Smoke Inhalation From Bum Furnace Unit

Spray-on oven cleaner directions say don't spray on heating elements?

open cleaning chemicals are fairly noxious. I'm sure that your oven cleaner has several precautions regarding the fumes created in cleaning your oven.
in reality it is unlikely that the cleaner would actually damage your elements. if you are still unsure, it is a fairly straightforward process to remove the elements. as a precaution be sure to turn the power off first.
most commonly, elements are attached to the rear wall of an oven compartment by a small flange of metal and small screws. with the power turned off or the oven unplugged, simply remove the small screws and pull the element out. you should notice a wire attached to each end of the element. take a note of which wire is located where, and remove the wires from the element terminals.
at this point you should be able to clean your oven to your hearts content. avoid spraying cleaner directly in the element attachment locations. when you are finished cleaning, installation of the elements is exactly reverse of the removal process.

again in all likelihood the oven cleaner will not harm your oven elements. if there is any doubt you can use this process to get your oven clean.

I hope this helps

Laquer for wood floor refinishing- can you stay at home when done?

Hello Snowglobe,

If the air in your home is recirculated throughout the home, as with central heat/air, the fumes from the sealer will be unpleasantly strong for around 24 hours. If the floors that are being refinished are in rooms that can be isolated from the rest of the home the fumes should not pose a problem unless you are extremely sensitive to them.

Good luck,

Tony Wood

Can I put a Rinnai LP gas OUTDOOR model tankless water heater in my garage?

It's a pain in the butt, but you really should vent it properly for various reasons.
Odorless noxious and deadly fumes built up in the garage, and if the unit is not operating with proper combustion, then the fumes could build up and cause an explosion.
Also the unit may not operate properly without the vent.
The newer models have a sensor in them that detects fumes building up and will shut down the unit if the fumes are detected.
I'm not exactly familiar with the model you have, but most models these days have a combination vent and air intake- in other words, the pipe that vents it to the exterior also has a fresh air intake on the inside of the exhaust pipe.

Are there any risks of sleeping with a phone under your pillow?

It has been indicated that cell phones can have a harmful effect on the brain, but it is still unknown whether cell phone use is linked with brain tumors or brain cancer. However, experts recommend being cautious and restrict usage to only necessary exposures. It is not advisable to sleep with a cell phone under your pillow or next to your head because of the possibility of overexposure to potentially dangerous radiation. There are people who are very attached to their cell phones that they sleep with them on their nightstand or even under their pillow. This is a very bad idea because cell phones draw off electromagnetic radiation whenever they’re on. This means sleeping with your phone nearby increases your exposure all night long. You need to either put the phone on “airplane mode” or turn it off. Another thing you can do, if you have to available for calls, is place the phone several feet away from your bed.Heres a picture of someone who did,

If I call my gas company because I suspect a small gas leak will they come right away?

Yes, gas companies take every leak report very seriously, as they should. What they don’t always take as seriously is turning the gas back on after repairs are made.A few years ago, a contractor was putting in a new fence on my property and accidentally cut through the gas supply line while digging a post hole. He called the local gas company and they responded right away. The gas technician closed the main valve and removed the gas meter that served my property. He told me to call them back after repairs had been made. The same contractor, who installed both fencing and LPG systems, got the broken line fixed that afternoon. I called the gas company and was told that they would put me on the schedule and would restore my gas within four days. This was in the middle of winter, and my wife was not at all pleased at the prospect of freezing her butt for several days.Once again, the contractor saved the day. He called the gas company and told them that I was having LPG installed on my property, so they didn’t need to reconnect the natural gas. It was a bluff, but it worked. The same gas technician showed up within fifteen minutes. He reinstalled the gas meter and bled down the gas line to remove the air that had gotten into the system.A resourceful contractor can be worth a lot more than he gets paid.
