Computer has black screen with blinking white hyphen in the top left corner?

Yes, for some reason it can't start the OS, it can't find a programme to run, get a computer shop to look at it, hopefully it is just your hard disk which will probably cost under $80 to replace (although the shop may charge for fitting and reinstalling the OS.

You shouldn't have to buy the OS again because the computer is licensed to a copy so, although a computer shop may charge to install, you shouldn't have to buy a licensee.

Why is there a white line on the screen of my laptop?

I have seen this in some of my friends laptops and monitors. Try the following:Reconnect and turn the computer back on. Look for the lines at boot up: if you see lines before Windows loads, the problem is either with the video card, the video connection cable -- whether HDMI or VGA -- or the monitor itself. ... Right-click on the Desktop once Windows loads and choose “Screen Resolution.”Change the resolution just to see if the line still appears. If it does, it's the video card.If more lines appear, it's the screen or the Wiring behind the screen. One other test… if you have an external monitor, hook it up to your computer and see if lines appear on the external monitor.. if yes, it's the video card.Hope this helps

My laptop screen got a black patch on its screen (at the left top corner). How to fix it?

A pixel of a laptop screen includes three diodes that are red, blue and green. A black patch will emerge on the screen of your laptop when all three diodes fail. The occurrence of the black patch on display is also called as a dead pixel. This takes because the pixels are either burnt, or they are unable to receive signals from the board. With the help of recovery app, you can easily fix this issue of the dead pixel. The recovery apps force the pixels on the screen of your laptop to change rapidly, probably reawakening the faulty diodes. Alternatively, you can also apply slight pressure on the monitor of the laptop where the black patch is befalling. You can solve this issue with the help of following steps:1. Using LCD repair● Go to the website of LCD Repair.● Click on the option of “Fix My Screen.” Your browser will now present a full-screen pattern of rapidly-flashing basic colors.● You need to keep this running on your screen at least for 10 to 15 minutes.● Now, Press the “Esc” button to finish the pattern and return to LCD Repairs menu screen. Check whether the black patch is gone.2. Using JScreenFix● Go to the website of JScreenFix.● Now click on the option of “Launch JScreenFix.” A window will appear on your laptop screen with a quickly changing static-like pattern.● You need to select and drag the window over the black patch and then let the program run for around 10 minutes.● Click on the “Back” arrow and then check the dead pixel to detect if the problem has been resolved.3. Using Physical Pressure● Put a small piece of tape to the edge of your screen directly above the area of your dead pixel. This pieces of tape will act as mark and will help you to locate the back patches when your monitor is turned off.● Shut down the laptop● Take a soft cloth and pencil, cover the eraser end of the pencil with this soft piece of cloth.● Push the eraser end of the pencil upon the stuck pixel for at least 10 seconds and then release it. Repeat this process for 15 to 20 times.● Now remove the tape and turn on the laptop to check the problem is eliminated or not.
