Why did Snapchat decide to send push notifications when somebody *begins* typing you a message?

Thanks for the A2A!I might not provided the official answer but my personal view is that they do this to entrap you into their ecosystem.Think about it: all the other ecosystems (think Facebook Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp, etc...) only tell you in-app that the user is responding to you. If you keep their chat open, you know when they are responding. Snapchat is trying to get you to have multiple conversations at once in their system. They want you to send a message, exit out and move to the next. While you're in the next conversation, you know that they are typing to you which means if you finish your current message, you can jump back into the other chat and be right about when you get the next message and can start moving on that. It creates less time waiting for a response by allowing you to multi-task.Now when you're outside of the app, you get a OS notification saying that somebody is starting to message you. This results in a similar fashion of moving you into the chat to be able to respond quicker. The conspiracy lies in getting more “wanted” notifications. People have a tendency to be attached to their phone and any notification quickly gets attention. If it's a spam notification, it gets dismissed but if it shows somebody is trying to communicate with you (and it's wanted), you'll go into the app and wait for the person to finished typing. Therefore, it is used to get you into the app quicker and keep you inside of the app longer.

Is there a way to change the sound for app notifications in iOS?

There is no way to customise the notification sound for 3rd party applications until the app developer build that functionality into their app. However, if you wish to change the notification sound for system apps built into the iPhone, you can do this by going to Settings > Sounds.Applications like WhatsApp has options for that, you can change the notification sound from the app settings itself. If the app developer didn't build that functionality into their app, you can't change the notification sound.

Why can't I swipe up/down to access Notification Center and Control Center in iOS 8.1?

Both Notification Center and Control Center have settings to choose when they can and cannot be accessed, such as disabling them on the lock screen (which I highly recommend, especially for Control Center) and inside apps.Control Center is the easiest to access; it's right on the main screen in Settings.Notification Center is a bit more hidden. If I remember correctly it was once available from the main screen of Settings, but now it is located under your Password Settings. It is divided into two toggles for the Today and Notifications View tabs.If your settings allow for one of the screens to show up and it still won't, you may have a case on that prevents swiping from the edge of the screen in a way the phone can recognize. This sounds odd, but it was the case with a super-rugged thick case my father has for his iPhone 4s.
