Song about you and your friend liking the same guy?
Today I found out that the guy I like likes my friend and she likes him too but I never knew that she likes him but she does know that I like him. We are all best friends and we have other friends too that are like our little group and we all tell each other everything but apperantly we don't. One of my other friends told me that he had feelings for me but I guess it was never true. I'm just mad and sad and upset at all of them. We are all going to talk about this situation on Sunday and I'm scared of what will happen. I'm scared if all of our friendship will break and all the memories will fade away like dust.
Someone I know has stopped liking a song just because the writer changed some facts about the true story it was based on in order to make a political point. Isn't it wrong to judge a song just because of that? And this person is thirty years older than I am, could it be a generational thing?
The songwriter was a talented storyteller. He would see a newspaper article, get inspiration for an idea from it, and compose a song from it. He wasn't a historian or a reporter. It was perfectly legitimate for him to make up his own story. I doubt he was trying to make a "political point" out of the factual report. He made up names and stories of fictional characters, simply to tell their story. I don't know who your acquaintance is, but suddenly disliking a song because it isn't factual is a sign of a person with a very narrow, limited, and immature world view.
I am an atheist and I like a religious song. Is that wrong?
No. All you are doing is suspending your disbelief.It's no less moral than enjoying the lord of the rings because Middle Earth isn't real, or Harry Potter because no school exists where everyone's a virgin. Especially not in Britain.So suspend your disbelief. I propose that we take it even a step further, into the realm of ideological suspension of disbelief.Essentially, while I might not agree with the contents of a song because of ideological reasons, I suspend my disbelief in the presented opinion in order to fully absorb the piece. Not only that, but I actively embrace the presented view of things. It's essential to fully appreciating songs, and art in general.That's why I can appreciate Religious music and Anti-religious music (so Bach's Erbrme Dich and John Lennon's Imagine).And on the personality/ideology front, that's why I can appreciate Eminem without naturally sharing his attack attitude. Hell, I'm really vanilla up-front. But when I listen to Eminem? I'M A MURDERER!
