Struts And Mounts Vs Strut Mounts 2002 Kia Sedona

How unsafe is it to drive with a rear broken spring?

If the broken spring is a leaf spring, and it isn’t one of the leaves that positions the rear axle, then you might be able to drive it home, or to a garage. This spring will still hold the axle in place since the broken leaf isn’t normally attached to a mounting point. It is somewhat risky. This spring has a broken top leaf, the one that usually attaches to the frame. If that pulls out of the spring pack, the rear axle can move back, and can steer you in an unexpected direction. This is quite unsafe.A broken coil spring can also be dangerous.(From Audi TT forum)The rear suspension is held in place by control rods, so you won’t suddenly lose a wheel. The worst that will happen is that you hit a big bump, that spring falls off the mount, and your fender drops right onto your wheel. You might be able to limp it home, but it might leave you stranded. If it falls out, it could also strike another vehicle, causing an crash with the possibility of injury or death. The biggest thing to consider is safety. Do you really want to drive around in a vehicle that can kill you or someone else? If the condition of your vehicle causes a crash, you will be held responsible. I have a pretty good understanding of how vehicles work, and what I can limp home and what I should have towed, but that’s my decision, and I have to be able to live with any consequences.
