So Nervous About My New Job

Nervous about starting my new job?

So I have really bad anxiety and I'm starting my new job at a grocery store today. I'm a tot spot clerk and also a bagger. I'm nervous about starting my new job and I think I'm just overthinking it. I was wondering if you have any tips or stories about starting your first day/week at a grocery store
Oh, and any tips about being a bagger? I've never been a bagger before and yea, I know the basics like try not to make the bag so heavy, light stuff (bread, eggs) on top, meat in a small plastic bag, etc. But I'm just nervous that i won't be good at it and be very slow.

Do you get nervous on the first day of work in a new job? How to overcome it?

I used to, but one of my “first days” (for a temp job) was so awkward that I don’t care much anymore. The information I was e-mailed specifically said, “Business casual attire (dress shirt and jacket or tie) must be worn at all times while on site.” Thinking I’d make a good first impression, I wore both. When I showed up (after a rather severe bout of insomnia, so I’d had minimal sleep over the past three nights), I found out that the job was in a warehouse. My boss (dressed in jeans and a t-shirt; long story short, she wasn’t the one who hired me) said, “Oh, hell no. Go home and change.” I lived almost an hour away, so that wasn’t happening, but I had a t-shirt on underneath the dress shirt. I spent the rest of the day trying not to ruin my pants or shoes. She was surprised when I showed up again the next day, especially since I wasn’t wearing a suit.Anyway, after that, I doubt too many stranger things could happen.

I am so nervous I am starting a new job tomorrow what should I expect?

Be confident that you can do the job, remember since you already had an interview with the employer and were picked for the job that you have already earned his or her confidence that you can do it and think about making progress in the company, not perfection. Above all else be proud you got the job!

How do I stop being nervous about the first day in a new job?

Your question sounds like someone who has experienced failure in the past and this is why you are so nervous today.  I can really relate to your situation.I suggest 1. taking a Benadryl at bed time or other sleepy type medication.2. Get a picture/movie of yourself being successful with people.  Maybe you have to dig way back in your past.  Maybe it was only a little thing,  something you would never think to be proud about.  Whatever it is big or small,  develop that playbook in your mind.  PLay it a few times,  remembering how you felt at that time,  emotionally and physically.  You were successfully dealing with people and able to follow directions.  OK,  get that movie good and in your head.  Got it?3. Now,  when the tape in your head keeps playing your being a failure say stop!  Then play your success tape and replace your real success tape with your imaginary future failure tape. Don’t get mad at yourself for your anxiety about the future,  just keep playing your success tape.  It’s real and you have already lived it.  Your failure tape is not real.4.  now go ahead and create a imaginary future success tape,  just to add to your real one.  Imagine a friendly supervisor, being helpful and pleasant.  Imagine you make an error on your first day and your supervisor says something like “Not a big deal,  next time just look for_____”.  Imagine the end of your first shift and your supervisor says “Hey,  it was great working with you today,  see you soon!”  And you leave the airport and head for home,  tired but knowing it was a successful day.  Really think about this,  develop the details,  imagine the uniform you will be wearing,  what the lighting will like.  How your uniform shoes will feel on your feet.Everytime you imagine future failure just replace with success tapes.  Eventually you are going to get tired and fall asleep.  Might not be the best sleep of your life but you will drop off.  5.  Also just remember,  your supervisors and coworkers want you to be successful,  they really do.  Also remember they expect you will make some mistakes the first day.  They really do.  Just allow yourself to be corrected.

I'm SO nervous about starting a new job tomorrow?

My first day is tomorrow and all day today I've been so nervous. I've been feeling sick to my stomach and shaky just thinking about tomorrow morning!

I'm excited but so so so nervous! I was at my last job for more than a year, and I volunteered there for 6 months before that...so I'm not used to that "new job" feeling!

Any tips on how to calm my nerves tonight...and tomorrow?!

Scared and nervous about starting this new job.?

I am 25 years old I just got a new job (Fmla Case Manager) and I am so terrified because I know nothing about this job and I'm worried that I will hate it. I had originally applied for the Administrative Assistant position because I did not want to work in a call center anymore. But the hiring manager thought I would be a better fit for this job and I was desperate to get out of my current situation and took the job. It is still in a call center but it is a better company with alot better pay. I am thankful to have a job, but I feel very overwhelmed because of the title and responsibilities. I would appreciate any helpful advice. ( Please no rude comments). Thanks.

I am so nervous about my first day of new job tomorrow. Help?

it's ok, don't worry

i've been through the exact same situation.

first off, you need to lose that mentality, you have to get rid of all your nervousness, and be calm, even if your not feeling calm, and are being nervous, ignore it!

secondly, retail can actually be a fun job, it's like getting payed to socialize, people who are social do good in retail, you ever have those moments when your hanging out with friends, having a good conversation, all laughing, think of how you are when your like that, and be like that at work, give off a friendly vibe, be helpful

and last, don't worry too much about sales, the less you worry about them, the more you make, some retail workplaces put some pressure, like commission, don't worry about it, just remember, alot of people coming to the store, actually know what they need, so if your the person there to help them that's a sale you made.

How do I overcome nervousness about a new call center job, I am so nervous about speaking to people?

Most anxiety stems from a subconscious fear to any given situation. To over come this, you must do a deep emotion search to discover the cause of this fear. Im so nervous!i start my new job at a daycare on monday.what should i expect?any tips/advice?

Of course you're nervous! Any job you would be nervous. Thing you need to keep in mind is that just because you have done a course, nothing is more valuable than experience, so don't go in with the "I-know-it-all" attitude (doesn't sound like you have the attitude which is good!)
You will learn a LOT, of course about children, but also about parents, how flipping irritating they can be at times, about working as a team, and how to deal professionally with your emotions. Working in a daycare is hard work, and people are sometimes very stressed out, so don't take things to heart, have fun, and don't gossip (it's normally 100% female environment, and gossiping is never a good thing!) But as bad as it sounds, it is fantastic fun, and just great really!! You will enjoy it I'm sure. Go in with a can-do attitude, and just get on with what needs doing. You cannot get away with being at ALL lazy in a day care setting, pull your weight, and have a laugh, and you will get on there fine!!

Good luck
