Is It True That Some Popular Childhood Songs Are Banned In Daycares and Schools Now?!?
I'm a tot teacher at a daycare center. All daycare centers must be NAEYC accredidated by 2014. I hear that NAEYC is making some really tough rules. Is it true that children and teachers aren't allowed to sing popular childrens songs anymore or that they have to change the words in some of the songs because people feel that the children today are kind of violent? One of the older teachers banned us from singing "3 Blind Mice," She claims that the part in the song about the farmer trying to cut off their tails with a carving knife has been dubbed as too violent for kids to sing. I was teaching a popular rhyme and game that I grew up with to the students and she told me never to sing that rhyme again and that times have changed since the 1980s and 90s and that the kids today are different and that we can't sing certain childhood songs anymore. So Three Blind Mice, Shake My Hand, 10 Little Indians, and other songs that have been around for generations are banned now just because NAEYC and psychologists feel that today's kids are so much different and a little violent? Is this true?
