Supporting An Engine With A Jack Issue

(changing motor mount)...What part of engine could I hold up jack with?

If a broken or cracked mount is found, chances are the others have been overstressed and are on their way out as well.

Secure the engine on a jack with various blocks of wood under the harmonic balancer. Never jack an engine directly by the oil pan. The pan will bend and rupture.

Can I support an engine properly by using jackstands and wood?

What kind of car? If it's anything like my honda acord then the engine won't be supported just by the jack. It will likely also be supported by at least 2 other engine mounts, plus the intermediate shaft on one side of the transmission. So although you can set it up with jackstands and wood, probably using a wooden pad underneath the oilpan and a reliable floor jack is fine as long as the other engine mounts are still attached (you will likely only remove the front mount for this job).

Anyways, to get to the timing chain you will very likely not need to get under the engine and can be well to the side of it. If you want a preview of what will happen if the support fails, then set it up with a jack, then let the jack down a little and see that the engine is just going to hang there, not fall. Then let it all the way down. I think you'll find that there is no danger of the engine dropping.

Is that ok if I jack up the engine by putting the jack under the oil pan?

sure you can Alex ! i did it several times ! all you have to do is get a big piece of flat board and lay it on your jack and let the board rest on the bottom of the oil pan ! but jack it up slowly and watch the oil pan ! if it starts to bend a little then stop !

Do you support Apple removing the headphone jack from the iPhone 7?

Yes, because based on the cons you have, I have counter arguments:You don’t have to use the AirPods. Who said you had to use AirPods? There are tons of bluetooth headphones and earbuds out there that stay put better than wired earphones. A lot of people also already have headphones that have active noise cancelling and those need to be charged or require batteries. And we already have tons of devices that need to be charged, what’s one more?Wired technology is also not always reliable. Just count how many times you had to replace wired earphones because the wires frayed or shorted. Now count how much less often people replace wireless earphones/headphones because they failed. I recognize though that the issue might be dropouts. Well, if the phone and the bluetooth headset are no more farther than the usual cable length of your usual earphones, then there would be no dropouts. The wired earphones/headphones you use with your phone are probably not even that good. Very few people would go about their daily commute wearing Grados or Ultimate Ears. Even fewer people would use the iPhone for a dedicated listening session using just the stock phono jack.Apple is including a Lightning to 3.5mm adapter just for that purpose, in case your favorite brand of earphones don’t have wireless options. Definitely, a lot of third party manufacturers would cash in on this issue and you can get the adapter for cheaper. In short, you still can use your favorite pair of earphones.

What are some tips for replacing the timing belt in a 2001 Honda Civic?

What are some tips for replacing the timing belt in a 2001 Honda Civic? To start, if you haven't replaced a timing belt before I wouldn't start with this one without someone knowledgeable and experienced to guide you along. If you must, then I advise as follows:1) If you have any oil leaks, fix them while you're in there. Hell, even if you don't, reseal everything. These engines have a nasty habit of swelling the timing cover seals and making the belt jump time.2) If you have ABS, I'm sorry. These were not the most fun timing belts to do and the ABS modulator being right in the way made it worse.3) Remove the alternator instead of removing the main power line. These have a tendency to break at the alternator main wire. Remove the alternator and swing it up and out of the way with the harness connected.4) You have to remove the side mount bracket so take care in supporting the engine. A block of wood on a jack does well.5) Do not loosen the tensioner bolt. Use a 6mm Allen key when removing and installing the belt. If it is too tight going back on, make sure you have little to no slack from between the crank and cam gears. You can turn the cam a little to help take up this slack and the new belt will just barely slide on.6) Before going back together, triple check your timing marks after turning the engine over by hand a few times.Good luck, and I hope all turns out well.P.s. a little silicone sealant in the corners of the head cover gasket will save you a lot of trouble.

Is it dangerous to do a car repair with a scissor jack?

Relying on a scissor jack to work under the car is an extremely bad idea.Ideally, you want to jack the car up, remove the wheel & then drop the car down onto something solid, ideally an axle stand or two.  (They're designed for the job!)Make sure the ground you're supporting the car on is level and solid too, gravel/soil is another bad idea.Scissor jacks are for replacing a wheel in an emergency.   It is very easy to dislodge one if you're working on a car & a tyre, unless very wide would still allow the car to drop some distance.  You don't want a wheel arch dropped onto your back whilst you're crouched under it, let alone a car dropped onto your face!   (Is the compressed tyre thicker than your head?  Thought not!).Axle stands (Jack stands) aren't expensive.   Everyone advises against piles of bricks or cinder blocks, as they can (& do) crack & collapse, but even these would be better than just a scissor jack & a tyre.Good luck, I admire your determination!

Tech Support: How do I fix a loose headphone jack-laptop connection?

I can’t find a clear picture of the motherboard, so I can’t speak to the quality of the part on that model. I can take apart a number of other model HPs I’ve got here. I can say this.If you are handy with a soldering iron, you can replace the actual 3.5mm jack on the motherboard. If not, you can replace the motherboard, or stop using the jack.Is it *possible* to take a thin sliver of plastic, and possibly make a shim you can use to hold the headphone plug in place? Sure. The right piece of plastic, shaved down thin enough with a razor blade… maybe that is all it would take to insert along with the headphone plug to hold it in place and provide a good contact. However…. that’s not a fix I would recommend. You’d spend more time on the floor looking for the shim than listening with the headphones. You could purchase a small USB sound card and use that instead. But… it is either the soldering iron, or replacing the board the jack is connected to… if you want to continue to dependably use the connection in the laptop for your headphones. If you don’t care as much about that… look at the USB option. They don’t have to be large.Amazon.com: Sabrent USB External Stereo Sound Adapter for Windows and Mac. Plug and play No drivers Needed. Why won't my car start after fixing a broken serpentine belt?

Ok so first question is the starter rotating the motor like it should and it just wont start or are you turning the key without getting any results. If its not turning over id first off hit the starter solenoid with a soft hammer a few good raps may dislodge a stuck solenoid. Now if the motor is spinning but not firing up my first place id look is the distributor wiring unless it runs coil packs then i would guess that you knocked the wires off the crank sensor or maybe even broke the crank sensor. I am at a disability here not knowing what the vehicle make is., if it died while driving because belt fell off and you ran on battery till it ran out of power. ( a jump start is the ticket in that case ) Honestly im going with the crank sensor or crankshaft position sensor.being the root of your problem because if the belt broke it could easily take out the sensor as belt flew around the front of the motor. But check all your connections and research the crank sensor ..its usually a cheap and easy part to replace if its in a area where belt passes by it that makes sense as to your problem. Ok let me know a bit more info if possible. Dont give up the answer will come

Changing motor mounts on 79 camaro z28?

this is pretty simple you need to support the engine using the crankshaft pulley. get the car up on jack stands ( do not use chunks of wood or cinder bricks for jack stands ok? Use real jack stands then loosen the transmission cross member and the motor mounts after supporting the crankshaft under the front crankshaft pulley with a bottle jack or a hydralic jack. use a piece of wood to keep from damaging the pulley. loosen the moror mounts enough to get them out bolt on the new one and drip it back down on the new motor mounts and you are done. Be careful not to jack it up so high the fan hits the radiator.
