Sometimes My Emails Take Several Hours To Receive. What Is The Problem

Why do I sometimes receive an email hours after it was sent?

This happens quite frequently. As an email sender, I see this behavior all the time. Most commonly, you'll see these kinds of delays due to throttling at the receiving end of the email. A bulk sender like Costco may have hundreds, thousands, or even millions of emails to send to a particular domain (or as may be your case, a shared mail server). The receiving server will throttle inbound email from a sender to help prevent spam or resource abuse. The sender then has a choice on how to requeue any delayed messages if your mail server only allows 1,000 deliveries from a single sender per hour (which is not uncommon for smaller domains), and the sender has 100,000 emails to send, the sender will have to requeue unsent messages for later delivery. Eventually, you get your copy, albeit hours "late".

Why does it take so long to receive emails on Yahoo, many times like 8 hours?

Recommended fixes for the many current problems include Update Adobe Flash Player Internet Explorer and Java script . Clear Explorer cache, cookies, and browsing history. Some find that a return to classic mail improves things. You could also try an alternative browser. Hope this helps

Group Emails are delayed ot not received by the members?

Update 4/6

@Nubia - LOL! I wish there were a way to get the headers of messages never received! But note I said "the longest-delayed" messages. Within the Received: fields of the message header are time stamps that may reveal where the delay occurred. This can help distinguish between an issue within Yahoo's servers or one at the members' email service. Levine's mail parser (cited below) will calculate the delays for you.

@Echo - When reports like this are widespread, and especially when they affect multiple receiving services I'd more suspect a problem within Yahoo's outbound farm than with greylisting or similar problems at the hand-off to members' email services.
-----
Yahoo Groups has over six hundred outbound mail servers, sometimes one or more of them go bad and then you get these situations where outbound messages are delayed. Because of the way messages are routed, messages bound for some members can be delayed while other members receive them promptly. This does crop up from time to time, and it usually is temporary (lasting a day or two before Yahoo finds and fixes the faulty server(s).

The best thing to report here would be the name of the group(s) affected. The best thing to report via the Get Help link would be the full headers from some of the longest-delayed messages.

Why does it take so long to receive confirmation emails after booking a flight online?

As someone who has worked for both online and brick and mortar/walk in agencies as a travel agent: what Trevor said is correct. When you buy tickets online, the airline's or agency's e-commerce site doesn't actually issue the tickets in real time.  The website will sync with Sabre, Apollo, or Amadeus (whichever airline reservations system is used) and create your airline reservation, but the website doesn't issue the ticket in real time--the vendor's system will queue the reservation to a printer for ticketing (even if it's an e-ticket--it still is issued via a printer and a ticket number assigned). If it's a high volume time of the day, you and hundreds of other people could have reservations queued over for ticketing.  Sometimes there can be hiccups with either your reservation or someone else's who is on the queue ahead of you--such as credit card info that needs to be verified or if there is a fare change when ticketing (which can happen sometimes) and authorization codes might be needed to restore the fare to the original quoted price.  And it's not just your reservation that is put on a queue for processing.  The emailed confirmations, too, are queued by a robot to be sent out via the vendor's servers.  If many reservations are being booked and there are a flood of confirmations to be emailed out after ticketing, that can also mean delays with confirmations being emailed out.If you are in a rush for ticketing and need a ticket issued and confirmed in an hour or less, I would recommend calling the airline or agency directly if you can to insure that there aren't any hiccups--even if it might mean a small additional service fee.  I've seen travelers try to buy tickets online last minute only to have issues come up and then they have lost the last seats on flights.

Anyone know how to fix a several hour delay in receiving and delivering emails?

This has been happening for the last week. My connections are fine, etc. This occurs regardless of which device I use to check my email. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I've been receiving delayed emails, up to a day late, in my email account. Is there a way to fix this?

This is frustrating, as I am using this email account for Craigslist ads and I have been receiving delayed emails from buyers. Recently I tried selling some tickets to an event and didn't receive the buyers emails until after the event took place, which meant I lost money on the tickets I was trying to sell on Craigslist because I could not go to the event and not able to sell the tickets. Is there anyway to fix this??

Why is receiving yahoo mail so slow?

I'm not getting a lot of my emails (sent to me) until hours later. Sometimes when there's a conversation going on that I'm CC'd on, I get the 3rd or 2nd one in a couple of hours then the very 1st email like 8 hours later. It's for work so it's totally confusing me. Been going on for a month or so now. HELP! Thanks!
