Sudden Onset Alcohol Intolerance

Can alcohol cause hives?

My mom has been getting hives for the past month. She went to the DR. and got blood work done and the tests revealed she is not allergic to anything on the panels. She usually gets the hives in the middle of the night when she wakes up she notices them. She gets them on her legs, arms, stomach and even her head. Last Sunday morning she woke up with them again and one was on her eye. So she went to Urgent Care after our DR didn't give her another perscription for the hives. The Urgent Care DR gave her a steriod to treat them and she hasn't had them since. Except last night she consumed alcohol and had cigarettes and she woke up with hives again this morning. I'm beginning to think it's alcohol. She has been drinking for years, can a sudden onset be the cause of hives from alcohol? Our DR. wants to send her to a dermatologist. What do you think??

What does it mean if someone passes out after one alcoholic drink?

There are of course a number of other more general answers here, which should be heeded.I have heard of this amongst alcoholics. It’s because one’s body is so filled with toxins that one more drink (because you’ve had many recently) shuts you down in self-defense. One of the same reasons we throw up from drinking (or pee a lot), to purge ourselves.An example - at the end of my drinking, my static BAL was around .40 (yes, all the time). I was told (told) that with completely abstinence, it would take 2 weeks to get below 0.20. I guess it’s in one’s skin, cells, organs, everywhere. I could indeed smell it in my sweat occasionally for 6 months after I stopped.Purely anecdotal, but it does say that the standard “one drink per hour” assumes a non-well-pickled person.So that’s for active alcoholics only, and is not at all uncommon.

What can cause a sudden sensitivity to caffeine?

Food sensitivity is not simple to explain.  Food intolerance reactions can include pharmacologic, metabolic, and gastro-intestinal responses to foods or food compounds. They are caused by various organic chemicals occurring naturally in a wide variety of foods, both of animal and vegetable origin more often than to food additives, preservatives, colourings and flavourings, such as sulfites or dyes. Both natural and artificial ingredients may cause adverse reactions in sensitive people if consumed in sufficient amount, the degree of sensitivity varying between individuals.So ask yourself what has changed since you became sensitive to caffeine?  Your general diet, your consumption of caffeine, the method of consumption,  the sources of caffeine, etc.

Why is coffee suddenly causing panic/anxiety attacks?

I'm not an expert by any means, but I totally went through the same thing recently, and I attribute it to getting older. I'm not old, but I'm in my late 20’s, and for me that has come with several changes. My stamina and energy levels have dropped, and I'm more introverted. I have always been a daily coffee drinker, I was drinking a few shots of strong espresso every day with no problem. Seemingly overnight I started getting terrible anxiety following my daily cup of espresso. Racing heartbeat, feeling like I can't breathe. I had to cut back to regular coffee and only have one cup, which is only 1/3 the amount of caffeine I was consuming before. Some days it still gives me anxiety! If I’m having a bad week, I'll switch to a light roast. Sugar plays a huge role for me too! I have a much better experience when I lose the sugar. The taste isn't great, but I feel way better when I don't combine sugar and caffeine. Sugar is a terrible drug in and of itself, so you could try losing the sugar if you haven't already.Maybe your body did what mine did, and decided it doesn't like stimulants anymore. Seems like with age comes less tolerance for certain things. Just my two cents. Good luck!

Constant headaches, dizzy, nausea only at night, why?

It's difficult to assume what you are suffering from by just listening to you .... You might suffer from anxiety attacks, or it might have an underlying physical causes... Monophobia, fear of being alone, happens mostly at night, or when you are alone, fear of possible dooms and no one is there to help you. Have you been under a lot of stress lately ? Once symptoms arise, some of them might carry into the day..especially if you experience them every night..I'm concerned...Do you have a family doctor you can see ? if not, you could see an intermediate care centre physician. Do you have parents nearby, older relatives, friends to talk to or stay with you at night occasionally to see if your symptoms lessen with other person next to you at night...
Hope my suggestion helps, good luck !:):}

Why does my usually mild tinnitus get perceptually worse when I drink alcohol?

As demonstrated in the classic paper by Heller and Bergman (Heller and Bergman, 1953), most people have some degree of tinnitus. Perceived loudness is thought to depend upon numerous things, including (but not limited to) state of hearing, ambient noise levels and various psychological factors (e.g. Bothersome tinnitus linked to neuroticism). One possible explanation for your tinnitus seeming louder after alcohol consumption is that your hearing is reduced.  Alcohol can cause a temporary shift in hearing thresholds, particularly  in those who already have some level of hearing damage (The acute effects of alcohol on auditory thresholds, 2007). Some people report an increase in tinnitus loudness following alcohol  consumption, whilst others report a decrease. Indeed some individuals  who experience tinnitus distress choose to self-medicate with alcohol. (Patients' reports of the effect of alcohol on ti... [Br J Audiol. 1995]). This level of individual variation is most likely due to the variety of underlying causes of tinnitus.The internet is full of quacks peddling fraudulent tinnitus 'cures', and some healthcare professionals can be very negative and/or unsympathetic, but there are interventions that can help. If you are looking for further information or support then British Tinnitus Association or  American Tinnitus Association may be of interest.Sudden onset tinnitus always warrants prompt investigation, particularly if unilateral (affecting just one ear). Please see your doctor or a qualified audiologist if you have any concerns about your hearing, balance or tinnitus.

Does hypothyroidism start suddenly or gradually? Can it also suddenly vanish for one or two days for some unknown reason?

That depends on the cause.If it is caused by Hashimoto’s it will usually be slow, as the inflammation of the gland takes time. If it is due to iod deficiency it will also be rather slow as you do have some iod content in your body.If it is due to medical complications (many antidepressants induce hypothyroidism), it usually starts from the day the medication is taken and that is faster than Hashimoto’s.It can also start immediately. That is when the thyroid gland is removed. This is often when there is a thyroid cancer or done as treatment for hyperthyroidism.Btw you wouldn't notice if hypothyroidism vanished for two days and then returned. That is not how it works.
