So I Just Bought A 1990 Ford Ranger And It Is Doing Something Weird

Rattling noise on 1990 Ford Ranger?

I have a 1990 Ford ranger 2.9L engine and it's an automatic, with just over 74,000 miles on it.
Just recently, I have been hearing a rattling noise when I start up the truck and I hear it on and off until I get to my destination. It sounds like its on the left side but I'm not sure. It's loud and a click-clack rattle type of noise. This sound doesn't happen every time I drive and go some where. I'd say it happens about every other time. Any suggestions would be great! Thanks

Ford Ranger spark plug gaping...?

The Chilton book says that a gap of .052-.056 should be used for 2002 Ford Ranger, however the sticker under the hood calls for .063-.068.

I'm planning on installing these guys this weekend but wasn't sure. I had gaped them to .052 and when I was out checking my fluids I noticed the sticker and the different gaping. Would you guys say that the Chilton book would be more accurate as it was printed after the production of the truck, or should I just stick to what the sticker says?

I purchased the truck used and it did not come with an owners manual (which is why I purchased the Chilton book), and It is kind of a pain to have to install them, then have to re-gap and reinstall. Thanks in advance.

Have you ever been so close to getting caught doing something that you still can't believe you didn't get caught?

When I was around 17, my gf was 16. We were wild rabbits. I took her to my cousins wedding. My father/mother and my uncle/aunt had suites in the hotel where the reception took place. 25 floor. My beautiful girlfriend and I were in my fathers suite hanging out, we were having a good time. I told my father we would meet them down in the bar, where my brother and cousin were drinking. We left. When we got in the elevator and the doors closed, she selected lobby. As the elevator started moving so did we. I pulled the stop button. The elevator stopped. No alarm. We got to work. About ten minutes at least. We gathered ourselves and I hit the stop button. The elevator started moving, but it was going up. We didn't think anything of it. When the doors open, my father/mother/aunt/uncle were standing there. My pops says, we been waiting along time for this thing. I immediately covered with, yeah we’ve been down there waiting for it too. They all get in and my pops shoots me this look! As I said, my gf was very beautiful, blonde/blue eyes. We hit the beach everyday. Anyway. We get down stairs and my brother and cousin were there and my brother says. “What the hell. We been standing here about fifteen frickin minutes waiting on this thing.”LMBO I have tears in my eyes thinkin’ about it now.We all go into the bar and sit down. The waitress comes and we all order drinks. I order tequila for my gf and I. The waitress looks at me and asks me for ID. I give her my ID. She looks at it and hands it back, ask my gf, who shows her ID. She does the same. Takes our order and walks away.My mom says, “I guess when you stop the elevator to have fun, the pheromones must follow you. That waitress was in a trance just now.”The whole table busted out laughing, the people at the bar, the waitress! We were cold busted! My gf turned every shade of red I have ever seen. Laughing!! My Mom says, “I hope you used protection you two!!” And we all fell out all over again. Tequila! No kids though. Long time ago in another life.Just sayin’LaterJeff

Where is a Voltage regulator on my 1990 ford Ranger XLT?

It has a 2.9 liter motor and i have the coil and Condenser and i know where my Spark module is but when i talked with a mechanic he says my Truck battery keeps getting Ruined because of my Voltage regulator. Starter relay and condenser are the same thing and its bolted to my trucks fire wall. It still works so i am up in the air where the voltage regulator is located. if i Starter Condenser goes bad my truck motor will not even turn over! Its not bad my truck motor starts fine and stays running. Problem is I go through Truck Batteries to the tune of 2 a month. i last went and bought a Die hard battery and my truck ran find for two weeks and My battery went dead and i took the battery back to Sears and they checked it and said it just went bad and 4 days later it was daed again. the Napa Auto parts store checked it and said the battery has one bad cell in it and part of another was half way bad. Took the battery back to sears and they gave me a Exchange and i never put my batter in my truck i have it in my apartment and then last week my truck got towed and i had to take my battery to the tow business and get my truck and then i removed my battery again because with a voltage Regulator that is no good My battery will just get burned up and part of the battery will go bad. Voltage regulator ! Its it in the housing of the Alternator? My Alternator is New less then 5 thousand miles on it.

1991 Ford Ranger Turn Signal not working?

have you changed the bulb in the rear.maybe a rusty contact in socket.

Can I put Mustang wheels on my Explorer?

Yeah they fit and have the same bolt patten, and I have seen it on the streets. I can try it too if I wanted, since I have both cars in the driveway.

The problem lies in the backspacing, Mustang wheels get "sunk in" on Explorers'. You could get some wheel spacers, but those aren't always a good idea...

How do I bypass power steering pump and completely get rid of it?

What do you mean when you say that the pump can't be repaired or replaced? If it's a matter of not being able to afford to fix it or you can't get the parts, then you are probably going to be without a truck for a while until you can get it fixed properly. While it may technically be possible to do away with the power steering, it is most likely going to be more difficult and more expensive than making repairs (if you want it to be safe at all).Vehicles that have power steering simply aren't designed to be driven without it. You will cause damage to other steering components such as the rack or gearbox. Not only that, but vehicles are geared differently now. The steering on a non powered vehicle was designed to function without hydraulics. Without power, a modern system's steering radius is affected greatly, they literally can't turn as far without power. The heavier the vehicle, the harder it is to steer without power. In particular, I would not attempt to drive any pickup(or larger vehicle) on the road without power steering. There's simply to much risk. There are only two times when I would even consider driving a vehicle with failed power steering:In an emergency. Either I need to get the vehicle home, or I need to get someone to a hospital and have no other options. It's a farm vehicle, the only thing I use it for is moving a few tools around a field.I've had to move two modern vehicles with failed power steering. The first was a Honda Civic that wouldn't run. We dragged it about ten miles with me steering the car. It was really hard to turn at all, and that was with a fairly lightweight car. Afterwards it felt like I'd spent the entire day weightlifting, just from a short drive. The other vehicle was my friend's Dakota pickup. I went out with him to get the truck. The pump had failed and we needed to get it back to his house so that we had space and tools to work with. We got it started, he hopped in to drive, and I followed in my car. I followed him right up until he plowed into a tree on a particularly sharp turn. He simply couldn't make the turn without power steering. He ended up with a tow bill, body shop bill, the repair bill for the pump, and a hospital visit on top. That's why I will never recommend doing away with power steering on a vehicle.
