So Is It Ok To Check My Mail Now

How do you know when E-mail is safe to open?

As mentioned, if you use an offline program - Outlook, Eudora, Thunderbird, any program that installs ON YOUR COMPUTER that downloads mail from your server - a good antivirus will make most of it safe.

For web-based email, like yahoo mail, this is impossible. The mail is not "on your computer," and most AVG scanners scan only the content of the page. Since the link to open the mail is not a virus in itself, it won't be able to catch this until it's opened, and most often, it will be too late.

In these cases, it's EXTREMELY important to configure the mail preferences to NOT display images or inline attachments. This will cause all email pictures to show up as attachments, which is GOOD.

What happens is a virus can be inline in an email, or be embedded in a picture itself. When the mail opens, it will try to display that image, basically "opening" and launching the embedded virus.

If you set your mail preferences to NOT display email images and only read them as attachments, you can safely open any mail and see it's TEXT content. If it's from someone you know, you will still be able to click the attachment to view it or download it.

Is it wrong to check my husband's e-mail if he has cheated?

Checking up on his e-mail and facebook and whatnot is not the way to go. Adults have reasons to have communications with other people without their spouse reading/listening in, and not all of those reasons involve cheating and lying. What if your husband's best friend wants to share things about his personal life with your husband that he wouldn't tell you? Do you have a right to read those things? What if he's asking his dad for relationship advice. Doesn't he have a right to have a right to bounce his thoughts off another adult who isn't you?

The fact that he cheated really sucks, and you have to figure out whether you trust him not to cheat again. But spying on him or monitoring him continually is not a realistic solution. If he doesn't know you're doing it, it's just plain wrong, and two wrongs don't make a right. And if he does know, it will make him feel stifled and resentful, and then he will simply create accounts you don't know about for his private communications.

Is is ok to contact the company to check the status after I've already checked once?

Hello PTS:

If they were prompt about responding to your email, they're probably still processing the candidate results from their other interviews. If they said they'd be making calls to some of the candidates, it means that they will be a second round of interviews. Remember that employers are now getting 500 responses to listings that used to yield 100. They have to wade through all of them to make sure they saw everyone who is basically qualified, then sort out the stars from there. You're one of the lucky ones who actually got an interview. Chill.

Check your mail. Then you have two choices:

- Write a short email thanking them again for the opportunity to interview, mention that you're still enthusiastic about the position and are looking forward to the next step in the process.

- Call the person with whom you interviewed. Leave a short mesage thanking them again for the opportunity to interview on (put date here), mention that you're still enthusiastic about the position and are looking forward to the next step in the process.

Doing both will be considered overkill. Select only one and stick with it. Waiting can be torture, but you're on the right track. In the meantime, apply for lots more other jobs with that great resume that got you the interview in the first place.

Good luck in your search.

Best way to resolve this is to pop the letter back in your mailbox with the flag up. Most regular carriers will know they made a mistake and will deliver it properly next business day.If you feel they won’t know why it’s back in the mailbox (right address, wrong name, for instance), put the reason why on a sticky note and attach it to the letter, or paperclip a note to it.Coming from a rural carrier, the worst thing you can do in this situation is write “Wrong Address” or “Wrong Person” on the mail. You’re basically ruining someone else’s mail by doing that. Please check to make sure it doesn’t say “Or Current Resident”, if it’s simply an issue with the name. I get people mailing back “or current resident” letters all the time with notes saying, “No longer here!” You’re basically telling us that your house is vacant. Also, it is not ‘illegal’ to place mail in someone else’s mailbox for the reason of forwarding mail properly, or if you have their permission to check it (say…if they’re away on vacation.) It is, however, a felony if you’re using the box to deliver personal mail, remove contents, etc.

Ok here goes, any ideas on checking account fraud?

Well, I work at a bank and there are several ways for account fraud to happen. The easiest way for this to happen is if you use your card to purchase something - say at a restaruant - where they take the card out of your sight. They will then make a copy, or take a picture of your card, front and back. This gives the person your name, card number, and the security code on the back. They can then sell your information or use it themselves. This enables them to set you up for internet purchases or to use your card for "credit" puchases so that they do not need your pin number they only have to sign the name on the front of the card. Most places dont check ID on credit purchases so it could be very easy for someone to get away with this. I would say that given the information (your card being used in London) that they sold your information to someone overseas. They can do this very easy and anonymously by doing it in chat rooms or over the internet. Usually, they will sell the info for only about 10-15 dollars but may sell it multiple times. I would suggest marking the card as stolen by telling your bank to "hotcard" it. The next time they attempt to use the information it will be denied and they could possibly even be caught if the clerk at the store is able to delay the purchaser long enough. GOOD LUCK!
**Edit**
I would also like to add after reading one of the above responses that it is very unlikely a bank employee could have given out your pin #. If your pin was sent to you through the mail there would be no possible way for the employee to know what it is. Even if you changed your pin employees have no way to look up that info. The person that left the ATM info is correct there were scams going on like that in the past. The only problem with these is that the bank would've most likely caught the perp on camera installing such equipment and usually the ATM will hold your card for an unusually extended period of time when something like this is happening.
