Something You Get Delivered Locally That You Couldnt Deliver Yourself

If a package was delivered to the wrong house, are you legally obliged to give it back?

The best thing to do is contact the company who sent the package and explain the situation. Legally you should make every attempt to rectify the situation without opening it.Do not open it. Don’t throw it away.In our experience, if this happens, the company will usually pay for you to send it back or just tell you to keep it.When we moved into our new house, the previous owner had ordered a Black Friday deal from Kate Spade. When we returned from spending Thanksgiving with family, there was a Kate Spade package on our doorstep. Looking at the package, it was clear that it had been printed correctly by the company but then "corrected" by the USPS that routed it back to our house.Lesson: Always update your address when you move, kids. Please.Legally, we couldn't touch it, but our USPS also had a habit of send the letters we returned with a “RETURN TO SENDER” stamp back to us.We called Kate Spade who then told us to PAY FOR SHIPPING it back to them or hand deliver it to our previous homeowner ourselves, who didn’t live close to us. When we disagreed, management finally admitted the error should in no way cost us, shipped a new bracelet to the previous home owner, and let us keep the product in the package (turned out to be a bracelet).Another time, we ran into an issue with someone who was using our phone number and address as his own.We never or met the guy, so it was like a weird interruption of identify theft. Usually it was minor advertisements and such, but when "he" received a diabetes monitor (obvious packaging) at our house, we called the police. We filed a report on the situation (definitely not a mistake - why did he use our address AND phone number?) and were told to contact the manufacturer before doing anything with the package. We did, and again were asked to just keep it.(After the police report, we never had any more issues from the guy.)

What are the pros and cons of being a FEMALE delivery driver? And why are all there no female drivers??

Probably just for safety reasons. A lot of women (me included!) would be scared of getting raped and/or mugged and might have no way to defend themselves. They don't know who is going to be at the door when they are opening it, it's probably a lot of times for safety reasons!

Can you personally deliver a package or put mail in someone's mailbox without going through a postal service?

I will answer it like this:Are you being paid by the Post Office to deliver to that mailbox? If Yes, then you are ok.If No, then you are running afoul of some federal laws. You will notice that I said being PAID by the Post Office. It doesn't mean that you have to be employed by the Post Office (think sub contractors). If I find something that is in a mailbox that I didn't deliver, I will look at the item in question and if there is NO postage, I leave a note for the householder reminding them of their appropriate mailbox use. In rare times has a tenant left a rent check in the mailbox for their landlord. Times like these, I leave it alone as people forget, are in a rush or they want the assurance that nobody is going to steal their rent. The only issue that I had reoccurring was when Amazon Flex Independent Contractors were delivering packages to customer’s mailboxes. Their tracking numbers start with a “TBA” whereas ours start with a “9”. Easy to spot. We letter carriers were instructed to pull the packages out, take them back to the post office and issue a postage due request for the item. Amazon didn't want to pay for it. The customer didn't want to pay for it. So, we ended up sending a lot of packages back to Amazon for this very problem. Amazon wasn't happy. Customers weren't happy. We weren't happy. All because a few Amazon Flex Independent Contractors couldn't be bothered to take it to the actual door.Needless to say, that was resolved fairly quickly.

Why did many Americans stop using a milk delivery service to deliver milk?

First ask yourself, why did Americans have a milkman in the first place? We didn’t have a cheese man or an apple man or a ketchup man. Here is a clue: growing up, we had not only a milkman but also a bread man. Why would those be delivered? Because they spoil fast and are consumed in large quantities. In the 1960’s the typical married woman did not work outside the home, particularly if she had children. There was one family car which Dad drove to work, and grocery stores closed relatively early. So Mom had to grocery shop on Saturdays when she had the car. Once-a-week shopping works fine for most groceries, even meat because you store it in the freezer. But one week’s milk for a family of five would fill the whole refrigerator and might spoil by the end of the week. Likewise bread might go stale or moldy in a week. So you had milk and bread delivered through the week. It didn’t sit out in the milk box long; Mom was home to bring it inside. Now, why did we STOP getting milk delivered? Three reasons: married women in the workforce, prosperity, and gas prices. In the early 1970’s, married women started entering the workforce. Now no one was home to bring the milk in. The family could afford a second car, so mom could go to the store mid-week. Even if Mom didn’t work, general prosperity was higher so the family might have a second car anyway. And then in 1973 the oil crisis came. Gas prices increased by 43% in one year. Home milk delivery became more expensive for the dairies and therefore for their customers, just at the point when it was no longer a necessity for most families. As more families canceled home delivery, it got harder for dairies to continue that service, and they started selling all their milk through grocery stores instead.

What does ups shipping status :tendered to local post office mean?

The USPS delivers over 400 million packages every year for Fedex and UPS. UPS and Fedex pay the USPS $2 per package delivered. "Tendered to local post office" means it's been dropped off at your local post office to be delivered to you.

How much should I charge for Christmas cookie platters plus delivery?

For starters, figure your food costs (they should represent about 20-30% of the total). Add in your overheads (cost of running the oven, electricity for lights, small appliances, etc.). Add in the amortized costs of your equipment. Add in what you pay for the platters. Whatever that figure is becomes your production cost. To that add whatver percentage you want for profit.

For example, working backwards, let's say you are selling the platters for ten bucks. You might have gotten there thus:

Food costs: $3.00
Overheads: 2.75
Materials: 1.25
Amortization 2.25

Total costs: 9.25

Profit @ 10% .925 rounded up to $10. Don't forget, because you are doing the baking and delivery, that labor costs are buried in the profit. So, when you do a test batch to help figure your costs, be sure and track all the time you invest, to see if it's really worthwhile.

Note, however, that only the food costs are a variable here. A 2-pound platter would sell for $12.25, because the other costs are fairly stable. The exception would be if each pound of cookies was on its own platter.

Rather than mileage---which confuses people---you'd be better off with a flat-rate for delivery. You can levy that as a surcharge, or build it in to your quoted prices. In the case above, and assuming you decided on a buck for delivery, you would quote at 11 dollars a pound, delivery included.

But the key to everything is first computing your actual costs.

Is it possible to deliver alcohol to a post office instead of my home so I can pick it up from there?

Absolutely not! No alcohol whatsoever is delivered by or to The United States Postal Service. There are even restrictions concerning perfume because of the alcohol content.

UPS early pickup before delivery? Is it possible?

I know my package is in my city. It arrived at 2am last night (online tracker arrival scan). I called the local UPS store at 1pm and asked if there was any way I could pickup my package early. It's a Saturday and they are scheduled to deliver my package on Monday at the end of the day.
He said the package was likely still on the truck and I needed to call 1-800-pickups and ask them. So I did call them and they told me the package is stored at another location which is closed on Saturday. But I know they do deliveries on Saturday! Is it just not open to the public? Should I have called early in the morning before the truck could leave so it might make my package available for pickup?
Why is it impossible to pickup a package early?
You'd think they'd want that because it means they don't have to deliver it themselves.

I just hate it when packages arrive on Saturday (and you freaken know the package is sitting somewhere in your city!) and you have to wait basically 3 days for it to get to your door.
Is there any way around this? Why does the mail system operate like this? Do they want to make sure if you pay for 3-day shipping that it takes at least 3 days or more to get your place? They don't want you to cheat the shipping price system by picking it up early?

It would have been really nice to have my package so I could use it this weekend. It won't matter on Monday since I'll be at work.
