Stole My Car Registration And Insurance Card

What should I do if my car registration card was stolen?

Usually the basic to do’s would be:(1) to report it to the police, obtain a copy of the police report(2) take it to your the transport authority (RTO/RTA/TC known by different names), and request for a duplicate card.

My registration card and insurance information were stolen from my car. What should I do?

Have them replaced, or course.Your insurer can easily give you a replacement.Your state DMV will allow you to purchase a duplicate of your registration. BTW, it is always best to make a copy of your registration to keep in your vehicle and keep the original in a safe place at home.

Does my registration card for my car count as proof of car insurance?

Does my registration card for my car count as proof of car insurance? Not in any state I’ve lived and had cars registered in.Your registration shows proof that you have registered your car with the state.Your driver’s license shows proof of who you are and that your a legal to drive the vehicle you are driving.Your insurance card from your insurance company shows proof of insurance. These are three different documents and you must have all three with you if you are driving a car in the US.

Why did someone steal my registration and insurance card?

Someone broke into my car last night and stole nothing except my registration and insurance card? What could they do with this information (my car was parked infront of my house, so they already know where I live)? What should I do?

My brother stole my car and I don't have Insurance, what do I do now?

Even if you have the insurance reinstated, you're still going to be liable for the charges. The insurance company isn't going to cover an accident when you weren't paying them for the policy. I wish I had better news for you. How did your brother get the keys? I'm guessing the only recourse you have is to sue your brother for the charges that you ARE going to be out. Looks like your brother didn't learn anything from the DUI net even TWO weeks ago. He needs help. And to endanger his daughter's life like that. Shame on him.

Personally, this is why I couldn't sleep at night if I didn't have full coverage on my auto...even if I didn't drive it. I've had cars stolen out of my driveway at night. And even if I never drove it, if it got stolen, at the very least I would have been out the cost of the car without insurance.

What can a criminal do with my car registration card?

Your car registration card also has your VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) on it. With your VIN and a few other pieces of information, a crook can obtain a title for your vehicle.Having the title, the crook can then wait until another opportunity arises and they can steal, and then sell, your vehicle. They have the title. They have a vehicle registration card. They are (to most people) the owner of your vehicle.Or in some states (like where I'm from,Nevada) they can steal your vehicle and use the falsely acquired title to obtain a loan against your vehicle. There are businesses which will loan money against the title of your vehicle. It's not much; but it's essentially "free money" for the crook as they can take the check they are given and run.Or...they can acquire a title, steal model of vehicle the same year, make and model as yours. They would then replace the visible VIN stickers/placards in the car and either sell it or use it to obtain a loan. The paperwork trail for this will wind its way back to you (and not them) and you'll have a great deal of explaining to do.In the report of your vehicle burglary, make certain that you reported the theft of your vehicle registration. Also, call the DMV/BMV for your state and check to see if anyone has tried, or has, obtained a copy of your title recently. If they have (and it wasn't your or your spouse) you probably want to contact the police ASAP.

Why do cop ask for proof of insurance and registration on a rental car?

The registration and insurance cards contain information about the car which the officer needs to write down somewhere - either a citation, a warning, a database of vehicle stops maintained by the department, or, in my state, a statewide database used to study racial profiling. The officer could get that information from the squad car’s computer or from dispatch by checking the license plate, but it’s faster to just look at the documents that come with the car, especially when dealing with out of state plates. The officer will give the plate number to dispatch at the beginning of the stop, and dispatch will give a short response informing the officer whether or not the plate is valid, reported as belonging to a stolen car, etc. It will sound something like this:“Registration ABC123 clear and valid to John Public of Anytown, CA on a Blue ’97 Honda.”This lets the officer know that the car isn't stolen, that the plate is valid, that the owner isn't a wanted person, etc. To get the additional information needed for the paperwork, the officer has to use up radio time getting it from dispatch, search the plate on the squad car computer, or get it from various stickers and such on the vehicle. What was the year of that vehicle again? I've forgotten during my interaction with the driver. I'll have to look at the sticker inside the driver's door, ask dispatch, or run the plate on my own computer. It’s easier if I can just look at the registration or insurance paperwork. That’s the main reason for asking about insurance paperwork on a rental car (outside of a crash report) in my experience.

I had my car stolen. My car registration papers, the blue book and insurance papers were all inside my car. I have reported to the police. What is the worst that can happen?

Good news! You do not have to have an insurance copy or insurance paperwork to have a valid policy. Your agent or insurance company can and must provide you with full coverage without regard to papers.Your insurance company will need: a police report/case number. They will need the date of the theft (date of loss, or DOL). That should be about it.

Someone broke into my car and stole my registration.?

I hope you have made a police report on this. If not, DO IT now. You would be surprised what some of these "immigrants" (illegal?) can and will do... cover all of the bases and don't think of it as "No big deal". It could become a very big deal. Sounds tho, as if you did most of the things you need to do but keep in mind all of the personal info about you that they now have. With what they have, they can get even more.
