So There Is This Book I

Why are there so few books left from the Maya?

The books were called a codex.
Shortly after the conquest, all of the codices which could be found were ordered to be burnt and destroyed by zealous Spanish priests, notably Bishop Diego de Landa. Only three reasonably intact examples of Maya codices are known to have survived through to the present day.

Why are there so many self-help books?

Because Self-Help is a huge industry: People want to be happier. They want to be better and more successful. They seek solutions. No wonder the book industry for self-help is estimated to be worth $776 million with audio books being delivered to 24 million Americans with a total worth of $455 million.Kindle has become an important channel for the self-help industry. The Kindle category Self-Help has shown a positive sales trend recently. And ebook supply in self-help has grown by 14% in one year. There are more than 100 Self-Help categories on Amazon Kindle alone. But, the commercial attractiveness of various Self-Help market niches differs widely. Overall, the sales ranks in the category self-help have seen an interesting upturn and are fairly stable right now.But as said, the market is competitive and many authors use the channel to “prove authority” by ranking #1 in a smaller non-competitive self-help category. They will use other channels (e.g. information products, coaching, seminars, etc.) where they actually earn their money.Find out more about genre sales stats here.

Why are there so many books on getting rich?

That’s easy. Because many people want this information. I took a writing course once and was told that if you want to sell any books these are the topics that get the most traction:Health & Weight LossSexWealthDogs & Other PetsCookingThere are many other niche markets, like Guns, Sports and cars (usually male readers).Romance, Celebrity Gossip & Beauty (usually female readers)But the simple truth is that “many” books are written and sold because there is a market & a demand for them.A small market & a demand is the reason there are so few poetry books, for instance.I have written a couple dozen books on making money, finding & making love and success . Why? Because I enjoy helping people, making new contacts & friends & getting nice compliments. Plus at age 80, I am retired & don’t have a lot of other things to do. Right now I am into fasting & I might write something on that sub-topic of HEALTH soon. PeterTaradash.com

Why is there so much death in movies, TV shows and books?

To answer the first part, death is a main stay of fiction because it is an inevitability of life. It can be used to signify victory (death of a villain) , cause sorrow, raise the stakes and many other important emotional reactions can be achieved through death. Also it allows the art to be closer to life and have stakes, many stories would be crippled without the threat of death or injury. It also allows the tone to be more sombre and contemplative.Concerning the second part of the question.I don’t really see that as being a problem mainly because there will always be family friendly movies, feel good movies and movies aimed at children, comedy's have few deaths. Even certain blockbusters avoid deaths so as to keep the tone light and funI don’t see how romance is connected but O.K. Forced romances are a very Hollywood thing, Japanese, Korean and other international movies don’t have the same level of forced romances. Even a lot of hollywood stuff is moving away from it as we see the image of women in cinema change. Id say many horror movies and thrillers don’t due to the usual lack of large casts. Oscar bait movies also usually avoid things like this.I enjoy character death and romances if done right, if they are necessary and make sense. Also if a movie is able to capture the right mood. Some movies go for a heartbreaking death but it doesn’t connect due to lack of set up, characterization or other issues. Recently the death of Superman in BVS did not resonate with me mainly because I knew he would be back in the next movie in 2017. A good romance works similarly it needs to make sense we need to know why these characters feel for each other and if that is achieved hell yea I love it.

What makes Stephen King's books so scary?

Debbye hit the nail on the head. In his best books, the characters seem like they could be the people you work with or who live on your street. His books start out with just the slightest little wrinkle, a tiny inkling that something is out of whack. Most people get feelings that all the time , and usually they turn out to be nothing. In King's books, they turn out to be worse than you can imagine. But because the situations build from such a solid foundation of "real life", and build so slowly that it is possible to suspend disbelief, buy into his stories, and get scared out of your wits.
