What are some songs that make you think?

The song that immediately comes to mind when I read your description, make you question what you think you knowis a powerful (and divisive) one from Sinéad O'Connor called “Famine” off her Universal Mother album. The song tackles in a very Sinead-manner the horrible tragedy known popularly as the Great Irish Famine. As I understood the famine, in extremely broad strokes, there was a blight on potato crops in Ireland in the 19th Century, which lead to a period of mass starvation and mass emigration to, among other places, America. (In my experience in the US, we learn about world history as it has affected our country.)I doubt I would have thought twice about this historic event were it not for Sinéad O'Connor and her strikingly unusual and forthright song, “Famine.” Here are the opening lines to give you a taste:OK, I want to talk about IrelandSpecifically I want to talk about the "famine"About the fact that there never really was oneThere was no "famine"See Irish people were only allowed to eat potatoesAll of the other foodMeat fish vegetablesWere shipped out of the country under armed guardTo England while the Irish people starvedAnd then on the middle of all thisThey gave us money not to teach our children IrishAnd so we lost our historyAnd then this particularly shocking set of lines:An American army regulationSays you mustn't kill more than 10% of a nation'Cos to do so causes permanent "psychological damage"It's not permanent but they didn't know thatAnyway during the supposed "famine"We lost a lot more than 10% of our nationThrough deaths on land or on ships of emigrationBut what finally broke us was not starvationbut it's use in the controlling of our educationSchool go on about "Black 47"On and on about "The terrible famine"But what they don't say is in truthThere really never was oneSure got me thinking!Edit: I forgot I wanted to include a video for your enjoyment:

What are some songs that make you think back to an event or time in life? Describe the event or thing the song makes you think about.

I’m only going to say one, but its an album “Eazy Duz It” By Eazy E. To preface this memory I grew up in the suburbs, But I remember in 8th on the bus 30 of the whitest kids you can imagine Rapping the whole album acapella. Now today you have people like “Justin Bieber” citing 2Pac as an influence but this was 88′ no YouTube no internet just word of mouth and a brave pirate radio station somewhere in Cleveland. It just goes to show the Genius of N.W.A at the time.

What song makes you stop and think?

One song of Bob Dylan. I heard many a time since my childhood. It’s a song of 60s and when I first listened to that I kept playing it many a time. The song was quite different and dedicated to the mankind.I first listened to this song during my childhood but couldn’t make any sense out of it till I grew up. In my view, that song has a noble message in each of its word and nobody can deny that. I think it shows a completely different thought process on the part of the composer and am sure, this is one of his compositions that earns him the prestigious Noble award. I consider it Iconic. The video link below is a simple cover of this song carrying some strong message to the society. You may find each word very meaningful and thought provoking.Bob Dylan's Blowing in the wind easy guitar song
