Should I report comments that should be their own answers?

I get this semi regularly to comments I’ve made. People are quite friendly and are complimentary if anything when they mention that my comment should be an answer in and of itself. If you meant your question to address situations like this, there's nothing wrong with it. In fact, I think it's helpful to Quora. Some comments are very good and worthy of being their own answer.

Do Quora’s moderators prefer comments when reporting content?

I don’t speak for moderation and I can’t speak for the other former admins and trusted reporter but I personally didn’t feel that comments were useful and I don’t report content with comments except in rare cases (“serge”).As User mentioned, the system is not designed to rely on comments. Instead, it relies on frequency. Thus, if I had to make a decision which content I should investigate first and my options was one content with one report and a comment and the other content with 50 reports, I’m going to look at the one with 50 reports. The same goes with user reports. If a user gets 50 reports for spamming, that’s the account I would focus on.It’s also worth noting that moderation recently reduced the number of reporting options. It’s their way of saying to users that they would rather bin together reports rather than have additional resolution. The caveat is that power users tend to get reported quite a lot. It would be safe to say that Quora Moderators and the QCR are probably the most reported users on Quora. How Quora now balances out verified contributors from the more problematic offenders is a complete mystery to me.From my understanding of how most tech support systems work now, this is how it works at pretty much any company. If you have bug reporting, a high frequency of bug reports with certain key terms are the ones that get acted upon first. Likewise, the content that gets reported the most should be the content that moderation should focus on. To me, that makes the most sense. However, it does highlight the bias that the people who do the reporting have the most power. If certain sets of people don’t report, then they are going to think that moderation is biased. Which they are. But not for the reasons that people assume.

What should we do to insulting/rude/not helpful answers or comments on Quora?

REPORT!report answer: report a comment:

Why are Egyptians so kind and sweet and helpful?

well thank u dear, i'm sure u come from a nice place too, cause u seem so sweet to notice some of our good traits.
its like kalooka said, its in our genes and also because egyptians are so emotional, if two people have a fight and the next day one of them say hello to the other, its done, they forgive eachother soooo fast.
but actually i dont know why others come here to insult us and post some false comments, to give bad image about egypt.
its good to se someone like u who wasnt affected by those people, who i bet they didnt visit egypt at all.
if u come here to egypt one day u will notice also that the sweetness and helpfulness are not only shown to foreigners, its among us here, we've been through alot and egypt faced many hard times, but still the best egyptian quality ever is helping eachother specially men, if anybody annoys u or u faced any kind of harrasment in egypt u'll find everybody in the street coming to help u without even knowing what happened:))
i adore that, and i didnt find it at any other place.

oh and for that guy "shoe s" who said egypt is smelly, filthy..., for God's sake ur name is SHOES, and u complain?!!!

Why do some people delete comments that are in civil and polite disagreement with their answer?

Because quora isn't here for debate. If you disagree with the answer, write your own. If you have factual issues with the answer, then by all means, comment. But do not think that you are entitled to keep your comment just because you can. Its their answer. Their rules.I want to say I rarely delete comments. I delete hateful ones and ones I find insincere. But if you just disagree, I leave it up. I don't really care. But just because something is said politely, doesn't mean it isn't gross or hurting. I think that is the issue we have today. People saying, “well, I personally don't believe that gay people should get married.” like saying it with a smile doesn't mean you're a homophobe. Just because the answer says please, doesn't mean that it is moderate or not coming from deep seeded prejudices based on the question.
