Where's a good non-lethal place to stab someone?
I'm writing a book and one of my characters is committing suicide, but he can't die just yet. The stab wound has to be close to a vital organ or just cause you to die slowly, long enough for someone to find you. About a 5-6 hour long death ought to do.
How did the good wizards kill in the Harry Potter series? We know that they did not use Avada Kedavra.
Aveda Kedavra has one effect: it kills. Other curses can be just as lethal. The only clear canon instance of a good wizard using Avada Kedavra to kill is Snape’s euthanasia of Dumbledore. In Deathly Hallows, Molly Weasley kills Bellatrix Lestrange with an unknown curse that hits her in the chest — possibly a well-placed stunner.Though the texts do not generally show good wizards using Avada Kedavra, I hesitate to say none of them do. In Prisoner of Azkaban, Sirius Black and Remus Lupin intend to execute Peter Pettigrew, and one presumes they intend to use Avada Kedavra as the most efficient method of killing. When Remus Lupin chides Harry for using Expelliarmus against Stan Shunpike, the dialogue suggests at least the possibility that he approves of Avada Kedavra:‘Harry, the time for Disarming is past! These people are trying to capture and kill you! At least Stun if you aren’t prepared to kill!’‘We were hundreds of feet up! Stan’s not himself, and if I Stunned him and he’d fallen he’d have died the same as if I’d used Avada Kedavra! Expelliarmus saved me from Voldemort two years ago,’ Harry added defiantly. (Deathly Hallows, “Fallen Warrior”)Also in Deathly Hallows, McGonagall gives Slughorn a stern warning:But if any of you attempt to sabotage our resistance, or take up arms against us within this castle, then, Horace, we duel to kill.’ (“The Sacking of Severus Snape”)While McGonagall is quite capable of killing without the use of Avada Kedavra, and has, in fact, only moments earlier sent knives flying towards Snape, she might be prepared to use the killing curse, as well. It’s entirely possible some of the good guys use Avada Kedavra. However, even if none of the good guys use Avada Kedavra, their decision to use others spells could be tactical rather than ethical. Killing is killing, whether one uses the killing curse, a stunning spell to the heart, throws knives, directs a snake to do the killing or uses Fiendfyre — or any other method imaginable.
