I am waiting for Green Card and Social Security number to arrive, should I start applying for jobs?
You almost certainly already have your green card: it’s in your passport book. When you entered the United States using an immigrant visa, the border control officer counterstamped your visa with a stamp. That stamp is a “green card”: it is a temporary I-551 document, valid for one year, that proves that you have been admitted to the United States as a lawful permanent resident and have the right to work for any employer without requiring specific authorization. The stamp probably looks something like this:If you don’t have this stamp, but your visa says, at the bottom, “Upon endorsement, serves as temporary I-551 evidencing permanent residence for 1 year” and the visa has been endorsed by a nearby stamp, then, again, that visa is your temporary green card:You may apply for jobs and begin working immediately. You will eventually have to provide your employer with your Social Security Number, but you do not have to have it to begin working, as long as you have already applied for one. The only document you must have to start work is your foreign passport with an I-551 stamp inside it; this is a “List A” document and thus satisfies the requirements for Form I-9. What should I do if my Social Security number hasn't arrived within said duration?
If you haven't received the new card after that long, the first thing I'd do is look at the receipt from when you filed for the card (you DID keep the receipt, didn't you?). If the receipt indicates that a verification was needed before the application could be processed (such as verification of immigration status), processing could be delayed pending the verification being done. If the receipt you received indicates that the application was processed, take the receipt, a new copy of the SSN card application and the documents you provided last time to the office. It's possible that they can replace the card without filing a new application, but if it's been too long, at least you can file a new application to get the card.

The best thing to do is to go to the Social Security office and they can look at it to see what happened to the card if not you will have to reapply for a new. card and for identification for the baby bring a doctors note on his letterhead with his signature stating your babies name and date of birth that is what they will take for ID remember a birth certificate is not identification it is just proof of birth fill out the application and then the card will be sent to your house

i just got my work authorization a few days ago (i'm an immigrant, i'm married to a u.s. citizen and we're in the process of getting my green card), so i applied for my social security today. they said it takes 2 weeks to receive the card...is there any way i can get the number before receiving the card? because i need a job...so if i can at least have the number to fill out the applications..it would be great...well...please let me know if that's even possible! Can I apply for a social security number right after marriage to US citizen before change of status?
No. You are on a fiance visa? Then you have 90 days from the date of your entry to marry and file for change of status. Just because you married, does not mean you are legally present. If your visa expires before you file all the change of status forms properly, you are out of status! Get those documents filed! How could your new spouse file Affidavit of Support, supposedly proving he can support you, and there's no money to file for your change of status? If he cannot support you, go home. Arrange for his immigration to your country of citizenship. Only after you receive proof of your authorization to work, or change of status, can you take those documents to the Social Security Administration office and apply for SSN. It will take 3 weeks or so to receive the Social Security card, if your documents and status are verified as valid. After you get the card, you can start applying for jobs and go to work.

Nope. The process of applying for an SSN is one of the first experiences a new immigrant to the USA will get to go through as part of their assimilation process. The process will take about two weeks and until it is completed, as Ron Tal indicates, it is needed for everything.You can't rent an apartment, get a phone, get utilities, rent or buy a car, open a bank account and on and on without that number. Your employer should be providing guidance and support as part of this transition process.
