Should I take summer classes in college?

I wouldn't advise taking summer classes. School is exhausting, and four solid months are required for the average person to get recharged for the next go around. In addition, you may not be able to get valuable experience of a summer job, as they may require you to work long or odd hours that conflict with class.

In the grand scheme of things, what is a few extra months til graduation? Once you graduate you will probably wish you were back in school! Also, a little bit more spending money is always a good thing.

What are some paying summer jobs in New York City?

First the bad news: Bookstore? You don't read the business news. There are no more bookstores to speak of. Bookstores don't hire English majors. They hire unskilled labor. They don't need seasonal help. Good luck with that. The good news: If you have good written and oral communication skills you are attractive to many employers in many industries. They always want fresh new blood to work for entry level wages who can communicate in a professional manner.Reality check: You are applying a bit late for paid internships. Those are likely all taken by people with more self-initiative. If it were earlier in the year I would suggest marketing or public relations firms, publishers. There is always office temporary, but there are much fewer being hired these days and competition is stiff. Try Personnel Exceptional and Daybreak Staffing. I have had good luck with them in the past. Try networking like crazy. Does anyone you know work in an office and know of a summer internship? Put up a super profile on LinkedIn and invite everyone in your email and social media lists. Then ask them to endorse your skills and put in good comments. Then search their contacts for possible employers and send them invitations to connect. Then follow up with them for job prospects.Summer work:I would have to say summer camps, summer day camps, ice cream vendors, amusement parks, NYC parks grounds crew. Can you lifeguard? Hold your nose:Some companies hire people to write articles for SEO. They are more likely to be work from home and you are paid by the number of pieces you write for them (usually involves writing peppy humorous articles about a product or service that they will post in blogs, then writing 5-10 positive comments that they will post on the article under different names.) Try not to throw up in your mouth a little. (My daughter graduated with an English degree last year  and she got some work like that from a friend upstate. But after she completed the first assignment, she declined to do more. Fortunately, she can live at home for now and she is working on creative projects. For income she works as a waitress.) But if you can stomach it, at least you could write these on an tablet while you enjoy sitting in an NYC park.Check with your alma mater's career counseling people and alumni association. They may be able to help alumni. Also, call 311 and they will help direct you to the proper city, county or state agency.Good luck.

How to ask time off from my part time job?

I recently got a job on campus at my college in the housing and residence life office. I work as an office assistant, organizing files, shredding papers, and occasionally answering telephones. I have worked here for about a month, and as far as I know, it is only a summer job (my boss said she thinks she has enough students working during the school year, but if not I could be hired back.) Anyway, my boyfriend and his family just planned a vacation for a week in August, and I need to ask off for that. A bit of a background, my boss asked during my interview if I had any vacations planned, and I didn't at the time but do now. Also, August is apparently our busiest time, because residents are getting ready to move back in. I just don't know how busy I would be. Also, I would only be missing three days of work, since it's over a weekend. I also don't work 8 hour days, 5.5 hours at most. I also only make 7.25, so it's not like it's a super important job. My boss is not the friendliest, she kind of intimidates me so I'm just very nervous about asking off. I would really prefer to email, but everyone has told me that's not professional. I just would like advice on the best way to go about this. I wouldn't be worried about asking off if we weren't going to be busy during that time. My boss never really specified how busy or how important my job would be during August, though. Also, I'm sorry if I rambled and that was too much info! Any thoughts would be appreciated.

How can a high school senior land a summer job at an investment firm?

If you are a very strong student in math or computer science, you may be able to get a technical internship, but this is really a long shot -- your chances are much better at a technology start-up or doing a research internship somewhere.  Even if your end goal after college is to work on investments, you would probably learn more as a student in those environments. If you're looking for a non-technical internship, say marketing or client services -- unless you have a unique situation that allowed you to get experience or education in those areas as a high school student, you would probably be doing very manual work at the investment firm, and may or may not actually learn any of the skill sets needed to do higher impact work in these areas down the road.  If you still want to take that chance and also just to get to see the industry and evaluate whether it's for you, the ways to get in would generally be through connections.

What should a college graduate do during the summer before working full-time in finance?

I walked at our commencement in early May and didn't have to report to work until mid-September. This is what I did in those four months:Took a month-long RV trip around the U.S. with a few buddies. This was awesome; very highly recommended.Visited Italy (Rome, Naples) for 10 days with my family. Highly recommended, especially if you haven't been to Europe before.Trained as a waiter at a contemporary American restaurant. Not recommended. Four months isn't enough time to become skilled in a completely new job. I panicked after two weeks of training (because I couldn't memorize the differences between all the gourmet cheeses) and quit. Oh well.Started a small business buying and selling textbooks on eBay. Recommended. This was fun, made me feel productive, and earned me some walking-around cash.Learned to cook by making dinner for my family four nights a week. Recommended. Super fun and made me feel like a little less of a deadbeat for hanging around at home all summer.Hung out with my high school friends during the week, and took the train to downtown Chicago every weekend to party in the city. Sorta-kinda recommended. Chicago freakin' rules. I probably didn't need to drink sixteen beers every time we went out at night, though.Read six or seven books. Highly recommended.Worked out 3 or 4 days a week. I really wanted to fit into those size 32 slacks for my first day of work. Recommended.

What are the best summer banking internships for a UK student?

I dont particularily know anything about banking internships, but here are some places you could start looking:Internships in UKFinance Internships & Graduate Schemes | eFinancialCareersEntry Level Banking jobs in United KingdomAdditionally, if you take the initiative yourself, and send applications out, possibly visit personally, some businesses or perhaps banks, might be willing to grant you an internship - especially if you offer to work for free. A free job might turn into a paid one later. However, getting an internship/job is a whole other discussion, so try asking around for that if you are interested. If you dont manage to land an internship, try getting experience that might increase your appeal, for when you apply next time, by doing voluntary work or doing something that is relevant to your line of business.
