How do actors pretend to snort cocaine in movies?

I was watching “The Wolf of Wall Street” the other day and wondered the same thing. Luckily, I found some explanation online.[1]Often the movie or TV show makers use a mixture of different products inorder to make the powder look like a drug as well as safe for the actor to consume it on screen.For cocaine, they use Cornstarch. To remove the stickiness from cornstarch they mix a little amount of baby powder to it. This method was used in “Homeland” TV show in scenes which involved actors consuming cocaine.In few other movies they also use “Powdered Lactose”. Since it is just a milk product it won’t affect them when consumed. For actors who are allergic to lactose Vitamin B powder is often used as an alternative.What if the scene involves multiple takes ?Snorting a milk substance can become really irritating when done multiple times.So the film makers will coat the inside of the straw (which us usually a currency bill used in movies to snort coke) with Vaseline. When the powder is snorted, most of it sticks to the straw instead of going up the actor’s nose.For heroin, they use a blend of Milk powder and Inositol (a vitamin powder).For scenes involving actors injecting themselves with drugs, they often use custom made needles. Stop acting like a junior high school kid  ( and I emphasise the word "kid") Smoke a little pot , ONCE IN A LITTLE WHILE, if you want , but clean up your act and focus on your future . I’m an OCD victim when it comes to public restrooms. I try not to sit on the toilet seat but if I have an, ahem—emergency, then I will lay not one or two toilet covers on the seat but a whole handful. On this particular occasion I couldn’t get the tissues out of the cardboard holder because it was a fresh box and they were packed too tightly. I had no choice under the extreme circumstances but to sit on my hands, gritting my teeth all the while.As I hurried to finish my business I hear two men talking.Man #1: What’s the problem?Man #2: The water spigot is working. I can’t get any water out. See?Man #1: It’s broken. We’ll have to get someone out here to fix it.My blood ran cold. Here I am with my hands filled with only-God-and-the-local-microbiologist-knows-what kinds of filthy pathogens and I have to sit through a two-hour movie and remember not to touch any part of my face the whole time.I exited the stall and frantically flipped the water spigot several times. Dry as a bone. Thank God the soap dispenser was working. I generously lathered my hands and prayed the theater’s soap budget was generous enough to be able to afford the antibacterial kind. But now I had another problem—my hands were covered with a thick cloud of foam and there was no way to rinse it off.I grabbed several paper towels and wiped off as much as I could but my hands were still so sticky with the residue they felt like I had dipped them in a vat of honey. Ever have your hands drenched in anything sugary and clench your fists? He nodded. I asked, “How did you get the soap off?” He pointed to the soft drink dispensing machine. “Water—ice cold. I nearly gave myself frostbite but at least I got the damn soap off my hands.”I could have kicked myself for not running into him before the film.
