Son Landed On Wrists A Week Ago .

I fell on my wrist not sure if I should get it checked out?

I was snowboarding 3 days ago and fell on my wrist with the palm facing up. The initial pain was bad but has gotten better and is a little swollen but not bruised. It doesn't hurt if I keep my fingers straight with my wrist and bend it but it does if I bend my fingers with the wrist (making a closed fist and bending my hand down). There is pain if I apply pressure to the top or bottom in the center of it, almost like a bad bruise, but like I said before, its not bruised. I can't twist it sideways clockwise but I can counterclockwise. Does anyone know what I might have done to it or should I get it checked it? Thanks

Broken arm or wrist stories?

my arm when i was 5 when I had a chicken fight on the monkey bars, my friend wrapped her legs around my waist and slammed me down to the ground and I landed on my arm...
my whole bone got crushed so i had no bone in my arm
i had to get metal pins shoved up my arm in like 4 places and a cast for 6 months then physical therapy 2 times a week for 2 months because my nerves all got crushed and i had no feeling in my hand/arm... very crazy for a 5 year old

it hurt like crazy :]

My son fell out of a chair 2 days ago and landed on his arm/wrist area. What do you think?

["I know I am going to be told to take him to the doctor, but my husband's insurance from the job he just started won't be effective until July 1st, which is next Tuesday".]

Unfortunately most insurances won't cover anything that happened before the onset of coverage. You need to check on this. Most hospitals and doctors are willing to work out some sort of payment plan if you ask. Having been in your position myself a few times I understand that isn't as helpful to you as I wish it was, but ....

It could be an injury to the ligaments or to the bones themselves. There are many bones in the wrist, and the articulatory biomechanics are quite complex and precise. There are bones (such as the navicular) which when they are broken may have difficulty healing, others succumb to compression or even have little chips that break off and would be unlikely to "show" in the same way a traditional fracture of the radius or ulna would, but they could do damage to the nerves, blood supply and tendons that pass through the wrist to the hand. Others could break (such as the hook of the hamate) and cause loss of muscular function among other things, but would only be able to be seen by a very skilled clinician.

I'm sure that his fatigue could well be related to the injury. Not only is his body trying to repair itself, but your son is going through the day trying to do everything "the wrong way" in order to avoid further trauma to his hand.

I can tell you are under terrible pressure right now, but I think that this is what they call a "no-brainer". You know it yourself. Yes, you need to get it checked out.

Give your little sweetheart a hug for me, and help him whenever you can see that he needs it. And please accept a hug from me too, I know you can use it.

I wish you both the best.

I broke two bones in my hand a few years ago. I had surgery and they put screws and plates in top to fix it. I'm not really sure what they're made of but I think it's steel. Is random swelling in that hand normal?

Plate and screws are usually implant grade stainless steel or titanium alloy. There are absorbable implants but very few surgeons use those. Most commonly stainless steel. Implants made by reputed companies are less likely to break or corrode.Although such implants can be safely left in the body there may be issues which make us advice implants removal. We only advice implant removal once we are convinced about fracture healing. Below are specific reasons for implant removal.Young active patient can get a fracture above the implant or even worse break the bone and bend the implant. I advice implant removal at 18 to 24 months.Implant can be felt under the skin and it hurts on impact. Again I take it out once it's job is done.Implant irritates tendon or nerve.Any infection around the implant site.Metal allergy. More commonly seen with steel although I have seen with titanium too.Your complaints of intermittent hand swelling may not be directly related to implant and may persist after implant removal.Good luck

I busted (fell really hard) my butt about 13 hours ago and my tailbone hurts really bad, should I get it checked?

As a good rule thumb when it come to asking if you should go to the ER or not, try "When in doubt, check it out".  If you go when you needn't have, all you've lost is time and money.  If you don't go and you should have, you could end up losing a whole lot more.In most cases, there actually isn't all that much they can do to treat a fractured coccyx (the tailbone).  It's not like that can put your backside in a plaster cast!  Women end up fracturing theirs during childbirth with too much frequency, and the only treatment offered is time. [If you're not going to be breastfeeding, you're more likely to receive pain meds.]Every once in awhile, though, you can break the bone at a bad angle-- one that might cause significant problems.  In such a case, it may need to get set properly, which could well involve surgery. As someone who broke his coccyx many years ago, let me add something from personal experience.  Don't tell all your friends about your painful injury, looking for the sort of sympathy you would get for a broken wrist or ankle.  Expect instead, "You broke your butt??? Har! har! har!", which comes off as somehow not quite as sympathetic as they no doubt meant it to be.

My son fell and hurt his arm. Could it be broken, cracked, a sprain or what?

Take him to the doctor

What is the symbolic meaning of a butterfly landing on you ?

Butterflies are symbol of transformation because of its impressive process of metamorphosis and other meanings and symbols include the following...
Resurrection
Transition
Celebration
Lightness
Time
Soul
Butterflies are also known as ADC meaning after death Communication. Have you been thinking about a past loved one or someone who recently passed?
Some people are sent a sign spontaneously as a gift, while others ask or pray to receive one. Depending on their belief system, they may ask their deceased loved one to give them a sign, or they may pray to God or the “universe” for one.Typical symbolic ADCs include butterflies, rainbows, flowers, many different species of birds and other animals, (and they usually act in strange or amazing ways) and any number of inanimate objects. Whether a sign comes immediately or takes days, weeks, months or years to arrive, most people intuitively recognize their sign right away and feel it was intended just for them.ADC signs provide much hope to those who are grieving deeply. But because they are a symbolic form of communication, the receiver must interpret his or her own experience and assign personal meaning to it.The butterfly is the most frequently mentioned ADC sign. It is a spiritual symbol for life after death because of its metamorphosis, or transformation, from a caterpillar that crawls on the ground to a beautiful, almost ethereal creature that flies through the air. It has also become a symbol for personal growth and spiritual rebirth. Meaning someone could be trying to tell you that they made it to the other side and that theyre okay and love you. Here on earth there is time, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months and years over on the other side it doesnt exist everything is within a blink of an eye.
