Something Is Wrong When My Dog Sleeps

If a dog sticks out his tongue when sleeping, does that mean something is wrong and he needs to see the vet?

Unless he’s having issues breathing, there’s foam, discharge, or blood, probably not. Dogs are weird and like to sleep in weird positions.

Can dogs sleep on their necks wrong?

My 6 month old Boston Terrier sleeps in bed with me. He usually moves around and changes sleeping positions several times through the night. Last night he seemed pretty exhausted so he slept in the same spot, curled up in the same way all night. This morning when I picked him up he started whining and yelping a little bit. I did some investigating and narrowed it down to either his neck or ear on his left side. Every time I would press or rub that area he would yelp a bit and whine, and his ears were tucked back the whole time instead of standing up. Are dogs like humans? Can they get sore necks from sleeping in the same position too long? I'm kind of worried about him, but I'm thinking if he's still like that when I get home from work I'll take him to the vet. Thoughts?

Why does my dog like sleeping on the floor and not on her bed?

There are several reasons why some dogs won’t sleep on the bed or on their own bed. Here are just some of the reasons and explanations. Some dog breeds are protective. Sleeping on a more comfortable and elevated surface hinders them from feeling the ground which is a source of information for them such as vibrations. It also forces them to go into a deeper sleep that may cause them to be less alert. If you’ve ever caught your dog sleeping so soundly that even touching it won’t wake it up? They don’t want that to happen. They are pack animals and understand hierarchy. Alphas/ Leaders of the pack sleep on a much elevated surface. Being aware of their status in the pack means they feel uncomfortable lying in the same bed as their leader. They have not become accustomed to the bed. Dogs have most of their good memories on the floor. You’ll notice that the locations that they choose to sleep on are areas that they have good memories embedded on. Try feeding your dog their meals on their bed and they’ll be more inclined to sleep there. This was the case for my dog after buying her her coolaroo elevated bed. She kept on sleeping on the area where she first slept on when I first brought her in. The spot must be very memorable for her because even after feeding her and playing with her on her coolaroo she still chooses to sleep in that darn spot and making her coolaroo her second favorite spot to sleep on.Its cooler. Simple as that. Ever wonder why your dog never seems to sleep in the same spot through out the night? Its because she’s heated up the spot and now has to move to a cooler location.Ultimately, you shouldn’t be so concerned for where your dog sleeps. Just like humans, they have preferences. They like certain flavors of kibble more than the other, they enjoy certain toys more and they definitely love certain people more than others. You’ve presented her with an option and that’s all that matters. You can train her or even make it a routine for her to regularly go on the bed and stay there but her preferences will always speak out louder.

Is it bad to sleep with your dog?

Uhm,so I sleep with my pitbull on most night he's a male and so crazy and loving c; lol anyways he never really spend the whole night at my bed he gets off gets back on and such and he wakes up at 6 to pee so anyways! :D my aunt says that to NEVER sleep with your dog cause they have a parasite or a little animal that comes out of their butts an climbs into a woman's part...yeah and that it will make the woman not have babies D: is this true? I LOVE SLEEPING WITH HIM AND I DO NOT WANT TO KICK HIM OUT! :c I WANT BABIES. lol take this serious..

Why does my dog like to sleep in the closet? Is this a sign that something's wrong?

Petter Häggholm & Cindy Ludwig both have the correct answer.Basically, your dog has chosen the closet as his(her) den. Some dogs are definitely Den Animals. Others are Watchers. I have had dogs that:1) DEN: Slept in their crate, under the bed, under a chair in the corner of the room, under my desk (see picture), and behind the couch.2) WATCHERS: Slept at the foot of the bed, on the landing of the stairway, at the doorway to the Home Office.3) OTHER: Slept by the patio doors in Winter. That one no longer does it since I repaired the air leak. (She is a Samoyed! And, Samoyed dogs are known to sleep outside in Arctic Winter Weather!) She has since moved under the bed.Photo of home Office & Corner desk:Yup, a nice den under there!

Why does my dog sleep in her own room and not with us anymore?

First of all, you should understand that dog loyalty don't change with the spot she picks for her sleep. What is your dog bread? Different dog breads exhibits different behavior when they grow, show maturity by respecting your privacy and know their boundaries. Its a good thing. Example Papillon (small body, cute figure) are independent thinkers, hardy and don't like to cuddle like little dogs in contrast to other breads like Shih Tzu, Bichon, Maltese & toy Poodles. There are many reasons for this behavior but hey, she come in every morning to show his compassion and companionship with you. Having said that there are three reasons (behavior change, external reasons, core nature) due to which she chose to stay along.Dogs feel vulnerability when they are sick, pregnant, they prefer to be alone. Check her by vet.Mood shift is usual with pets, she will come around. She might be saying, I am no little anymore, please understand :-)Dogs core nature of guarding their master, which will be the reason but again there is not something to worry about. Your dog don't show dominant behavior, its fine.Is anyone got close to you recently? Are you married? Dogs are very sensitive and she might not yet comfortable with her presence physically or her fragrance around you.Dog nature instincts for cat (wild cat), do you have any observation of her staying in room or having a night chase that she does want you to bother with.So nothing to worry, if she is not sick or pregnant, its normal and more understanding behavior.Hope this helps. Is it normal for my dog to hiccup in her sleep?

If you hear little yelps in her sleep, she is probably having a dream. Its normal, my dogs do it when they were still puppies. If it is a big problem, your dog might have spasm in the diaphragm which causes filling of gases in the lungs leading to hiccups. Persistent hiccups should not be neglected in dogs and should be investigated by the vets. So, take your dog to vet for proper diagnosis and treatment
