How did you come up with names for your twins?
My twin daughters are Nyah and Riley.We thought of names we liked. Went through a long list and widdled it down to our top choices. I chose one and my wife chose one—obviously with the stipulation that we both liked the name.A few of our naming rules:We wanted the twins to have different initials; easier to organize stuff, especially seeing that they were identical twins.We wanted the names to have different vowel sounds, i.e., no Kyla and Nyah, no Riley and Hailey. We figured this would help when calling them to avoid confusion.We preferred names that were not too popular, but also not so unique that no one would be able to pronounce or spell the names. Both my wife and I grew up with “strange” names and we didn’t want that for our kids.Whatever the names, we would use the most common or obvious spelling—i.e., Riley vs Rylee. It’s annoying to have to tell people repeatedly how to spell your name.We wanted to avoid names that would get them teased—so no boy names, no fantasy names, no famous character names, no made-up names, etc.And, like all parents, we avoided names of people we didn’t like.As for the names themselves…Riley: We had heard the name first as the granddaughter of Elvis Presley—Riley Keough. Previous to that I had heard it only as a British male name through the phrase “Living the Life of Riley”. But I liked the sound of it as a girl’s name and so did my wife. I didn’t know the name was quite so popular at the time and then became even more popular after the release of Inside Out, where the main character (a girl) is named Riley. I guess we weren’t alone in thinking it was a nice girl’s name.Nyah: We heard the name first as Thandie Newton’s character in Mission Impossible II. We both loved the sound of the name and the fact that it is not very common, yet doesn’t sound obscure. Interestingly, the name had a surge of popularity in 2001—right after the release of Mission Impossible II… so again, we weren’t alone in thinking it was a nice girl’s name.Hope that helps in your own decisions.

In July of this year, I am expecting twin boys. My husband thought that it would be best for me to decide their names but I can't seem to do so! For a Mexican girls' name I like Nayeli. One of my friends is married to a Mexican and actually named her daughter this. But since you've already picked Nevaeh for her middle name, probably it's not a good idea to go with Nayeli? How about Western names that are common in Hispanic cultures? Alicia, Beatriz, Calliope, Cristina, Monica, Penelope? Dominic is a great boys' name. How about Carlos for a middle name?

As a twin, I’m thankful to have a name completely different then my sister’s (She’s Elsa, I’m Lillian.) In general, as cute as it may seem to the parents, school is going to suck for the twin if they have a similar name to their sibling.There were two twin boys named Desmon and desman (I’m not entirely sure on that spelling, there may have been a d on the end). Last year, looking through my elementary school yearbooks I remembered it. I always thought they had the same name until I saw it typed out.While it is not anyone’s decision but who ever is the parent of those twins, just choose a name hat you like, not one that is similar to Carlo. It will save that kid a lot of explaining later in life.
