Facebook will put your page above others if you keep fresh content with videos! And then to prove that I’m right, I’ll point out something like - have you noticed recently a sudden spate of single images that are set to music? Kinda bizarre right? A picture of a house for sale in real estate and the put the picture to music? That’s because these Facebook pages don’t have any ready videos but they do have some images they want to use - and they set it to music which changes the category of picture to video. :-DThe other thing you will have to do - and this one is the hard part - show you have already succeeded. If you have nothing yet, try to build a test page and “sell” it - do it. It could be a page for celebrity clothing gossip or keeping up with Prince, uh, Harry? and Megan Markle. Or a page about patterns in nature or a charity page, i.e. your local thrift store. It doesn’t have to be serious - but it does have to show that you were able to quickly grow an audience - and not just “organically”.Be gentle but persistent. No one likes a smarmy salesperson who sucks up and exaggerates - but many people will forget you and put you on the back burner - so you find ways to always keep yourself up front. Such as answering a question for the businesses you are targeting and reminding them that you knew the answer because you researched it.The final tip is the one that would put you over the top but it’s the hardest one of all - find someone already in the industry who has network cache - and impress them enough to ask them to help you get your foot in the door. You can do the rest, sell yourself, show your skills, nail the job but if there is one thing I’ve learned in 30+ years of job hunting - it always help to know someone on the inside. Sad as it is to say - you’ll get beat out to a job every time - if the other person already has connections - so start building yours.
