Supervisor Non-formen

Why are there seats reserved for all women (not only pregnant women) in public transport buses in India? How is it fair?

Lets go back to 1980's 70's for a while. As we all know women weren't interested/Allowed to come out of their houses. So giving enough reservation in the society either in the buses/Colleges/Govt Offices was the idea to make women come out of the houses to get their glory of living with their Heads-up. As years passed, Women started roaming without hesitation. (But still ,Even Now in some towns women do not go even to buy vegetables,Shops etc.. Ex : My mom never leaves house , whenever she is her native place in Andhra Pradesh) Even if the ladies reserved seats are full, I have witnessed so many people giving away their seats. Coming to the point1) Women are respected , Seats are given not because they will be molested or something else . User 's point of view is somewhat different. Yes few people purposefully try to get on Women standing in the bus.But that's not the point.2) Women are Comparatively sensitive than men.Women's physical ability is sometimes complex. Pregnancy,Periods etc etc  Men can even climb up the running bus, a girl/Women WILL not. (Take a look, its not CANNOT ). 3) In 2013 , its unfair. Now a days Girl can do anything. (Actually they should do anything a boy can. That is why Reservation came into picture ! )They do not need 3 cars of reservation in trains. 40% of seats in bus. 4) Me staying in Germany from past few years,  Have observed a lot of things. And Here Equality is defined. They are strong enough to break jaws of any guy. They have a habit of doing Gym. Unfortunately most of the Indians girls haven't adopted that culture, Soon they will.

Is it sexism that companies' dress codes permit women (but not men) to wear sandals?

I'd like the OP to provide me with a list of companies that permit women but not men to wear sandals. ( I am serious about that.)I happen to know a thing or two about dress codes in different industries. Below, you will find examples of what I am talking about.Hospitals - All the staff have to wear proper foot wear that cover all of the feet. You see, sick people need needles, vomit, poop, bleed and for health reasons, you do not want any needle, blood, vomit, poop or blood to contaminate you by having those body fluids touch your skin or worse, your skin with an open wound like a scratch, hangnails, etc.Police officers, firefighters- Not sure that seeing firefighters and police officers in sandals would be efficient for them to do their job, no matter their gender. ( It's common sense really.)Construction - Steel toe boots are the norm. In fact, in my country, it is mandatory. If ever there is a construction accident and the construction worker, no matter his or her gender, did not wear proper boots or equipment the construction company will be fined and the construction might lose a limb in the process. ( Again common sense prevails again in this situation.)White collar types of jobs - I believe it all depends on the company's cultural image it wants to project. Also, depending on the level of management, the type of attire, not just the shoes might be part of the cultural filters of that company. For example, in my line of work, it was not seen as being professional to wear sandals at work. At the level I was at, it was expected that I look professional at all times and that meant to wear shoes that were classy either with low or high heels but the toes were not shown.Employees that wore sandals were those that had low ranking jobs. I know it seems snooty but that is how it was.Teachers or anyone in the education field - In my area, there are no restrictions for males or females concerning shoe attire. Casual clothing seems to be the norm. Of course, those that teach shop courses or art courses dress accordingly depending on the types of projects they are working on. I believe your question has the penchant of a straw man type of situation.Your question does not really make sense when applied to different fields or types of work. Again, I ask you to name companies that only permits women to wear sandals and forces men to wear shoes that cover their feet.

What is the bigger position in a company, a supervisor or foreman?

Supervisor is typically a salary front line management position, lower in the management structure. The giveaway in the title is supervisor instead of manager.Foremen are senior members of the hourly crew, and are often considered right hands to the supervisors. They bring a lot of experience to the table. When I was a young buck in my first warehouse supervisor job, I learned the ropes from a couple of great leads (aka foremen) who had been on the team for a decade or more. I am very happy they put up with me and all my ignorance.

What is difference between civil site engineer and site supervisor?

Site Supervisor: He must be able to study the drawings and execute the work by managing the labour, material and machinery as per Daily planning. Monitoring the work and providing the current status of work to concerned Site Engineer. Following the guidance of his superiors.Site Engineer: He must know the scope of work, study of drawings with combination of architectural and MEP drawings, Specification and conditions of contract, work order of individual Subcontractor, tracking up the material wastage, Quality and Quantity of work, Daily Progress report, Preparation of subcontractor bills, forecasting the risks, Concrete Pore card Report, Rectification of Non certified works, Daily Work Approvals from consultants and clients, Guidance to supervisors. Finally Site Engineer is liable to answer for outcome of a structure.Few mistakes which I have observed during my experienceBefore execution go through all the drawings, so that we wont miss any development reinforcement to structure. we can avoid dismantling .study the work order of subcontractor, we will understand what material, machinery and resources to be provided to them. Some times without knowing any thing about his workorder we provides the material and that not going to come back, and not even deducted in his bill.

What is your review of Accenture (company)?

To answer the question in detail. I worked in Accenture for 6.6 years. I started my career as a fresher. Experience of an individual depends on many factors. The work environment he/she is subjected to.The team he/she works with. How the subordinates, seniors are.The most important is the project and work the employee is subjected to.Accenture being a service based industry, it has its own pros and cons.ProsIf you join as a new joiner, it is high possibility, you are trained to work on specific technology, as per the needs of the projects. For new joiners, Accenture has an approximate 2.5 months of Greenfield training. Earlier it used to be a good base for new joiners. Not sure how it works now. But it definitely needs to be upgraded. The working culture is much better than other service based industries in India. (That’s my experience overall)The leave policies (medical, vacation, for mothers as well) is pretty good. You would not be sitting ideal for too long for sure, so if you like being occupied, given work, this is a good place.During appraisal, you generally get a decent hike (not for people finishing in lowest grade!)There are people here staying for long tenures of their careers 7–10–12 years. If you are in a comfort zone, you will stay as long as there is a strong reason to switch over.If you are in a good project, the learning will always be there. It also depends on the attitude of the employee.ConsBeing a service industry, the working hours are sometimes very tedious. 9 hrs of work and add to that the travel time. The bell-curve has been removed officially. But internally it still exists (Thats what i feel, because otherwise there is no way to rate a person’s performance. Comparison between employees is the only way to rate a person higher or lower based on their performances.) This makes it inevitable for an employee to have a good rapport with your seniors.Being a service industry, if you are hard core developer, you will not always land up in a proper development role (from scratch). It depends on your luck! At times you might be in support, maintenance projects as well.In case you want to switch streams or roles, for e.g, switch from being a developer to a tester or from Java to SAP, it might be difficult. It is subject to internal dynamics of the organization. If you are in this place for a long time, it may be possible, your financial growth would be stagnant. That depends on how the employee perceives it.

What are a Walmart department manager's responsibilities?

Basically Crystal Linn summed up what you do.  Basically a Dept Mgr is an hourly with an additional title and additional responsiblities. For example a regular Sales Floor Associate does the following.1. Stock merchandise.2. Provide Customer Service.3. Make Sure the department he/she is in is clean and shoppable.4. Depending on area perform specific tasks (Cut Fabric, Run a Cash Register, hold keys to items in locked cases, mix paint)A Department Manager will do all of the above and in addition also1. Do Price Changes2. Set Modulars(A blueprint on how each section is set up and where all the merchandise goes)3. Change On-Hands(So you can get merchandise in when it says you have more than you do and stop getting merchandise when you have too much)4. Work in the backroom binning freight5. Plan and set features(Ordering say a lot of dog food and putting it on an endcap. It starts with finding a good seller, ordering it, getting it in, putting it an specific location where it's visable, and finally pricing it)6. Working reports such as out-of-stock, non-basic(Old merchandise in back room)7. Supervise the employees you have under you.A good department manager basically knows the area very well and should be the best expert for the area. My department is Stationary in my store and thus I should know about all the pens/office supplies/calculators etc better than anyone else in the entire store.  They must also know how all the systems such as how to take markdowns on merchandise, how to set the modulars, how to fix issues such as items not coming in the store at the rate needed. They are one rung up the ladder from your regular floor associates. Good Department managers are willing and able to do the tasks given to the floor associates as they must pick up the slack if the floor associate isn't up to par with doing the tasks or if there are so many it can't be done with one or two people.Regular Associate < Dept Mgr < ZMS < Asst. Mgr < Co-Mgr(or Shift Mgr) < Store Mgr.

Is it allowed for Wendy's to discriminate against transgendered people?

The answer here is in two parts. With regards to the law, it depends what state your friend lives in on whether or not the supervisor's description of policy is a legal policy (There is currently no federal non-discrimination law that specifically covers transgender employment). With regards to Wendy's HR Department's policy though, the supervisor may or may not be stating the policy correctly (more on that below).

Per the HRC:

"In 33 states, it is legal to fire someone based on their sexual orientation. In 42 states, it is legal to do so based on gender identity. (State courts, commissions or agencies have interpreted the existing state law to include some protection against transgender individuals in Connecticut, Florida, Hawaii, Massachusetts, New Jersey and New York.)"

The possible good news for your friend is that Wendy's apparently has it's own non-discrimination policy protecting transgender employees -- the supervisor's understanding of the policy could be flawed. (The New York State Comptroller issued a press release in 2006 on Wendy's changing their non-discrimination policy to include sexual orientation and gender identity -- linked to in Soure area below.)

In a letter from Leon M. McCorkle, Wendy's Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary to the New York State Comptroller in May of 2006, he stated that Wendy's would amend its equal employment opportunity policy and revise its anti-harassment policy "to specifically provide that discrimination and harassment on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity is prohibited . . . We also will agree to revise and update, as necessary, our training programs to ensure those programs adequately inform our employees and management that our revised policies specifically prohibit discrimination and harassment on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity."

My guess is that the manager doesn't know his company's HR policy on transgender employees -- your friend may want to contact the Wendy's HR department to clarify the rules on gender identity and expression non-discrimination policies.

An organization your friend might want to call about assistance on this also is the Transgender Law Center at (415) 865-0176 . Folk at the National Center for Transgender Equality may be helpful in this area also.
