Suggest Me Some Good Books

Can you suggest some good books for me?

I am looking to get into reading, and I was hoping you guys could give me some suggestions on good books.

I am looking for more non-fiction, essay style material. I'm not a big fan of novels because I often times wander off in thought and miss a lot of important detail, so something that I can just continue reading without having to worry about missing plot points would be sweet. I enjoy philosophy, psychology, science, that kind of stuff. I also enjoy biographies and occult material (I know the subject matter if fiction but the way it is presented, people take that stuff seriously).

As well I was wondering if anyone knows any good books on mythology and demonology. Crypto-Zoology (if that is the actual term) is what I'm hoping for. Legendary creatures and beasts and that kind of thing (again on the same side as occult, taken as literal guides). I've always wanted to find a text that has interesting illustrations, and is presented as a list of popular demons/creatures in different geographical locations. Thinks like Windigo, El Chupacabra, Thunderbird, that sort of stuff.

As well if you don't have a suggestion pertaining to that sort of thing, I am interested in horror novels. Preferably something not Stephen King or Clive Barker (never could get into those two). I already have H.P. Lovecraft and as well I very much enjoyed House of Leaves and plan on reading his other books.

And even still, if you don't have any suggestions pertaining, just list your favorite books. Anything would be useful to me, and if I don't want to read it I at least could have some ideas.

As always, thanks for reading and thank you for your time and answers!

Ice Station by Matthew Reilly. The action in this book is literally non-stop and it would make an awesome action movie. I read it back in high school when my english class had to do an assignment on it, and EVERYONE in the class loved it (including the people who hate reading).

The plot follows the events that occur in the wake of the disappearance of a diving team at a remote Antarctic research station. A team of Force Reconnaissance Marines led by Lieutenant Shane Schofield is dispatched to secure the station, where they learn the scientists at the base had discovered something made of metal buried within layers of ice hundreds of millions of years old. As Schofield's Marines set about securing the station, they must deal with French paratroopers posing as researchers, traitors within the unit looking to make sure only certain people know of the discovery, a team of British SAS operatives sent to the station, and a resident within the research team who has already killed one of her co-workers.

*Twisted Wing - Ruth Newman- This book was written by a forensic detective...about a mysterious monstrous killing that they had to solve. I won't spoil the ending for you, but the killings are grotesque and when you find out who the killer is trust me you won't be happy.
* Frankenstein - Mary Shelley is amazing in it
* Season of the Witch - Natasha Mostert , it actually came out as a movie this year. I thought it was a classic horror... some people did not like it because they expected it to be more scary but it was probably due to the graphic pictures that didn't seem realistic enough. Besides its written on paper where you imagine it your way so yeah.

Suggest me some good books plzz?

i'm 16 nd i hv just started reading books since its my vacations..... i don't like romance novels... the books that i hv liked so far are "to kill a mocking bird" and "the woman in white".. other than these, the books that i've read mostly contain all that kissing and the things i want to avoid reading.... i like reading books that might contain a little romance but dont wanna read all those sordid details that most novels contain (if u know what i mean)

and i really prefer reading detailed novels having 300 pages or more.. nd yess.. i don't wanna read novels with simple vocabulary...

GENRE: girly ( not romance though), detective (not too complex ), fiction..

i dont like books like alchemist by paulo coelho..

one more thing: i have just started reading Anna karenina by Leo tolstoy... what genre is this book and will i like it considering the above details?? (optional)

I would request you to start with the three books of Shiva Trilogy by Amish Tripathi. The three books are The Immortals of Meluha, The Secret of the Nagas, The Oath of the Vayuputras. These books are gripping which will make you sit with them as every chapter in the book keeps ending with a cliffhanger that draws your attention to the next chapter as well. Apart from being qualified to be irresistible thrillers, these books give you an idea about life. The philosophical ideas embedded in form of short paragraphs are priceless. I loved reading all the three books, precisely why this trilogy is one of the fascinating reads. Then you could read ‘The Kite Runner’ by Khaled Hosseini. It is an absolute classic which shudders your thoughts as you read the book. It is the best book I have read. It is a story about guilt and redemption of a person, that mesmerizes, shocks and drives readers to tears. Frankly that is how life is.

Here are some of my all-time favourite fiction books-The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins.War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy.Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy. The Harry Potter Series by J.K.Rowling.Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte.Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle.Animal Farm by George Orwell. The Catcher In The Rye by J.D.Salinger.Great Expectations by Charles Dickens. The Lord of the Rings series by J.R.R.Tolkein.Pride And Prejudice By Jane Austen. The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe by C.S.Lewis.To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee.I’ve enjoyed reading these amazing books. Hope that you do too. Thanks a lot for the amazing A2A!

Thanks for the A2A.Philosophy literally means love of wisdom. There are so many schools of thought and so many great philosophical works from different corners of the world, it's difficult to decide where to start from. Here are the main branches :For someone who has not studied philosophy academically, and is still in the first portion of life, I am mostly ignorant of all these. (Working on it) If you want books on hard-core philosophy, take a look at other answers to similar questions given by people much more well-studied than me.However, I can recommend a few good works of philosophical fiction. I have read some of these, and this is the reading list I compiled. (After a lot of asking around.)The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor DostoyevskyThe Stranger by Albert CamusThe Myth of Sisyphus and Other Essays by Albert Camus1984 by George OrwellAtlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand (you could also read Anthem or The Fountainhead)The Man Without Qualities by Robert MusilSiddharta and Steppenwolf by Herman HesseThe Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar WildeSlaughter-house Five by Kurt VonnegutThus Spoke Zarastustra by Friedrich Nietzche (one of this great philosopher’s most accessible books)Okay. Here’s something crazily different, but which I immensely respect all the same. If you're a fan of the Harry Potter Universe, you'll probably feel the same way as I do about this. This is a piece of fanfiction, but no ordinary piece. Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality by Eliezer Yudkowsky is absolutely brilliant.Hope you decide to read some of these, but there will always be more to read.If only there was a well-paid full-time job : Reader-Recommender-Reviewer-Adviser. The dream life.
